If The Individual Is Happier, His Or Her Family Is Happier; If Families Are Happy, Neighborhoods And Nations Will Be Happy. By Transforming Ourselves We Can Change Our Human Way Of Life And Make This A Century Of Compassion.

Blessings Don’t Come From Outside, But From Within. Whatever Blessings We Receive Are The Result Of Our Own Efforts And Positive Actions.

Whether We Love Humanity Or Not, We Must Realize That We Are Part Of It. My Future Depends Entirely On The Future Of Humanity, And So I Am Compelled To Take Care Of Humanity. Anger Cannot Be Overcome By Anger. If Someone Is Angry With You, And You Show Anger In Return, The Result Is A Disaster. On The Other Hand, If You Control Your Anger And Show Its Opposite - Love, Compassion, Tolerance And Patience - Not Only Will You Remain Peaceful, But The Other Person's Anger Will Also Diminish.

Initially, Terrorism Was A Certain Mixture Of Politics, Economics, And Religion. Now, It Seems That Terrorism Is More Individual And Done To Avenge Personal Grudges. So There Are Two Kinds Of Terrorism.

When Educating The Minds Of Our Youth, We Must Not Forget To Educate Their Hearts.

Most Adults Have The Advantage Of Education Over Children, But What Is The Use Of An Education If They Show A Big Smile While Hiding Negative Feelings Deep Inside? Children Don�t Usually Act In Such A Manner. If They Feel Angry With Someone, They Express It, And Then It Is Finished. They Can Still Play With That Person The Following Day.

Developing Inner Values Is Much Like Physical Exercise. The More We Train Our Abilities, The Stronger They Become. The Difference Is That, Unlike The Body, When It Comes To Training The Mind, There Is No Limit To How Far We Can Go.

I Believe That The Time Has Come For Women To Take More Active Roles In All Domains Of Human Society, In An Age In Which Education And The Capacities Of The Mind, Not Physical Strength, Define Leadership. This Could Help Create A More Equitable And Compassionate Society.

Sin Contains Its Own Judgement And Punishment.

Tolerance And Patience Should Not Be Read As Signs Of Weakness. They Are Signs Of Strength.

You Can Develop The Right Attitude Toward Others If You Have Kindness, Love And Respect For Them, And A Clear Realization Of The Oneness Of All Human Beings.

If Indeed The Qualities Such As Love, Patience, Tolerance, And Forgiveness Are What Happiness Consists In, And If It Is Also True That Compassion, Defined As Concern For Others, Is Both The Source And The Fruit Of These Qualities, Then The More We Are Compassionate, The More We Provide For Our Own Happiness.

It Is Natural That We Face Obstacles In Pursuit Of Our Goals. But If We Remain Passive, Making No Effort To Solve The Problems We Meet, Conflicts Will Arise And Hindrances Will Grow. Transforming These Obstacles Into Opportunities Is A Challenge To Our Human Ingenuity.

People Think Of Animals As If They Were Vegetables, And That Is Not Right. We Have To Change The Way People Think About Animals. I Encourage The Tibetan People And All People To Move Toward A Vegetarian Diet That Doesn’t Cause Suffering.

In Buddhism, Both Learning And Practice Are Extremely Important, And They Must Go Hand In Hand. Without Knowledge, Just To Rely On Faith, Faith, And More Faith Is Good But Not Sufficient. So The Intellectual Part Must Definitely Be Present. At The Same Time, Strictly Intellectual Development Without Faith And Practice, Is Also Of No Use. That Means We Are Not Well Equipped To Be Aggressive Beings. Even The Size Of Our Mouth Is Very Small. So I Think The Basic Nature Of Human Beings Should Be Gentle.

