Each Of Us Has The Potential To Contribute... You Have A Great Opportunity To Make A New Shape Of The World.

Humans Are Not Machines-we Are Something More. We Have Feeling And Experience. Material Comforts Are Not Sufficient To Satisfy Us. We Need Something Deeper-human Affection.

When We Speak Of A Calm State Of Mind Or Peace Of Mind, We Shouldn't Confuse That With An Insensitive State Of Apathy. Having A Calm Or Peaceful State Of Mind Doesn't Mean Being Spaced Out Or Completely Empty. Peace Of Mind Or A Calm State Of Mind Is Rooted In Affection And Compassion And Is Sensitive And Responsive To Others.

Depression Seems To Be Related To Fear, Anger And Frustration. When You're In A Bad Mood, Even If You Meet With Your Friends, You Don't Take Pleasure In Their Company. But When You're In A Good Mood, Even If Things Go Wrong, You Can Cope With Them Without Difficulty. This Is Why Putting Yourself In A Good Mood, Making A Point Of Developing A Sense Of Loving Kindness Gives You Greater Inner Strength.

Old Friends Pass Away, New Friends Appear. It Is Just Like The Days. An Old Day Passes, A New Day Arrives. The Important Thing Is To Make It Meaningful: A Meaningful Friend - Or A Meaningful Day.

Brute Force, No Matter How Strongly Applied, Can Never Subdue The Basic Human Desire For Freedom.

We Had A Rule In Tibet That Anyone Proposing A New Invention Had To Guarentee That It Was Beneficial, Or At Least Harmless, For Seven Generations Of Humans Before It Could Be Adopted.

Consciousness Will Always Be Present, Though A Particular Consciousness May Cease. For Example, The Particular Tactile Consciousness That Is Present Within This Human Body Will Cease When The Body Comes To An End. Likewise, Consciousnesses That Are Influenced By Ignorance, By Anger Or By Attachment, These Too Will Cease. But The Basic, Ultimate, Innermost Subtle Consciousness Will Always Remain. It Has No Beginning, And It Will Have Not End.

Happiness Is A State Of Mind. With Physical Comforts If Your Mind Is Still In A State Of Confusion And Agitation, It Is Not Happiness. Happiness Means Calmness Of Mind.

A Sense Of Contentment Is Crucial To Being Happy. Physical Health, Material Wealth And Friends Contribute To This, But Contentment Governs Our Relations With Them All.

Where Ignorance Is Our Master, There Is No Possibility Of Real Peace.

If An Individual Has A Calm State Of Mind, That Person's Attitudes And Views Will Be Calm And Tranquil Even In The Presence Of Great Agitation.

This We Can All Bear Witness To, Living As We Do Plagued By Unremitting Anxiety . It Becomes More And More Imperative That The Life Of The Spirit Be Avowed As The Only Firm Basis Upon Which To Establish Happiness And Peace.

The Wiser Course Is To Think Of Others When Pursuing Our Own Happiness.

When We Are Motivated By Compassion And Wisdom, The Results Of Our Actions Benefit Everyone, Not Just Our Individual Selves.

Suffering Increases Your Inner Strength. Also, The Wishing For Suffering Makes The Suffering Disappear.

Although You Can Find Certain Differences Among The Buddhist Philosophical Schools About How The Universe Came Into Being, The Basic Common Question Addressed Is How The Two Fundamental Principles-external Matter And Internal Mind Or Consciousness-although Distinct, Affect One Another. External Causes And Conditions Are Responsible For Certain Of Our Experiences Of Happiness And Suffering. Yet We Find That It Is Principally Our Own Feelings, Our Thoughts And Our Emotions, That Really Determine Whether We Are Going To Suffer Or Be Happy.

From One Point Of View We Can Say That We Have Human Bodies And Are Practicing The Buddha's Teachings And Are Thus Much Better Than Insects. But We Can Also Say That Insects Are Innocent And Free From Guile, Where As We Often Lie And Misrepresent Ourselves In Devious Ways In Order To Achieve Our Ends Or Better Ourselves. From This Perspective, We Are Much Worse Than Insects.

Compassion Is Of Little Value If It Just Remains An Idea. It Must Motivate How We Respond To Others And Be Reflective In All Our Thoughts And Actions

The Realization That We Are All Basically The Same Human Beings Who Seek Happiness And Try To Avoid Suffering Is Very Helpful In Developing A Sense Of Brotherhood And Sisterhood; A Warm Feeling Of Love And Compassion For Others.

