There Are Two Kinds Of Happiness - The Temporary Pleasure Derived Primarily From Material Comfort Alone And Another More Enduring Comfort That Results From The Thorough Transformation And Development Of The Mind. We Can See In Our Own Lives That The Latter Form Of Happiness Is Superior Because When Our Mental State Is Calm And Happy, We Can Easily Put Up With Minor Pains And Physical Discomforts. On The Other Hand, When Our Mind Is Restless And Upset, The Most Comfortable Physical Facilities Do Not Make Us Happy.

Open Your Arms To Change But Don't Let Go Of Your Values.

If Your Mental Attitude Is Positive, Even When Threats Abound, You Won’t Lose Your Inner Peace. On The Other Hand, If Your Mind Is Negative, Marked By Fear, Suspicion And Feelings Of Helplessness, Even Among Your Best Friends, In A Pleasant Atmosphere And Comfortable Surroundings, You Won’t Be Happy.

If You Contribute To Other Peoples Happiness, You Will Find The True Meaning Of Life. The Key Point Is To Have A Genuine Sense Of Universal Responsibility

I Usually Say The Aim Of Life Is To Be Happy. Our Existence Is Based On Hope. Our Life Is Rooted In The Opportunity To Be Happy, Not Necessarily Wealthy, But Happy Within Our Own Minds. If We Only Indulge In Sensory Pleasure, We'll Be Little Different From Animals. In Fact, We Have This Marvellous Brain And Intelligence; We Must Learn To Use It.

So Long As Space Remains So Long As Sentient Beings' Suffering Remains I Will Remain In Order To Help, In Order To Serve.

Without Your Own Effort It Is Impossible For Blessings To Come.

In Some Cases, Lack Of Full Knowledge Or Holistic View, That Is Also Part Of The Problem. But Mainly Lack Of Moral Principle. So Long You Have This Genuine Sort Of Concern, Well Being Of Other. That's The Foundation Of Moral Principle.

Like Anyone Else, I Too Have The Potential For Violence; I Too Have Anger In Me. However, I Try To Recall That Anger Is A Destructive Emotion. I Remind Myself That Scientists Now Say That Anger Is Bad For Our Health; It Eats Into Our Immune System. So, Anger Destroys Our Peace Of Mind And Our Physical Health. We Shouldn’t Welcome It Or Think Of It As Natural Or As A Friend.

We Have Global Communication And Yet Confrontation Is More Common Than Dialogue.

There Is No Way To Escape Death, It Is Just Like Trying To Escape By Four Great Mountains Touching Sky. There Is No Escape From These Four Mountains Of Birth, Old Age, Sickness And Death.

Anger And Hatred Are The Real Enemies That We Must Confront And Defeat, Not The 'enemies' Who Appear From Time To Time In Our Lives.

One Great Question Underlies Our Experience, Whether We Think About It Or Not: What Is The Purpose Of Life? From The Moment Of Birth Every Human Being Wants Happiness And Does Not Want Suffering. Neither Social Conditioning Nor Education Nor Ideology Affects This. >from The Very Core Of Our Being, We Simply Desire Contentment. Therefore, It Is Important To Discover What Will Bring About The Greatest Degree Of Happiness.

Although We Are All The Same In Not Wanting Problems And Wanting A Peaceful Life, We Tend To Create A Lot Of Problems For Ourselves. Encountering Those Problems, Anger Develops And Overwhelms Our Mind, Which Leads To Violence. A Good Way To Counter This And To Work For A More Peaceful World Is To Develop Concern For Others. Then Our Anger, Jealousy And Other Destructive Emotions Will Naturally Weaken And Diminish.

Human Beings Are Not Intrinsically Selfish, Which Isolates Us From Others. We Are Essentially Social Animals Who Depend On Others To Meet Our Needs. We Achieve Happiness, Prosperity And Progress Through Social Interaction. Therefore, Having A Kind And Helpful Attitude Contributes To Our Own And Others' Happiness.