Without Inner Peace It Is Impossible To Achieve World Peace, External Peace. Weapons Themselves Do Not Act. They Have Not Come Out Of The Blue. Man Has Made Them. But Even Given Those Weapons, Those Terrible Weapons, They Cannot Act By Themselves. As Long As They Are Left Alone In Storage They Cannot Do Any Harm. A Human Being Must Use Them. Someone Must Push The Button. Satan, The Evil Powers, Cannot Push That Button. Human Beings Must Do It.

Taking Care Of Our Planet Is Like Taking Care Of Our Houses. Since We Human Beings Come From Nature, There Is No Point In Our Going Against Nature, Which Is Why I Say The Environment Is Not A Matter Of Religion Or Ethics Or Morality. These Are Luxuries, Since We Can Survive Without Them. But We Will Not Survive If We Continue To Go Against Nature.

A Heart Full Of Love And Compassion Is The Main Source Of Inner Strength, Willpower, Happiness, And Mental Tranquility

For Tibetans, The Real Strength Of Our Struggle Is Truth - Not Size, Money, Or Expertise.

Refraining From Harm, Not Out Of Fear, But Out Of Concern For Others, Their Well-being And Out Of Respect Is Non-violence.

Whether One Is Rich Or Poor, Educated Or Illiterate, Religious Or Nonbelieving, Man Or Woman, Black, White, Or Brown, We Are All The Same. Physically, Emotionally, And Mentally, We Are All Equal. We All Share Basic Needs For Food, Shelter, Safety, And Love. We All Aspire To Happiness And We All Shun Suffering. Each Of Us Has Hopes, Worries, Fears, And Dreams. Each Of Us Wants The Best For Our Family And Loved Ones. We All Experience Pain When We Suffer Loss And Joy When We Achieve What We Seek. On This Fundamental Level, Religion, Ethnicity, Culture, And Language Make No Difference.

I Have Come To The Conclusion That Whether Or Not A Person Is A Religious Believer Does Not Matter. Far More Important Is That They Be A Good Human Being.

I Feel That Compassionate Thought Is The Most Precious Thing There Is. It Is Something That Only We Human Beings Can Develop. And If We Have A Good Heart, A Warm Heart, Warm Feelings, We Will Be Happy And Satisfied Ourselves, And Our Friends Will Experience A Friendly And Peaceful Atmosphere As Well. This Can Be Experienced Community To Community, Country To Country, Continent To Continent.

It Is Maybe Not The Best Choice To Have A Favorite Anything.

I Think Many People Knows What I Am Thinking. The Whole World Knows I Am Not Seeking Independence, Therefore Is Many Tibetan Disappointed, And Also Some Of Our Supporters - Many Indians, Many Europeans, Many Americans Are Also Disappointed Because I Am Not Seeking Independence.

There Is No Need To Mention The Great Difference Between The Amount Of Satisfaction There Is In Just Oneself Being Happy And The Amount Of Satisfaction There Is In An Infinite Number Of People Being Happy.

Reality Is Devoid Of Any Intrinsic Identity That Can Be Captured By Any One Single Proposition - That Is What Buddha Meant By "voidness."

There Is A True Feminist Movement In Buddhism That Relates To The Goddess Tārā. Following Her Cultivation Of Bodhicitta, The Bodhisattva's Motivation, She Looked Upon The Situation Of Those Striving Towards Full Awakening And She Felt That There Were Too Few People Who Attained Buddhahood As Women. So She Vowed, 'i Have Developed Bodhicitta As A Woman. For All My Lifetimes Along The Path I Vow To Be Born As A Woman, And In My Final Lifetime When I Attain Buddhahood, Then, Too, I Will Be A Woman.'

Ultimately, The Decision To Save The Environment Must Come From The Human Heart. The Key Point Is A Call For A Genuine Sense Of Universal Responsibility That Is Based On Love, Compassion And Clear Awareness.

To Help Us Bring Benefit To Others Through Our Words And Actions, It Is Useful To Cultivate An Attitude Of Sympathetic Joy In Others’ Achievements And Good Fortune. This Attitude Is A Powerful Antidote Against Envy, Which Is Not Only A Source Of Unnecessary Suffering On The Individual Level But Also An Obstacle To Our Ability To Reach Out And Engage With Others.

