We Cannot Hope To Die Peacefully If Our Lives Have Been Full Of Violence, Or If Our Minds Have Mostly Been Agitated By Emotions Like Anger, Attachment, Or Fear. So If We Wish To Die Well, We Must Learn How To Live Well: Hoping For A Peaceful Death, We Must Cultivate Peace In Our Mind, And In Our Way Of Life.

Meet Hostility And Suspicion With Kindness. Helping Others Out Of Love Is Always The Best Option.

Taking Care Of Our Planet Is Like Taking Care Of Our Houses. Since We Human Beings Come From Nature, There Is No Point In Our Going Against Nature, Which Is Why I Say The Environment Is Not A Matter Of Religion Or Ethics Or Morality. These Are Luxuries, Since We Can Survive Without Them. But We Will Not Survive If We Continue To Go Against Nature.

The Key To Human Happiness Lies Within Our Own State Of Mind, And So Too Do The Primary Obstacles To That Happiness.

The Many Factors Which Divide Us Are Actually Much More Superficial Than Those We Share. Despite All Of The Things That Differentiate Us - Race, Language, Religion, Gender, Wealth And So On - We Are All Equal Concerning Our Fundamental Humanity.

The Real Troublemakers Are Anger, Jealousy, Impatience, And Hatred. With Them, Problems Cannot Be Solved. Though We May Have Temporary Success, Ultimately Our Hatred Or Anger Will Create Futher Difficulties. Anger Makes For Swift Solutions. Yet, When We Face Problems With Compassion, Sincerity, And Good Motivation, Our Solutions May Take Longer, But Ultimately They Are Better.

In Olden Times When There Was A War, It Was A Human-to-human Confrontation. The Victor In Battle Would Directly See The Blood And Suffering Of The Defeated Enemy. Nowadays, It Is Much More Terrifying Because A Person In An Office Can Push A Button And Kill Millions Of People And Never See The Human Tragedy That He Or She Has Created. The Mechanization Of War, The Mechanization Of Human Conflict, Poses An Increasing Threat To Peace.

If Science Proves Some Belief Of Buddhism Wrong, Then Buddhism Will Have To Change. In My View, Science And Buddhism Share A Search For The Truth And For Understanding Reality. By Learning From Science About Aspects Of Reality Where Its Understanding May Be More Advanced, I Believe That Buddhism Enriches Its Own Worldview.

Easy Times Are The Enemy, They Put Us To Sleep. Adversity Is Our Friend, It Wakes Us Up

In Order To Be Happy We Must First Possess Inner Contentment; And Inner Contentment Doesn't Come From Having All We Want; But Rather From Wanting And Appreciating Being Grateful For All We Have.

The Way To Develop Inner Peace Through Meditation Begins With The Recognition That The Destroyer Of Inner Peace Is Not Some External Foe, But Is Within Us. Therefore, The Solution Is Within Us Too. However, That Inner Change Does Not Take Place Immediately In The Way That We Switch On A Light, But Takes Weeks, Months And Years.

In Spiritual Growth, It Is Important To Avoid Imbalances Between Academic Or Intellectual Learning And Practical Implementation. Otherwise There Is A Danger That Too Much Intellectualiza Tion Will Kill The More Contemplative Practices And Too Much Emphasis On Practical Implementation Without Study Will Kill The Understanding. There Has Got To Be A Balance.

Once A Positive Goal Is Chosen, You Should Decide To Pursue It All The Way To The End. Even If It Is Not Realized, At Least There Will Be No Regret.

Remember That The Best Relationship Is One In Which Your Love For Each Other Exceeds Your Need For Each Other.

We Need An Approach To Ethics Which Makes No Recourse To Religion And Can Be Equally Acceptable To Those With Faith And Those Without.

We Can't Be Useful To Ourselves Unless We're Useful To Others .... Anyone Concerned Only By His Own Well-being Will Suffer Eventually. Anyone Concerned With The Well-being Of Others Takes Care Of Himself Without Even Thinking About It. Even If We Decide To Remain Selfish. Let Us Be Intelligently Selfish - Let Us Help Others.

Samsara - Our Conditioned Existence In The Perpetual Cycle Of Habitual Tendencies And Nirvana - Genuine Freedom From Such An Existence- Are Nothing But Different Manifestations Of A Basic Continuum. So This Continuity Of Consciousness Us Always Present. This Is The Meaning Of Tantra.

Because We All Share An Identical Need For Love, It Is Possible To Feel That Anybody We Meet, In Whatever Circumstances, Is A Brother Or Sister.

The Most Important Thing Is Practice In Daily Life; Then You Can Know Gradually The True Value Of Religion. Doctrine Is Not Meant For Mere Knowledge, But For The Improvement Of Our Minds. In Order To Do That, It Must Be Part Of Our Life. If You Put Religious Doctrine In A Building And When You Leave The Building Depart From The Practices, You Cannot Gain Its Value.

