If The Mind Is Tranquil And Occupied With Positive Thoughts, The Body Will Not Easily Fall Prey To Disease

To My Mind, There Are Two Things That, In Life, You Can Do About Death. Either You Can Choose To Ignore It, In Which Case You May Have Some Success In Making The Idea Of It Go Away For A Limited Period Of Time, Or You Can Confront The Prospect Of Your Own Death And Try To Analyze It And, In So Doing, Try To Minimize Some Of The Inevitable Suffering That It Causes. Neither Way Can You Actually Overcome It.

In Some Cases, Lack Of Full Knowledge Or Holistic View, That Is Also Part Of The Problem. But Mainly Lack Of Moral Principle. So Long You Have This Genuine Sort Of Concern, Well Being Of Other. That's The Foundation Of Moral Principle.

The More Contact We Have With One Another And The More We Come To Understand Each Other's Values, The Greater Will Be Our Mutual Respect.

Love And Compassion Are Necessities, Not Luxuries. Without Them Humanity Cannot Survive.

Death Is A Part Of All Our Lives. Whether We Like It Or Not, It Is Bound To Happen. Instead Of Avoiding Thinking About It, It Is Better To Understand Its Meaning. We All Have The Same Body, The Same Human Flesh, And Therefore We Will All Die. There Is A Big Difference, Of Course, Between Natural Death And Accidental Death, But Basically Death Will Come Sooner Or Later. If From The Beginning Your Attitude Is 'yes, Death Is Part Of Our Lives,' Then It May Be Easier To Face.

In Our Concern For Others, We Worry Less About Ourselves. When We Worry Less About Ourselves An Experience Of Our Own Suffering Is Less Intense. What Does This Tell Us? Firstly, Because Our Every Action Has A Universal Dimension, A Potential Impact On Others' Happiness, Ethics Are Necessary As A Means To Ensure That We Do Not Harm Others. Secondly, It Tells Us That Genuine Happiness Consists In Those Spiritual Qualities Of Love, Compassion, Patience, Tolerance And Forgiveness And So On. For It Is These Which Provide Both For Our Happiness And Others' Happiness.

The Most Important Benefit Of Patience Consists In The Way It Acts As A Powerful Antidote To The Affliction Of Anger - The Greatest Threat To Our Inner Peace, And Therefore Our Happiness. The Mind, Or Spirit, Is Not Physical, It Cannot Be Touched Or Harmed Directly. Only Negative Thoughts And Emotions Can Harm It. Therefore, Only The Corresponding Positive Quality Can Protect It.

The Basic Condition Of Human Life Is Happiness.

A Spoon Cannot Taste Of The Food It Carries. Likewise, A Foolish Man Cannot Understand The Wise Man´s Wisdom Even If He Associates With A Sage.

I Have Three Commitments. Number One Commitment Is Promotion Of Human Value. Number Two Commitment Is Promotion Of Race Harmony. Number Three Commitment Is About Tibet. My Retirement Is The Third Commitment. The Previous Two Commitments, To My Death, I Have Committed.

True Enlightenment Is Nothing But The Nature Of One's Own Self Being Fully Realized.

The Affection Is Mainly Biological Factor. Then Further Sort Of Strengthening, That Religion Helps.

The Best Way Of Fulfilling Your Own Interest Is To Take Care Of Others.

I Am Basically Optimistic.

I'm Sure All Of Us Agree That We Need To Overcome Violence, But We First Need To Examine Whether It Has Any Value. From A Strictly Practical Perspective, On Certain Occasions Violence Appears To Be Useful. We Can Solve A Problem Quickly By Force. But This Success Is Often At The Expense Of The Rights And Welfare Of Others. Although One Problem Has Been Solved, The Seed Of Another Has Been Planted.

When You Practice Gratefulness, There Is A Sense Of Respect Toward Others.

Wealth Is Not Necessarily A Bad Thing When It Has Been Earned In An Honest Manner And Neither Other Individuals Nor The Environment Suffered For It.

The Ultimate Source Of Happiness Is Not Money And Power, But Warm-heartedness

Anger Cannot Be Overcome By Anger. If Someone Is Angry With You, And You Show Anger In Return, The Result Is A Disaster. On The Other Hand, If You Control Your Anger And Show Its Opposite - Love, Compassion, Tolerance And Patience - Not Only Will You Remain Peaceful, But The Other Person's Anger Will Also Diminish.