On Love, Not Harming Others, And Respecting All Beings. Even Animals Have These Elements In Their Behavioral Patterns. We Should Start By Observing How Animals Act. They Are Honest And Appreciate It When We Are Honest With Them. If You Present Something Nice To An Animal In One Hand While Hiding A Rope In The Other, The Creature Will Know Your Intention. Yet Animals Have No Religion, No Constitution. Basic Nature Has Endowed Them With The Faculty Of Discernment. It Is The Same For Humans.

Destructive Thoughts And Emotions Undermine The Very Causes Of Peace And Happiness. If You Think Clearly About It, It Makes No Sense To Think You’re Seeking Happiness, If You Do Nothing To Restrain Angry, Spiteful, And Malicious Thoughts And Emotions.

All Beings Want To Live In Peace And Happiness, Undisturbed. Therefore The Concept Of Human Rights Is Universal.

If We Have A Positive Mental Attitude, Then Even When Surrounded By Hostility, We Shall Not Lack Inner Peace.

Peace And The Survival Of Life On Earth As We Know It Are Threatened By Human Activities Which Lack A Commitment To Humanitarian Values. Destruction Of Nature And Nature's Resources Result From Ignorance, Greed And Lack Of Respect For The Earth's Living Things.

If The Situation Was Such That There Was Only One Learned Lama Or Genuine Practitioner Alive, A Person Whose Death Would Cause The Whole Of Tibet To Lose All Hope Of Keeping Its Buddhist Way Of Life, Then It Is Conceivable That In Order To Protect That One Person It Might Be Justified For One Or 10 Enemies To Be Eliminated If There Was No Other Way.

We Have Never Declared War On China. We Have Only Asked Them To Leave Us In Peace, To Let Us Have Our Natural Freedom.

It Is A Question Of Our Own Peace And Mental Stability.

Every Noble Work Is Bound To Face Problems And Obstacles. It Is Important To Check Your Goal And Motivation Thoroughly. One Should Be Very Truthful, Honest, And Reasonable. One's Actions Should Be Good For Others, And For Oneself As Well. Once A Positive Goal Is Chosen, You Should Decide To Pursue It All The Way To The End. Even If It Is Not Realized, At Least There Will Be No Regret.

All Religions Are Essentially The Same In Their Goal Of Developing A Good Human Heart So That We May Become Better Human Beings.

When You Realize You've Made A Mistake, Take Immediate Steps To Correct It.

But The Reality Of The World Today Is That Grounding Ethics In Religion Is No Longer Adequate. This Is Why I Believe The Time Has Come To Find A Way Of Thinking About Spirituality And Ethics That Is Beyond Religion.

There Are Techniques Of Buddhism, Such As Meditation, That Anyone Can Adopt. And, Of Course, There Are Christian Monks And Nuns Who Already Use Buddhist Methods In Order To Develop Their Devotion, Compassion, And Ability To Forgive.

I Believe That The Destructive Nature Of Society That Now Threatens The Existence Of The Entire Human World Has Much To Do With Human Intelligence. The Way To Overcome All Human Suffering-that Also Is Through Human Intelligence.

Ultimately, The Decision To Save The Environment Must Come From The Human Heart. The Key Point Is A Call For A Genuine Sense Of Universal Responsibility That Is Based On Love, Compassion And Clear Awareness.

When I Meet People From Other Cultures I Know That They Too Want Happiness And Do Not Want Suffering, This Allows Me To See Them As Brothers And Sisters.

Tibet Is Not Like Kuwait. Kuwait Has Oil.

Although Individuals May Be Highly Intelligent, They Are Sometimes Dogged By Skepticism And Doubts. They Are Clever, But They Tend To Be Hesitant And Skeptical And Are Never Really Able To Settle Down. These People Are The Least Receptive.

Despite All Philosophical Differences, All Major World Religions Have The Same Potential To Create Good Human Beings.

To Be Kind, Honest And Have Positive Thoughts; To Forgive Those Who Harm Us And Treat Everyone As A Friend; To Help Those Who Are Suffering And Never To Consider Ourselves Superior To Anyone Else: Even If This Advice Seems Rather Simplistic, Make The Effort Of Seeing Whether By Following It You Can Find Greater Happiness.

From A Strictly Practical Perspective, On Certain Occasions Violence Appears To Be Useful. We Can Solve A Problem Quickly By Force. But This Success Is Often At The Expense Of The Rights And Welfare Of Others. Although One Problem Has Been Solved, The Seed Of Another Has Been Planted.

So Long As We Are Under The Control Of Disturbing Emotions, Real Happiness Is Hard To Find.