A Learned Person Will Become Noble Only When He Or She Has Put Into Real Practice What Has Been Learned, Instead Of Mere Words.

The Antidote To Hatred In The Heart, The Source Of Violence, Is Tolerance.

Buddhism Does Not Accept A Theory Of God, Or A Creator. According To Buddhism, One's Own Actions Are The Creator, Ultimately. Some People Say That, From A Certain Angle, Buddhism Is Not A Religion But Rather A Science Of Mind.

For Those Who May Not Find Happiness To Exercise Religious Faith, It's Okay To Remain A Radical Atheist; It's Absolutely An Individual Right, But The Important Thing Is With A Compassionate Heart - Then No Problem.

It's Not Enough To Be Compassionate. You Must Act.

We Need Material Development, But We Need To Understand That By Itself It Doesn't Bring Peace Of Mind.

The Stronger Your Sense Of 'i', The Narrower The Scope Of Your Thinking Becomes; Then Even Small Obstacles Become Unbearable. On The Other Hand, If You Concern Yourself Mainly With Others, The Broader Your Thinking Becomes, And Life's Inevitable Difficulties Disturb You Less.

Anger Is The Ultimate Troublemaker. I Feel You Can Express A Strong Disapproval Or Dislike Of An Object Without Losing Your Temper.

Anger Is The Real Destroyer Of Our Good Human Qualities; An Enemy With A Weapon Cannot Destroy These Qualities, But Anger Can. Anger Is Our Real Enemy.

Be A Good Human Being, A Warmhearted, Affectionate Person. That Is My Fundamental Belief.

Those Who Have Little Interest In Spirituality Shouldn’t Think That Human Inner Values Don’t Apply To You. The Inner Peace Of An Alert And Calm Mind Are The Source Of Real Happiness And Good Health. Killing Animals For Sport, For Pleasure, For Adventures, And For Hides And Furs Is A Phenomenon Which Is At Once Disgusting And Distressing. There Is No Justification In Indulging In Such Acts Of Brutality . . . Life Is As Dear To A Mute Creature As It Is To A Man. Just As One Wants Happiness And Fears Pain, Just As One Wants To Live And Not To Die, So Do Other Creatures.

Misunderstanding May Arise By Confusing The Buddhist And Scientific Definitions Of Death. Within The Scientific System You Spoke Quite Validly Of The Death Of The Brain And The Death Of Heart. Different Parts Of The Body Can Die Separately. However, In The Buddhist System, The Word Death Is Not Used In That Way. You'd Never Speak Of The Death Of A Particular Part Of The Body, But Rather Of The Death Of An Entire Person. When People Say That A Certain Person Died, We Don't Ask, "well, Which Part Died?"

If We Want Spiritual Development, The Practice Of Patience Is Essential.

In Order To Become Prosperous, A Person Must Initially Work Very Hard, So He Or She Has To Sacrifice A Lot Of Leisure Time.

Anger And Hatred Cannot Bring Harmony. The Noble Task Of Arms Control And Disarmament Cannot Be Accomplished By Confrontation And Condemnation. Hostile Attitudes Only Serve To Heat Up The Situation, Whereas A True Sense Of Respect Gradually Cools Down What Otherwise Could Become Explosive. We Must Recognize The Frequent Contradictions Between Short-term Benefit And Long-term Harm.

Peace Must First Be Developed Within An Individual. And I Believe That Love, Compassion, And Altruism Are The Fundamental Basis For Peace. Once These Qualities Are Developed Within An Individual, He Or She Is Then Able To Create An Atmosphere Of Peace And Harmony. This Atmosphere Can Be Expanded And Extended From The Individual To His Family, From The Family To The Community And Eventually To The Whole World.