It Is Important To Reflect On The Kindness Of Others. Every Aspect Of Our Present Well-being Is Due To Others' Hard Work. The Buildings We Live And Work In, The Roads We Travel, The Clothes We Wear, And The Food We Eat, Are All Provided By Others. None Of Them Would Exist But For The Kindness Of So Many People Unknown To Us.

What We Do And Think In Our Own Lives, Then, Becomes Of Extreme Importance As It Effects Everything We're Connected To.

Sometimes People Feel Mind Is Merely The - In Some Animal, The Energy Or Something From The Brain. Now There Are Little Sort Of Curiosities Or I Think Doubt Sometimes A Sheer Sort Of Mental Attitude, Some Change In Our Brain. So These Fields, Now Scientists Are Showing Some Interest.

What Unites All Beings Is Their Desire For Happiness.

I Don't Want To Convert People To Buddhism - All Major Religions, When Understood Properly, Have The Same Potential For Good.

The Reality Today Is That We Are All Interdependent And Have To Co-exist On This Small Planet. Therefore, The Only Sensible And Intelligent Way Of Resolving Differences And Clashes Of Interests, Whether Between Individuals Or Nations, Is Through Dialogue.

Spirituality Actually Must Be Above Politics. Or Some Other Sort Of Business.

Logically, Harmony Must Come From The Heart... Harmony Very Much Based On Trust. As Soon As Use Force, Creates Fear. Fear And Trust Cannot Go Together.

If You Don't Love Yourself, You Cannot Love Others. You Will Not Be Able To Love Others. If You Have No Compassion For Yourself Then You Are Not Able Of Developing Compassion For Others.

The Practicing Of Loving Kindness Toward One's Enemy Is The Ultimate Test Of One's Own Spiritual Attainment.

Your Friend, Your Enemy, Your Neutral All Are Equal. Genuine Compassion Is Unbiased.

Through Difficult Experiences, Life Sometimes Becomes More Meaningful.

Individuality Is Very Important For A Full Human Life.

All People And Things Are Interdependent. The World Has Become So Small That No Nation Can Solve Its Problems Alone, In Isolation From Others. That Is Why I Believe We Must All Cultivate A Sense Of Responsibility Based On Love And Compassion For Each Other.

In Our Concern For Others, We Worry Less About Ourselves. When We Worry Less About Ourselves An Experience Of Our Own Suffering Is Less Intense. What Does This Tell Us? Firstly, Because Our Every Action Has A Universal Dimension, A Potential Impact On Others' Happiness, Ethics Are Necessary As A Means To Ensure That We Do Not Harm Others. Secondly, It Tells Us That Genuine Happiness Consists In Those Spiritual Qualities Of Love, Compassion, Patience, Tolerance And Forgiveness And So On. For It Is These Which Provide Both For Our Happiness And Others' Happiness.

I Hold The View That Death Is Rather Like Changing One's Clothes When They Are Torn And Old. It Is Not An End In Itself. Yet Death Is Unpredictable-you Do Not Know When And Howt It Will Take Place.

Compassion Suits Our Physical Condition, Whereas Anger, Fear And Distrust Are Harmful To Our Well-being. Therefore, Just As We Learn The Importance Of Physical Hygiene To Physical Health, To Ensure Healthy Minds, We Need To Learn Some Kind Of Emotional Hygiene.

There Are Five Billion Human Beings And In A Certain Way I Think We Need Five Billion Different Religions.

The Highest Happiness Is When One Reaches The Stage Of Liberation, At Which There Is No More Suffering.

Although Under Particular Circumstances, The Violence Method - Any Method - Can Be Justified, Nevertheless Once You Commit Violence, Then Counterviolence Will Be Returned.

Happiness Arises As A Result Of Different Causes And Conditions. If You Harm Someone Out Of Anger, You May Feel Some Superficial Satisfaction, But Deep Down You Know It Was Wrong. Your Confidence Will Be Undermined. However, If You Have An Altruistic Attitude, You’ll Feel Comfortable And Confident In The Presence Of Others.

Treat Each Person As You Would An Old Friend.