Unless We Possess High Spiritual Qualifications, There Is No Doubt That The Events Life Throws Upon Us Will Give Rise To Frustration, Emotional Turmoil, And Other Distorted States Of Consciousness. These Imperfect States Of Mind In Turn Give Rise To Imperfect Activities, And The Seeds Of Suffering Are Ever Planted In A Steady Flow.

Those Who Don't Have A Life Filled With Luxury May Have A Home Filled With Compassion, Based On Their Choice To Be Content And To Practice Self-discipline. Even When We Have Physical Hardships, We Can Be Very Happy.

Learn And Obey The Rules Very Well So You Will Know How To Break Them Properly.

All I Can Do Is Engage With Complete Sincerity. Then Whatever Happens, There Is No Regret.

‎in Today's Materialistic World There Is A Risk Of People Becoming Slaves To Money, As Though They Were Simply Cogs In A Huge Money-making Machine. This Does Nothing For Human Dignity, Freedom, And Genuine Well-being. Wealth Should Serve Humanity, And Not The Other Way Around.

Only The Development Of Compassion And Understanding For Others Can Bring Us The Tranquility And Happiness We All Seek.

I Think There's Every Reason This 21st Century Will Be Much Happier.

On Those Days When I Can Spend A Few Hours Getting Some Understanding, I Feel Fulfilled. I Feel As If I Have Made Good Use Of My Time.

I Believe That Whether A Person Follows Any Religion Or Not Is Unimportant, He Or She Must Have A Good Heart, A Warm Heart.

There Is A True Feminist Movement In Buddhism That Relates To The Goddess Tārā. Following Her Cultivation Of Bodhicitta, The Bodhisattva's Motivation, She Looked Upon The Situation Of Those Striving Towards Full Awakening And She Felt That There Were Too Few People Who Attained Buddhahood As Women. So She Vowed, 'i Have Developed Bodhicitta As A Woman. For All My Lifetimes Along The Path I Vow To Be Born As A Woman, And In My Final Lifetime When I Attain Buddhahood, Then, Too, I Will Be A Woman.'

The Purpose Of Our Lives Is To Be Happy.

At A Fundamental Level, As Human Beings, We Are All The Same; Each One Of Us Aspires To Happiness And Each One Of Us Does Not Wish To Suffer. This Is Why, Whenever I Have The Opportunity, I Try To Draw People's Attention To What As Members Of The Human Family We Have In Common And The Deeply Interconnected Nature Of Our Existence And Welfare.

There Needs To Be Understanding That Anger Never Helps To Solve A Problem. It Destroys Our Peace Of Mind And Blinds Our Ability To Think Clearly. Anger And Attachment Are Emotions That Distort Our View Of Reality.

Look At South Africa, The Former Soviet Union, And The Middle East. They Still Have Many Problems, Setbacks As Well As Breakthroughs, But Basically Changes Have Happened That Were Considered Unthinkable A Decade Ago.

An Ethical Act Is One Which Does Not Harm Others' Experience Or Expectation Of Happiness.

As Human, We All Have The Same Human Potential, Unless There Is Some Sort Of Retarded Brain Function. The Wonderful Human Brain Is The Source Of Our Strength And The Source Of Our Future, Provided We Utilize It In The Right Direction. If We Use The Brilliant Human Mind In The Wrong Way, It Is Really A Disaster.

Right From The Moment Of Our Birth, We Are Under The Care And Kindness Of Our Parents, And Then Later On In Our Life When We Are Oppressed By Sickness And Become Old, We Are Again Dependent On The Kindness Of Others. Since At The Beginning And End Of Our Lives We Are So Dependent On Other's Kindness, How Can It Be In The Middle That We Would Neglect Kindness Towards Others?

Nothing Is Permanent.

We Live In A Global Economy; We Face Problems Like Climate Change That Affect Us All. The 7 Billion Human Beings Alive Today Belong To One Human Family. In The Context That Others' Interests Are In Our Interest And Our Interest Is In Their Interest, The Use Of Force Is Self-destructive.

The Way Of Presentation Is Different According To Each Religion. In Theistic Religions Like Buddhism, Buddhist Values Are Incorporated. In Nontheistic Religions, Like Some Types Of Ancient Indian Thought, The Law Of Karma Applies. If You Do Something Good, You Get A Good Result. Now, What We Need Is A Way To Educate Nonbelievers. These Nonbelievers May Be Critical Of All Religions, But They Should Be Decent At Heart.

The Truly Good Gaze Upon Everything With Love And Understanding.