Material Progress And A Higher Standard Of Living Bring Us Greater Comfort And Health, But Do Not Lead To A Transformation Of The Mind, Which Is The Only Thing Capable Of Providing Lasting Peace. Profound Happiness, Unlike Fleeting Pleasures, Is Spiritual In Nature. It Depends On The Happiness Of Others And It Is Based On Love And Affection.

World Peace Begins With Inner Peace.

If It Can Be Solved, There's No Need To Worry, And If It Can't Be Solved, Worry Is Of No Use.

If A Harmonious Relationship Is Established Amongst Societies And Religious Beliefs In Today's Multi-ethnic, Multi-religious And Multi-cultural World, Then It Will Surely Set A Very Good Example For Others.

You Can Develop The Right Attitude Toward Others If You Have Kindness, Love And Respect For Them, And A Clear Realization Of The Oneness Of All Human Beings.

I Will Not Propose To You That My Way Is Best. The Decision Is Up To You. If You Find Some Point Which May Be Suitable To You, Then You Can Carry Out Experiments For Yourself. If You Find That It Is Of No Use, Then You Can Discard It.

Many People Today Agree That We Need To Reduce Violence In Our Society. If We Are Truly Serious About This, We Must Deal With The Roots Of Violence, Particularly Those That Exist Within Each Of Us. We Need To Embrace 'inner Disarmament,' Reducing Our Own Emotions Of Suspicion, Hatred And Hostility Toward Our Brothers And Sisters

We Need To Find Secular Ways To Cultivate Warm-heartedness. We Need Secular Ways To Educate Ourselves About Inner Values. The Source Of A Happy Life Is Within Us. Trouble Makers In Many Parts Of The World Are Often Quite Well Educated, So It Is Not Just Education That We Need. We Need To Pay Attention To Inner Values.

Everybody Loves To Talk About Calmness And Peace, Whether In A Family, National, Or International Context, But Without Inner Peace How Can We Make Real Peace? World Peace Through Hatred And Force Is Impossible.

So, The Tendency Of Our Childish Nature Is To Take Small Things Too Seriously And Get Easily Offended, Whereas When We Are Confronted With Situations Which Have Long-term Consequences, We Tend To Take Things Less Seriously

It Is Under The Greatest Adversity That There Exists The Greatest Potential For Doing Good, Both For Oneself And Others.

Treat Each Person As You Would An Old Friend.

We Human Beings Are Social Beings. We Come Into The World As The Result Of Others’ Actions. We Survive Here In Dependence On Others. Whether We Like It Or Not, There Is Hardly A Moment Of Our Lives When We Do Not Benefit From Others’ Activities. For This Reason, It Is Hardly Surprising That Most Of Our Happiness Arises In The Context Of Our Relationships With Others.

All Forms Of Violence, Especially War, Are Totally Unacceptable As Means To Settle Disputes Between And Among Nations, Groups And Persons.

There Can Be No Peace As Long As There Is Grinding Poverty, Social Injustice, Inequality, Oppression, Environmental Degradation, And As Long As The Weak And Small Continue To Be Trodden By The Mighty And Powerful.

Living A Meaningful Life Isn't Just A Matter Of Money; It's About Dedicating Your Life To Helping Others.

Then Another Thing, Now This Is Mainly For Our Interest About Tibet, Our Struggle. Whole Struggle Depend On Within Person. For Dangerous. Foolish! Not For This Only Institution Or Even Not Only For Buddhist Dogma, But Before National Sort Of Right, Our Right. So Therefore This Struggle Must Carried By People Themselves.

The Female Biologically [has] More Potential To Show Affection And Compassion.

Appreciate How Rare And Full Of Potential Your Situation Is In This World, Then Take Joy In It, And Use It To Your Best Advantage.

Looking At Various Means Of Developing Compassion, I Think Empathy Is An Important Factor: The Ability To Appreciate Others' Suffering.

Meditation May Also Be Thought Of As A Technique By Which We Diminish The Force Of Old Thought Habits And Develop New Ones.

Through Constant Familiarity, We Can Definitely Establish New Behavior Patterns, Using Our Tendency To Form Habits To Our Advantage. If We Make A Steady Effort, I Think We Can Overcome Any Form Of Negative Conditioning And Make Positive Changes In Our Lives. But We Need To Remember That Genuine Change Doesn't Happen Overnight.

Brute Force, No Matter How Strongly Applied, Can Never Subdue The Basic Human Desire For Freedom.

We Should Reflect On The Idea That Since The Beginning Of Time Sentient Beings Have Been Mentally Unstable Because They Have Been Slaves Of Delusion, They Lack The Eye Of Wisdom To See The Path Leading To Nirvana And Enlightenment, And They Lack The Necessary Guidance Of A Spiritual Teacher. Moment By Moment They Are Indulging In Negative Actions, Which Will Eventually Bring About Their Downfall.