There Can Be No Peace As Long As There Is Grinding Poverty, Social Injustice, Inequality, Oppression, Environmental Degradation, And As Long As The Weak And Small Continue To Be Trodden By The Mighty And Powerful.

Violence Will Only Increase The Cycle Of Violence.

If We Want Spiritual Development, The Practice Of Patience Is Essential.

If One's Cause Is Supported By Sound Reasoning, There Is No Point In Using Violence. It Is Those Who Have No Motive Other Than Selfish Desire And Who Cannot Achieve Their Goal Through Logical Reasoning Who Rely On Force.

I Believe The Twenty-first Century Can Become The Most Important Century Of Human History. I Think A New Reality Is Emerging. Whether This View Is Realistic Or Not, There Is No Harm In Making An Effort.

Religion Is Important For Humanity, But It Should Evolve With Humanity. The First Priority Is To Establish And Develop The Principle Of Pluralism In All Religious Traditions. It Is Good That Most Religious Leaders Are At Least Beginning To Recognize Other Traditions, Even Though They May Not Approve Of Them. When You Talk You Are Only Repeating Something You Already Know. But, If You Listen You May Learn Something New.

The Human Life Is Ended And The Executed Person Is Deprived Of The Opportunity To Change, To Restore The Harm Done Or Compensate For It.

Firstly, As A Buddhist Monk, I Hold That Violence Is Not Good. Secondly, I Am A Firm Believer In The Gandian Ethic Of Passive Resistance. And Thirdly, In Reality, Violence Is Not Our Strength.

Co-operation Comes From Friendship, Friendship Comes From Trust, And Trust Comes From Kind-heartedness. Once You Have A Genuine Sense Of Concern For Others, There’s No Room For Cheating, Bullying Or Exploitation.

The Basic Buddhist Stand On The Question Of Equality Between The Genders Is Age-old. At The Highest Tantric Levels, At The Highest Esoteric Level, You Must Respect Women: Every Woman.

Where Ignorance Is Our Master, There Is No Possibility Of Real Peace.

When You Think Everything Is Someone Else's Fault, You Will Suffer A Lot.

It Is Not Enough Simply To Wish That Love And Compassion Should Increase In Us. The Right Way To Deal With Mental Unhappiness Must Be Within The Mind Too. On An Emotional Level, Anger, Fear And Worry Bring Unhappiness. Scientists Say They Eat Into Our Immune System. On The Other Hand, We Are Also Equipped With A Sense Of Affection And Compassionate Concern For The Well-being Of Others.

As Human Beings, We Are Only Able To Survive In Dependence Upon The Co-operation, Help And Kindness Of Other Fellow Humans.

We Can Make This A More Peaceful Century If We Cherish Non-violence And Concern For Others’ Well-being. It Is Possible. If The Individual Is Happier, His Or Her Family Is Happier; If Families Are Happy, Neighborhoods And Nations Will Be Happy. By Transforming Ourselves We Can Change Our Human Way Of Life And Make This A Century Of Compassion.

Although Attempting To Bring About World Peace Through The Internal Transformation Of Individuals Is Difficult, It Is The Only Way.

If We Had To Accept The Idea Of An Independent Creator, The Explanations Given In [several Buddhist Texts] Which Completely Refutes The Existence Per Se Of All Phenomena, Would Be Negated.

Know The Rules Well, So You Can Break Them Effectively.

Happiness Cannot Come From Hatred Or Anger. Nobody Can Say, 'today I Am Happy Because This Morning I Was Angry.' On The Contrary, People Feel Uneasy And Sad And Say, 'today I Am Not Very Happy, Because I Lost My Temper This Morning.'

It Is Important Not To Allow Ourselves To Be Put Off By The Magnitude Of Others' Suffering. The Misery Of Millions Is Not A Cause For Pity. Rather It Is A Cause For Compassion.

In Order To Become Prosperous, A Person Must Initially Work Very Hard, So He Or She Has To Sacrifice A Lot Of Leisure Time.

Although We Are All The Same In Not Wanting Problems And Wanting A Peaceful Life, We Tend To Create A Lot Of Problems For Ourselves. Encountering Those Problems, Anger Develops And Overwhelms Our Mind, Which Leads To Violence. A Good Way To Counter This And To Work For A More Peaceful World Is To Develop Concern For Others. Then Our Anger, Jealousy And Other Destructive Emotions Will Naturally Weaken And Diminish.