If Each Of Us Can Learn To Relate To Each Other More Out Of Compassion, With A Sense Of Connection To Each Other And A Deep Recognition Of Our Common Humanity, And More Important, To Teach This To Our Children, I Believe That This Can Go A Long Way In Reducing Many Of The Conflicts And Problems That We See Today.

I Believe Compassion To Be One Of The Few Things We Can Practice That Will Bring Immediate And Long-term Happiness To Our Lives. I'm Not Talking About The Short-term Gratification Of Pleasures Like Sex, Drugs Or Gambling (though I'm Not Knocking Them), But Something That Will Bring True And Lasting Happiness. The Kind That Sticks.

When The Days Become Longer And There Is More Sunshine, The Grass Becomes Fresh And, Consequently, We Feel Very Happy. On The Other Hand, In Autumn, One Leaf Falls Down And Another Leaf Falls Down. The Beautiful Plants Become As If Dead And We Do Not Feel Very Happy. Why? I Think It Is Because Deep Down Our Human Nature Likes Construction, And Does Not Like Destruction. Naturally, Every Action Which Is Destructive Is Against Human Nature. Constructiveness Is The Human Way. Therefore, I Think That In Terms Of Basic Human Feeling, Violence Is Not Good. Non-violence Is The Only Way.

My Main Interest Is In The Promotion Of Human Values. From Birth We Have A Sense Of Affection And Some Sense Of Concern For Others. We Need To Nurture It. Scientists Have Found That To Ensure Even Physical Health Peace Of Mind Is Essential. People Often Think That Love And Compassion Are Only Matters Of Religious Concern, But In Fact Such Values Are Necessary In All Human Relations

All Religion Teaches The Virtues Of Love, Altruism And Patience, While Showing Us How To Discipline And Transform Ourselves To Achieve Inner Peace And A Kind Heart. Therefore, They Are Worthy Of Our Respect.

Today, Due To The Massive Chinese Population Transfer, The Nation Of Tibet Truly Faces The Threat Of Extinction, Along With Its Unique Cultural Heritage Of Buddhist Spirituality.

We Have To Think And See How We Can Fundamentally Change Our Education System So That We Can Train People To Develop Warm-heartedness Early On In Order To Create A Healthier Society. I Don't Mean We Need To Change The Whole System, Just Improve It. We Need To Encourage An Understanding That Inner Peace Comes From Relying On Human Values Like, Love, Compassion, Tolerance And Honesty, And That Peace In The World Relies On Individuals Finding Inner Peace.

The Basis Of Human Rights Is Happy Life. Everyone Wants To Lead A Happy Life For Which We Need To Have A Holistic Approach.

My Main Concern Is Meeting With Public Because My Main Commitment, Main Interest Is Promotion Of Human Value, Human Affection, Compassion And Religious Harmony.

In Some Respects I Have Been The Most Unlucky Because I Have Spent More Time Living As A Refugee Outside My Country Than I Have Spent In Tibet. On The Other Hand, It Has Been Very Rewarding For Me To Live In A Democracy And To Learn About The World In A Way That We Tibetans Had Never Known Before.

Inner Peace Is The Key: If You Have Inner Peace, The External Problems Do Not Affect Your Deep Sense Of Peace And Tranquility... Without This Inner Peace, No Matter How Comfortable Your Life Is Materially, You May Still Be Worried, Disturbed Or Unhappy Because Of Circumstances.

Don't Become A Buddhist. The World Doesn't Need Buddhist. Do Practice Compassion. The World Needs More Compassion.

A Truly Peaceful Mind Is Very Sensitive, Very Aware.

We Can't Be Useful To Ourselves Unless We're Useful To Others .... Anyone Concerned Only By His Own Well-being Will Suffer Eventually. But, If Your Mental State Is Disturbed, Full Of Emotion, It Is Very Difficult To Cope With Problems, Because The Mind That Is Full Of Emotion Is Biased, Unable To See Reality. So Whatever You Do Will Be Unrealistic And Naturally Fail.

When We Are Motivated By Compassion And Wisdom, The Results Of Our Actions Benefit Everyone, Not Just Our Individual Selves Or Some Immediate Convenience. When We Are Able To Recognize And Forgive Ignorant Actions Of The Past, We Gain Strength To Constructively Solve The Problems Of The Present.

Nowadays, We Are Confronted By A Huge Gap Between Rich And Poor. This Is Not Only Morally Wrong, But Practically A Mistake. It Leads To The Rich Living In Anxiety And The Poor Living In Frustration, Which Has The Potential To Lead To More Violence. We Have To Work To Reduce This Gap. It's Truly Unfair That Some People Should Have So Much While Others Go Hungry.