To Foster Inner Awareness, Introspection, And Reasoning Is More Efficient Than Meditation And Prayer.

I Always Emphasize That It Is Much Safer And Better To Keep One's Own Religious Faith. The Other Major Religions Are Thousands Of Years Old And Have Long Traditions.

True Compassion Is Not Just An Emotional Response But A Firm Commitment Founded On Reason.

A New Way Of Thinking Has Become The Necessary Condition For Responsible Living And Acting. If We Maintain Obsolete Values And Beliefs, A Fragmented Consciousness And Self-centered Spirit, We Will Continue To Hold Onto Outdated Goals And Behaviors.

I Try To Treat Whoever I Meet As An Old Friend [with Dignity, With Honor].

Not Only Is Your Own Happiness And Welfare Related To Others, But The More You Help Them, The Happier You Will Be.

You Must Not Hate Those Who Do Wrong Or Harmful Things; But With Compassion, You Must Do What You Can To Stop Them — For They Are Harming Themselves, As Well As Those Who Suffer From Their Actions.

Compassion, Tolerance, Forgiveness And A Sense Of Self-discipline Are Qualities That Help Us Lead Our Daily Lives With A Calm Mind

Peace Starts Within Each One Of Us. When We Have Inner Peace, We Can Be At Peace With Those Around Us.

Happiness That Depends Mainly On Physical Pleasure Is Unstable; One Day It's There, The Next Day It May Not Be.

On Love, Not Harming Others, And Respecting All Beings. Even Animals Have These Elements In Their Behavioral Patterns. We Should Start By Observing How Animals Act. They Are Honest And Appreciate It When We Are Honest With Them. If You Present Something Nice To An Animal In One Hand While Hiding A Rope In The Other, The Creature Will Know Your Intention. Yet Animals Have No Religion, No Constitution. Basic Nature Has Endowed Them With The Faculty Of Discernment. It Is The Same For Humans.

Every Man Has The Basis Of Good. Not Only Human Beings, You Can Find It Among Animals And Insects, For Instance, When We Treat A Dog Or Horse Lovingly.

Physical Comforts Cannot Subdue Mental Suffering, And If We Look Closely, We Can See That Those Who Have Many Possessions Are Not Necessarily Happy. In Fact, Being Wealthy Often Brings Even More Anxiety.

A Spoon Cannot Taste Of The Food It Carries. Likewise, A Foolish Man Cannot Understand The Wise Man´s Wisdom Even If He Associates With A Sage.

This We Can All Bear Witness To, Living As We Do Plagued By Unremitting Anxiety . It Becomes More And More Imperative That The Life Of The Spirit Be Avowed As The Only Firm Basis Upon Which To Establish Happiness And Peace.

Do Not Let The Behavior Of Others Destroy Your Inner Peace.

Peace Isn't The Mere Absence Of Violence; Peace Must Come From Inner Peace. And Inner Peace Comes From Taking Others’ Interests Into Account.

It Is Not Enough To Be Compassionate. You Must Act. There Are Two Aspects To Action. One Is To Overcome The Distortions And Afflictions Of Your Own Mind, That Is, In Terms Of Calming And Eventually Dispelling Anger. This Is Action Out Of Compassion. The Other Is More Social, More Public. When Something Needs To Be Done In The World To Rectify The Wrongs, If One Is Really Concerned With Benefitting Others, One Needs To Be Engaged, Involved.

I Am Confident I Will Set Foot Again In Tibet In My Lifetime.

According To My Own Experience, The Highest Level Of Inner Calm Comes From The Development Of Love And Compassion. The More Concerned We Are With The Happiness Of Others, The More We Increase Our Own Well-being. Friendliness And Warmth Towards Others Allow Us To Relax And Help Us To Dispel Any Sense Of Fear Or Insecurity So We Can Overcome Whatever Obstacles We Face.

We Know That To Wage A Nuclear War Today, For Example, Would Be A Form Of Suicide; Or That To Pollute The Air Or The Oceans In Order To Achieve Some Short-term Benefit Would Be To Destroy The Very Basis For Our Survival.

An Ethical Act Is One Which Does Not Harm Others' Experience Or Expectation Of Happiness.

If You're Looking For Work And Have A Choice Of A Job, Choose A Job That Allows The Opportunity For Some Creativity, And For Spending Time With Your Family. Even If It Means Less Pay.

By Far The Single Greatest Danger Facing Humankind - In Fact, All Living Beings On Our Planet - Is The Threat Of Nuclear Destruction.

The Essence Of Compassion Is A Desire To Alleviate The Suffering Of Others And To Promote Their Well-being

Compassion Seems To Be The Greatest Power.