Everybody Loves To Talk About Calmness And Peace, Whether In A Family, National, Or International Context, But Without Inner Peace How Can We Make Real Peace? World Peace Through Hatred And Force Is Impossible.

My Message Is Always The Same: To Cultivate And Practice Love, Kindness, Compassion And Tolerance.

Every Single Being, Even Those Who Are Hostile To Us, Is Just As Afraid Of Suffering As We Are, And Seeks Happiness In The Same Way We Do. Every Person Has The Same Right As We Do To Be Happy And Not To Suffer. So Let's Take Care Of Others Wholeheartedly, Of Both Our Friends And Our Enemies. This Is The Basis For True Compassion.

We Have Always Been A Nation Different From The Chinese. Long Ago We Fought Wars With Them.

When The Days Become Longer And There Is More Sunshine, The Grass Becomes Fresh And, Consequently, We Feel Very Happy. On The Other Hand, In Autumn, One Leaf Falls Down And Another Leaf Falls Down. The Beautiful Plants Become As If Dead And We Do Not Feel Very Happy. Why? I Think It Is Because Deep Down Our Human Nature Likes Construction, And Does Not Like Destruction. Naturally, Every Action Which Is Destructive Is Against Human Nature. Constructiveness Is The Human Way. Therefore, I Think That In Terms Of Basic Human Feeling, Violence Is Not Good. Non-violence Is The Only Way.

Whether You Call It Buddhism Or Another Religion, Self-discipline, That's Important. Self-discipline With Awareness Of Consequences.

Cultivating A Close, Warmhearted Feeling For Others Automatically Puts The Mind At Ease. It Helps Remove Whatever Fears Or Insecurities We May Have And Gives Us The Strength To Cope With Any Obstacles We Encounter.

When You Are Discontent, You Always Want More, More, More. Your Desire Can Never Be Satisfied. But When You Practice Contentment, You Can Say To Yourself, 'oh Yes - I Already Have Everything That I Really Need.'

Even More Important Than The Warmth And Affection We Receive, Is The Warmth And Affection We Give. It Is By Giving Warmth And Affection, By Having A Genuine Sense Of Concern For Others, In Other Words Through Compassion, That We Gain The Conditions For Genuine Happiness. More Important Than Being Loved, Therefore, Is To Love.

The Creatures That Inhabit This Earth-be They Human Beings Or Animals-are Here To Contribute, Each In Its Own Particular Way, To The Beauty And Prosperity Of The World.

We Are All, By Nature, Clearly Oriented Toward The Basic Human Values Of Love And Compassion. We All Prefer The Love Of Others To Their Hatred. We All Prefer Others’ Generosity To Meanness. And Who Is There Among Us Who Does Not Prefer Tolerance, Respect And Forgiveness Of Our Failings To Bigotry, Disrespect, And Resentment?

My Earnest Request Is That You Practice Love And Kindness Whether You Believe In A Religion Or Not

From That Viewpoint, America, Free Country, Democratic Country, So More Opportunity. Still Is More Sort Of Alive. This Is My Feeling.

Our Greatest Duty And Our Main Responsibility Is To Help Others. But Please, If You Can't Help Them, Would You Please Not Hurt Them.

It Is Maybe Not The Best Choice To Have A Favorite Anything.

All Religions Try To Benefit People, With The Same Basic Message Of The Need For Love And Compassion, For Justice And Honesty, For Contentment. So Merely Changing Formal Religious Affiliations Will Often Not Help Much. On The Other Hand, In Pluralistic, Democratic Societies, There Is The Freedom To Adopt The Religion Of Your Choice. This Is Good. This Lets Curious People Like You Run Around On The Loose!

Buddhism Strongly Discourages Blind Faith And Fanaticism.

Real Love Is Not Based On Attachment, But On Altruism. In This Case, Your Compassion Will Remain As A Humane Response To Suffering As Long As Beings Continue To Suffer.