I Don't Know Whether The Universe, With Its Countless Galaxies, Stars And Planets, Has A Deeper Meaning Or Not, But At The Very Least, It Is Clear That We Humans Who Live On This Earth Face The Task Of Making A Happy Life For Ourselves. Therefore, It Is Important To Discover What Will Bring About The Greatest Degree Of Happiness.

According To Buddhist Psychology Most Of Our Troubles Stem From Attachment To Things That We Mistakenly See As Permanent.

When I Look At Birds And Animals, Their Survival Is Without Rules, Without Conditions, Without Organization. But Mothers Take Good Care Of Their Offspring. That's Nature. In Human Beings Also, Parents - Particularly Mothers - And Children Have A Special Bond. Mother's Milk Is A Sign Of This Affection. We Are Created That Way. The Child's Survival Is Entirely Dependent On Someone Else's Affection. So, Basically, Each Individual's Survival Or Future Depends On Society. We Need These Human Values.

The Cultivation Of Compassion Is No Longer A Luxury, But A Necessity, If Our Species Is To Survive.

Freedom Is The Real Source Of Human Happiness And Creativity. Irrespective Of Whether You Are A Believer Or Nonbeliever, Whether Buddhist, Christian, Or Jew, The Important Thing Is To Be A Good Human Being.

The Key To Human Happiness Lies Within Our Own State Of Mind, And So Too Do The Primary Obstacles To That Happiness.

If You Practice Sincerely And With Persistence, Little By Little, Step By Step You Will Gradually Reorder Your Habits And Attitudes So As To Think Less About Your Own Narrow Concerns And More About Others' - And Thereby Find Peace And Happiness Yourself.

The More Adept We Become At Cultivating An Altruistic Attitude, The Happier We Will Feel And The More Comfortable Will Be The Atmosphere Around Us. But If Our Emotions Fluctuate Wildly And We Easily Give In To Hatred And Jealousy, Even Our Friends Will Avoid Us. So Even For People With No Spiritual Beliefs, It Is Important To Have A Peaceful Mind.

It Is The State Of Mind Of The Person Wielding The Instrument That Determines To What End It Will Be Put.

In Dealing With Those Who Are Undergoing Great Suffering, If You Feel "burnout" Setting In, If You Feel Demoralized And Exhausted, It Is Best, For The Sake Of Everyone, To Withdraw And Restore Yourself. The Point Is To Have A Long-term Perspective.

Compassion And Love Give Meaning To Our Activities And Makes Them Constructive.

Our Prime Purpose In This Life Is To Help Others. And If You Can't Help Them, At Least Don't Hurt Them.

Values Are Related To Our Emotions, Just As We Practice Physical Hygiene To Preserve Our Physical Health, We Need To Observe Emotional Hygiene To Preserve A Healthy Mind And Attitudes.

It Is Very Rare Or Almost Impossible That An Event Can Be Negative From All Points Of View.

Morally Speaking, We Should Be Concerned For Our Whole Environment.

Study And Practice Are Both Very Important, But They Must Go Hand In Hand. Faith Without Knowledge Is Not Sufficient. Faith Needs To Be Supported By Reason. However Intellectual Understanding That Is Not Applied In Practice Is Also Of Little Use. Whatever We Learn From Study We Need To Apply Sincerely In Our Daily Lives.

Foolish, Selfish People Are Always Thinking Of Themselves And The Result Is Always Negative. Wise Persons Think Of Others, Helping Them As Much As They Can, And The Result Is Happiness. Love And Compassion Are Beneficial Both For You And Others. Through Your Kindness To Others, Your Mind And Heart Will Open To Peace.

Compassion Seems To Be The Greatest Power.

Whatever The Intellectual Quality Of The Education Given Our Children, It Is Vital That It Include Elements Of Love And Compassion, For Nothing Guarantees That Knowledge Alone Will Be Truly Useful To Human Beings.