Under The Bright Sun, Many Of Us Are Gathered Together With Different Languages, Different Styles Of Dress, Even Different Faiths. However, All Of Us Are The Same In Being Humans, And We All Uniquely Have The Thought Of 'i' And We're All The Same In Wanting Happiness And In Wanting To Avoid Suffering.

China Can Keep Her Troops On The External Frontiers Of Tibet, And Tibetans Will Pledge To Accept The Appropriate Form Of Union With China.

Some Feel That You Lose Your Independence If You Don't Let Your Mind Just Wander Where It Wants To, If You Try To Control It. But That Is Not The Case. If Your Mind Is Proceeding In The Correct Way, One Already Has The Correct Opinion. But If Your Mind Is Proceeding In An Incorrect Way, Then It's Necessary, Definitely, To Exercise Control.

I Am Confident I Will Set Foot Again In Tibet In My Lifetime.

Taking Care Of Our Planet Is Like Taking Care Of Our Houses. Since We Human Beings Come From Nature, There Is No Point In Our Going Against Nature, Which Is Why I Say The Environment Is Not A Matter Of Religion Or Ethics Or Morality. These Are Luxuries, Since We Can Survive Without Them. But We Will Not Survive If We Continue To Go Against Nature.

Physically You Are A Human Being, But Mentally You Are Incomplete. Given That We Have This Physical Human Form, We Must Safeguard Our Mental Capacity For Judgment. For That, We Cannot Take Out Insurance; The Insurance Company Is Within: Self-discipline, Self-awareness, And A Clear Realization Of The Disadvantages Of Anger And The Positive Effects Of Kindness.

I Request You To Try To Be Warm-hearted. I Ask This Of You Because These Mental Attitudes Actually Bring Us Happiness.

Historically, The East Was More Concerned With Understanding The Mind And The West Was More Involved In Understanding Matter.

As Soon As I Wake Up I Pay Homage To The Buddha, And I Try To Prepare My Mind To Be More Altruistic, More Compassionate, During The Day To Come So I Can Be Of Benefit To Beings. Then I Do Physical Exersice - I Walk On A Treadmill.

Spend 5 Minutes At The Beginning Of Each Day Remembering We All Want The Same Things (to Be Happy And Be Loved) And We Are All Connected To One Another.

Physical Comforts Cannot Subdue Mental Suffering, And If We Look Closely, We Can See That Those Who Have Many Possessions Are Not Necessarily Happy. In Fact, Being Wealthy Often Brings Even More Anxiety.

When We Encounter Suffering, It Is Important To Respond W/ Compassion Rather Than To Question The Politics Of Those We Help.

Other Human Beings Have A Right To Peace And Happiness That Is Equal To Our Own; Therefore We Have A Responsibility To Help Those In Need.

A Thousand Candles Can Be Lit From One Candle, However The Life Of The Original Candle Is Not Shortened In The Least.

We Begin From The Recognition That All Beings Cherish Happiness And Do Not Want Suffering. It Then Becomes Both Morally Wrong And Pragmatically Unwise To Pursue Only One's Own Happiness Oblivious To The Feelings And Aspirations Of All Others Who Surround Us As Members Of The Same Human Family. The Wiser Course Is To Think Of Others When Pursuing Our Own Happiness.

The More You Think About Your Own Self, The More Self-centred You Are, The More Trouble Even Small Problems Can Create In Your Mind. The Stronger Your Sense Of 'i', The Narrower The Scope Of Your Thinking Becomes; Then Even Small Obstacles Become Unbearable. On The Other Hand, If You Concern Yourself Mainly With Others, The Broader Your Thinking Becomes, And Life's Inevitable Difficulties Disturb You Less.

The Way To Overcome Negative Thoughts And Destructive Emotions Is To Develop Opposing, Positive Emotions That Are Stronger And More Powerful.

Those Who Have Little Interest In Spirituality Shouldn’t Think That Human Inner Values Don’t Apply To You. The Inner Peace Of An Alert And Calm Mind Are The Source Of Real Happiness And Good Health. Our Human Intelligence Tells Us Which Of Our Emotions Are Positive And Helpful And Which Are Damaging And To Be Restrained Or Avoided.

