To Followers Of Other Religious Traditions, I Would Like To Say, 'please Practice Your Own Religion Seriously And Sincerely.' And To Non-believers, I Request You To Try To Be Warm-hearted. I Ask This Of You Because These Mental Attitudes Actually Bring Us Happiness.

True Friends Share Genuine Closeness And Remain Friends Irrespective Of Fluctuating Fortunes.

It Is Time To Fill The World With Strong And Powerful Deeds. It Is Common Knowledge That No Great Captain In The World Has Ever Destroyed All Of His Enemies And Lived With A Sense Of Satisfaction. If One Enemy Is Killed, Two More Will Appear. It Is Important We Cultivate Love And Compassion To All The Sentient Beings Which Is The Way To Bring Peace To All.

A Wider Of More Altruistic Attitude Is Very Relevant In Today's World. If We Look At The Situation From Various Angles, Such As The Complexity And Inter-connectedness Of The Nature Of Modern Existence, Then We Will Gradually Notice A Change In Our Outlook, So That When We Say 'others' And When We Think Of Others, We Will No Longer Dismiss Them As Something That Is Irrelevant To Us. Peace Starts Within Each One Of Us. When We Have Inner Peace, We Can Be At Peace With Those Around Us.

There Are Techniques Of Buddhism, Such As Meditation, That Anyone Can Adopt. And, Of Course, There Are Christian Monks And Nuns Who Already Use Buddhist Methods In Order To Develop Their Devotion, Compassion, And Ability To Forgive.

Sensory Experience Does Not Offset The Intense Pain Or Pleasure We Feel On A Mental Level; It May Distract Us, But Doesn't Overcome It. On The Other Hand, If We Have Peace Of Mind, Even Negative Experiences Do Not Upset Us. Peace Of Mind Is Also Good For Our Physical Health. Medical Experts Have Found That Anger, Hatred And Fear Eat Into Our Immune System. Being Calm And Relaxed Is Better For Our Physical Well-being.

Let Us Have That Kind Of Effort From All, Except Those Child Or Handicapped Or Too Old. But The Many People, They Sort Of Have The Opportunity To Create Trouble Or To Create A Good Thing, Now Should Think More Seriously, Should Not Indulge Any Work To Create More Problems.

What Acts As A Far More Effective Circumstance For Generating Compassion And What, In Fact, Rouses Us From Our Comfortable Meditation Seat Is Actually Seeing Or Hearing Others - Encountering Others Directly, Not Just Conceptually In Our Imagination.

There Is Often A Big Disparity Between The Way In Which We Perceive Things And The Way Things Really Are.

I Usually Say The Aim Of Life Is To Be Happy. Our Existence Is Based On Hope. Our Life Is Rooted In The Opportunity To Be Happy, Not Necessarily Wealthy, But Happy Within Our Own Minds. In The Context That Others' Interests Are In Our Interest And Our Interest Is In Their Interest, The Use Of Force Is Self-destructive.

The Ultimate Source Of My Mental Happiness Is My Peace Of Mind. Nothing Can Destroy This Except My Own Anger.

There Is A Saying In Tibetan That "at The Door Of The Miserable Rich Man Sleeps The Contented Beggar". The Point Of This Saying Is Not That Poverty Is A Virtue, But That Happiness Does Not Come With Wealth, But From Setting Limits To One's Desires, And Living Within Those Limits With Satisfaction.

The Universe That We Inhabit And Our Shared Perception Of It Are The Results Of A Common Karma. Likewise, The Places That We Will Experience In Future Rebirths Will Be The Outcome Of The Karma That We Share With The Other Beings Living There. The Actions Of Each Of Us, Human Or Nonhuman, Have Contributed To The World In Which We Live. We All Have A Common Responsibility For Our World And Are Connected With Everything In It.

Because The Twentieth Century Was A Century Of Violence, Let Us Make The Twenty-first A Century Of Dialogue.

After I Handed Over All My Authority, I Feel Now Our Struggle [for Tibet ] Become Much, Much Safer. And Me Personally, The Day I Officially Handed Over, That Night, Very Unusual Sound. I Am Quite Free Now.

My Overriding Belief Is That It Is Always Possible For Criminals To Improve And That By Its Very Finality The Death Penalty Contradicts This.

Tolerance Is An Important Virtue Of Bodhisattvas .

The Nature Of The Mind Is Such That If Certain Mental Qualities Are Developed On A Sound Basis, They Not Only Remain, But They Also Increase. In Fact, Once Properly Developed, The Mind's Good Qualities Eventually Increase Indefinitely. Therefore Spiritual Practice Brings Us Long-term Happiness And Inner Strength.

Neither A Space Station Nor An Enlightened Mind Can Be Realized In A Day.

When We Are Angry We Are Blind To Reality. Anger May Bring Us A Temporary Burst Of Energy, But That Energy Is Blind And It Blocks The Part Of Our Brain That Distinguishes Right From Wrong. To Deal With Our Problems, We Need To Be Practical And Realistic. If We Are To Be Realistic, We Need To Use Our Human Intelligence Properly, Which Means We Need A Calm Mind.

To A Large Extent, Whether You Suffer Depends On How You Respond To A Given Situation.

Whether We Like It Or Not, We Have All Been Born Into This World As Part Of One Great Human Family. Rich Or Poor, Educated Or Uneducated, Belonging To One Nation Or Another, To One Religion Or Another, Adhering To This Ideology Or That, Ultimately Each Of Is Just A Human Being Like Everyone Else. We All Desire Happiness And Do Not Want Suffering.

Human Beings By Nature Want Happiness And Do Not Want Suffering. With That Feeling Everyone Tries To Achieve Happiness And Tries To Get Rid Of Suffering, And Everyone Has The Basic Right To Do This. In This Way, All Here Are The Same, Whether Rich Or Poor, Educated Or Uneducated, Easterner Or Westerner, Believer Or Non-believer, And Within Believers Whether Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, And So On. Basically, From The Viewpoint Of Real Human Value We Are All The Same.

Whether We Consider The Individual, Family, Local, National Or International Level, Peace Must Arise From Inner Peace. For Example, Making Prayers For Peace While Continuing To Harbor Anger Is Futile. Training The Mind And Overcoming Your Anger Is Much More Effective Than Mere Prayer. Anger, Hatred And Jealousy Never Solve Problems, Only Affection, Concern And Respect Can Do That.

Religion Is Like Going Out To Dinner With Friends. Everyone May Order Something Different, But Everyone Can Still Sit At The Same Table.

According To Accounts Of The Buddha's Life, It Would Seem That He Had A Very Deep Relationship With Nature. He Was Not Born In The Royal Palace But In A Park, Under A Sala Tree. He Attained Complete Enlightenment Under The Bodhi Tree And Left This Earth To Enter Parinirvana, Again, Between Three Sala Trees. It Would Seem That The Buddha Was Very Fond Of Trees.