Provided That Societies Stay Mindful Of The Challenges That Capitalism Creates And Never Forget The Paramount Importance Of Inclusion And Equal Opportunity, We Can And Should Celebrate The Miracle Of Free Enterprise-and The Billions Of Souls It Has Helped Free From Desperate Poverty.

If One Enemy Is Killed, Two More Will Appear. It Is Important We Cultivate Love And Compassion To All The Sentient Beings Which Is The Way To Bring Peace To All.

My Main Interest Is In The Promotion Of Human Values. From Birth We Have A Sense Of Affection And Some Sense Of Concern For Others. We Need To Nurture It. Scientists Have Found That To Ensure Even Physical Health Peace Of Mind Is Essential. People Often Think That Love And Compassion Are Only Matters Of Religious Concern, But In Fact Such Values Are Necessary In All Human Relations

World Peace Must Develop From Inner Peace. Peace Is Not Just Mere Absence Of Violence. Peace Is, I Think, The Manifestation Of Human Compassion.

For The Rest Of Your Life To Be As Meaningful As Possible, Engage In Spiritual Practice If You Can. It Is Nothing More Than Acting Out Of Concern For Others. If You Practice Sincerely And With Persistence, Little By Little, Step By Step You Will Gradually Reorder Your Habits And Attitudes So As To Think Less About Your Own Narrow Concerns And More About Others' - And Thereby Find Peace And Happiness Yourself.

Peace In The World Depends On Peace In The Hearts Of Individuals; This Depends On Each Of Us Practising Ethics By Disciplining Our Negative Thoughts And Emotions, And Developing Basic Spiritual Qualities.

If You Are Mindful Of Death, It Will Not Come As A Surprise-you Will Not Be Anxious. You Will Feel That Death Is Merely Like Changing Clothes. Consequently, At That Point You Will Be Able To Maintain Your Calmness Of Mind.

Whether You Believe In God Or Not Does Not Matter So Much, Whether You Believe In Buddha Or Not Does Not Matter So Much; As A Buddhist, Whether You Believe In Reincarnation Or Not Does Not Matter So Much. You Must Lead A Good Life. And A Good Life Does Not Mean Just Good Food, Good Clothes, Good Shelter. These Are Not Sufficient. A Good Motivation Is What Is Needed: Compassion, Without Dogmatism, Without Complicated Philosophy; Just Understanding That Others Are Human Brothers And Sisters And Respecting Their Rights And Human Dignity.

So If You Provide Some Happiness, Some Comfort To Others, Then Your Life Becomes Meaningful. If Your Life Creates Problems Or Suffering To Others, Then There's No Meaning To Your Existence.

Study And Practice Are Both Very Important, But They Must Go Hand In Hand. Faith Without Knowledge Is Not Sufficient. Faith Needs To Be Supported By Reason. However Intellectual Understanding That Is Not Applied In Practice Is Also Of Little Use. Whatever We Learn From Study We Need To Apply Sincerely In Our Daily Lives.

Sometimes We Feel That One Individual's Action Is Very Insignificant. Then We Think, Of Course, That Effects Should Come From Channeling Or From A Unifying Movement. But The Movement Of The Society, Community Or Group Of People Means Joining Individuals. Society Means A Collection Of Individuals, So That Initiative Must Come From Individuals. Unless Each Individual Develops A Sense Of Responsibility, The Whole Community Cannot Move. So Therefore, It Is Very Essential That We Should Not Feel That Individual Effort Is Meaningless- You Should Not Feel That Way. We Should Make An Effort.

We Can Solve Many Problems In An Appropriate Way, Without Any Difficulty, If We Cultivate Harmony, Friendship And Respect For One Another.

There Is No Self-interest Completely Unrelated To Others' Interests. Due To The Fundamental Interconnectedness Which Lies At The Heart Of Reality, Your Interest Is Also My Interest. From This It Becomes Clear That "my" Interest And "your" Interest Are Intimately Connected. In A Deep Sense, They Converge.

If Scientific Analysis Were Conclusively To Demonstrate Certain Claims In Buddhism To Be False, Then We Must Accept The Findings Of Science And Abandon Those Claims.