Just As Compassion Is The Wish That All Sentient Beings Be Free Of Suffering, Loving-kindness Is The Wish That All May Enjoy Happiness.

My Own View, Which Does Not Rely Solely On Religious Faith Or Even On An Original Idea, But Rather On Ordinary Common Sense, Is That Establishing Binding Ethical Principles Is Possible When We Take As Our Starting Point The Observation That We All Desire Happiness And Wish To Avoid Suffering.

We Can Never Obtain Peace In The Outer World Until We Make Peace With Ourselves.

What Is The Purpose Of Life? I Believe That The Purpose Of Life Is To Be Happy.

My Message Is Always The Same: To Cultivate And Practice Love, Kindness, Compassion And Tolerance.

The Purpose Of Our Lives Is To Be Happy. We Live In Hope, Which Means Looking Forward To Something Good. And There Are Increasing Scientific Findings That Both Our Physical And Mental Well-being Depend On Our Peace Of Mind.

Anger Cannot Be Overcome By Anger. If Someone Is Angry With You, And You Show Anger In Return, The Result Is A Disaster. On The Other Hand, If You Control Your Anger And Show Its Opposite - Love, Compassion, Tolerance And Patience - Not Only Will You Remain Peaceful, But The Other Person's Anger Will Also Diminish.

A Female Dalai Lama Must Be Very Attractive, Otherwise Not Much Use.

I Feel That A Genuine, Affectionate Smile Is Very Important In Our Day-to-day Lives. How One Creates That Smile Largely Depends On One's Own Attitude. It Is Illogical To Expect Smiles From Others If One Does Not Smile Oneself. Therefore, One Can See That Many Things Depend On One's Own Behaviour.

When Something Needs To Be Done In The World To Rectify The Wrongs, If One Is Really Concerned With Benefiting Others, One Needs To Be Engaged, Involved. This Is Action Out Of Compassion.

My Responsibility Is To Save Tibet, To Protect Its Ancient Cultural Heritage.

When I Meet People From Other Cultures I Know That They Too Want Happiness And Do Not Want Suffering, This Allows Me To See Them As Brothers And Sisters.

If We Can Manage To Refrain From Harming Others In Our Everyday Actions And Words, We Can Start To Give More Serious Attention To Actively Doing Good, And This Can Be A Source Of Great Joy And Inner Confidence. We Can Benefit Others Through Our Actions By Being Warm And Generous Toward Them, By Being Charitable, And By Helping Those In Need.

If You Have Fear Of Some Pain Or Suffering, You Should Examine Whether There Is Anything You Can Do About It. If You Can, There Is No Need To Worry About It; If You Cannot Do Anything, Then There Is Also No Need To Worry.

Spirit Is A Land Of High White Peaks And Glittering Jewel-like Lakes And Flowers. Life Is Sparse And Sounds Travel Great Distances.

Compassion Is One Of The Principal Things That Make Our Lives Meaningful. It Is The Source Of All Lasting Happiness And Joy.

The Affection Is Mainly Biological Factor. Then Further Sort Of Strengthening, That Religion Helps.

Delusions Are States Of Mind Which, When They Arise Within Our Mental Continuum, Leave Us Disturbed, Confused And Unhappy. Therefore, Those States Of Mind Which Delude Or Afflict Us Are Called 'delusions.'

From The Viewpoint Of Absolute Truth, What We Feel And Experience In Our Ordinary Daily Life Is All Delusion. Basically, The Buddhist Attitude Is That You Should Not Accept Certain Things Through Sheer Faith. And For That You Need A Skeptical Attitude. Buddha Himself Made This Clear To His Followers. He Said You Should Not Accept Those Things I Taught Out Of Respect For Me, But Rather Through Investigation By Yourself.

We Humans Have Existed In Our Present Form For About A Hundred Thousand Years. I Believe That If During This Time The Human Mind Had Been Primarily Controlled By Anger And Hatred, Our Overall Population Would Have Decreased. But Today, Despite All Our Wars, We Find That The Human Population Is Greater Than Ever. This Clearly Indicates To Me That Love And Compassion Predominate In The World. And This Is Why Unpleasant Events Are "news"; Compassionate Activities Are So Much A Part Of Daily Life That They Are Taken For Granted And , Therefore, Largely Ignored.

Scientists Are Coming To Recognise The Effects Of The Mind On Physical Health. The Sense Of Relaxation Associated With Inner Peace Involves Not Only Being Physically At Ease. If You Are Nagged By Worry Or Seething With Anger, You’re Not Really Relaxed. The Key To Relaxation Is Peace Of Mind. The Relaxation Gained From Alcohol, Drugs Or Just Listening To Music May Seem Attractive, But It Doesn’t Last.

In Order To Meditate Correctly, You Must Have Knowledge.