The Very Purpose Of Religion Is To Control Yourself, Not To Criticise Others.

There Are Five Billion Human Beings And In A Certain Way I Think We Need Five Billion Different Religions.

Each Of You Should Feel That You Have Great Potential And That, With Self-confidence And A Little More Effort, Change Really Is Possible If You Want It. If You Feel That Your Present Way Of Life Is Unpleasant Or Has Some Difficulties, Then Don't Look At These Negative Things. See The Positive Side, The Potential, And Make An Effort.

When We Are Young And Again When We Are Old, We Depend Heavily On The Affection Of Others. Between These Stages We Usually Feel That We Can Do Everything Without Help From Others And That Other People's Affection Is Simply Not Important. But At This Stage I Think It Is Very Important To Keep Deep Human Affection.

Each Of Us Has The Potential To Contribute... You Have A Great Opportunity To Make A New Shape Of The World.

You Cant Help Someone Just By Making A Wish To Do So, You Have To Take Action.

It Is Vital That When Educating Our Children's Brains That We Do Not Neglect To Educate Their Hearts.

As Human Beings We Each Have A Responsibility To Care For Humanity. Expressing Concern For Others Brings Inner Strength And Deep Satisfaction. As Social Animals, Human Beings Need Friendship, But Friendship Doesn't Come From Wealth And Power, But From Showing Compassion And Concern For Others.

I Have Come To The Conclusion That Whether Or Not A Person Is A Religious Believer Does Not Matter. Far More Important Is That They Be A Good Human Being.

Fear, Hatred, And Suspicion Narrow Your Mind - Compassion Opens It.

Instead Of Wondering Why This Is Happening To You, Consider Why This Is Happening To You.

Nonviolence Is The Only Way. Even If You Achieve Your Goal By Violent Means There Are Always Side Effects, And These Can Be Worse Than The Problem. Violence Is Against Human Nature.

Sensory Experience Does Not Offset The Intense Pain Or Pleasure We Feel On A Mental Level; It May Distract Us, But Doesn't Overcome It. On The Other Hand, If We Have Peace Of Mind, Even Negative Experiences Do Not Upset Us. Peace Of Mind Is Also Good For Our Physical Health. Medical Experts Have Found That Anger, Hatred And Fear Eat Into Our Immune System. Being Calm And Relaxed Is Better For Our Physical Well-being.

I Consider Non-violence To Be Compassion In Action. It Doesn’t Mean Weakness, Cowering In Fear, Or Simply Doing Nothing. It Is To Act Without Violence, Motivated By Compassion, Recognising The Rights Of Others.

Although Violence And The Use Of Force May Appear Powerful And Decisive, Their Benefits Are Short-lived. Violence Can Never Bring A Lasting And Long Term Resolution To Any Problem, Because It Is Unpredictable And For Every Problem It Seems To Solve, Others Are Created. On The Other Hand, Truth Remains Constant And Will Ultimately Prevail.

The Real Destroyer Of Inner Peace Is Fear And Distrust. Fear Develops Frustration, Frustration Develops Anger, Anger Develops Violence.

My Main Interest Is In The Promotion Of Human Values. From Birth We Have A Sense Of Affection And Some Sense Of Concern For Others. We Need To Nurture It. Scientists Have Found That To Ensure Even Physical Health Peace Of Mind Is Essential. People Often Think That Love And Compassion Are Only Matters Of Religious Concern, But In Fact Such Values Are Necessary In All Human Relations

When We Are Angry We Are Blind To Reality. Anger May Bring Us A Temporary Burst Of Energy, But That Energy Is Blind And It Blocks The Part Of Our Brain That Distinguishes Right From Wrong. To Deal With Our Problems, We Need To Be Practical And Realistic. If We Are To Be Realistic, We Need To Use Our Human Intelligence Properly, Which Means We Need A Calm Mind.

Remember That Sometimes Not Getting What You Want Is A Wonderful Stroke Of Luck.

Generosity Is The Most Natural Outward Expression Of An Inner Attitude Of Compassion And Loving-kindness .

Just As You Have The Instinctive Natural Desire To Be Happy And Overcome Suffering, So Do All Sentient Beings; Just As You Have The Right To Fulfill This Innate Aspiration, So Do All Sentient Beings. So On What Exact Grounds Do You Discriminate?
