Love And Compassion Are Necessities, Not Luxuries. Without Them, Humanity Cannot Survive.""laughter Is Good For Thinking Because When People Laugh, It Is Easier For Them To Admit New Ideas To Their Minds.

The Most Important Benefit Of Patience Consists In The Way It Acts As A Powerful Antidote To The Affliction Of Anger - The Greatest Threat To Our Inner Peace, And Therefore Our Happiness. We Have To Think And See How We Can Fundamentally Change Our Education System So That We Can Train People To Develop Warm-heartedness Early On In Order To Create A Healthier Society. I Don't Mean We Need To Change The Whole System, Just Improve It. We Need To Encourage An Understanding That Inner Peace Comes From Relying On Human Values Like, Love, Compassion, Tolerance And Honesty, And That Peace In The World Relies On Individuals Finding Inner Peace.

Depression Seems To Be Related To Fear, Anger And Frustration. When You're In A Bad Mood, Even If You Meet With Your Friends, You Don't Take Pleasure In Their Company. But When You're In A Good Mood, Even If Things Go Wrong, You Can Cope With Them Without Difficulty. This Is Why Putting Yourself In A Good Mood, Making A Point Of Developing A Sense Of Loving Kindness Gives You Greater Inner Strength.

Old Friends Pass Away, New Friends Appear. It Is Just Like The Days. An Old Day Passes, A New Day Arrives. The Important Thing Is To Make It Meaningful: A Meaningful Friend - Or A Meaningful Day.

For The Same Reason, We Also Call Tolerance The "best Armor," Since It Protects You From Being Conquered By Hatred Itself.

It Is Very Important To Generate A Good Attitude, A Good Heart, As Much As Possible. From This, Happiness In Both The Short Term And The Long Term For Both Yourself And Others Will Come.

You Must Not Hate Those Who Do Wrong Or Harmful Things; But With Compassion, You Must Do What You Can To Stop Them — For They Are Harming Themselves, As Well As Those Who Suffer From Their Actions.

No One Can Afford To Assume That Someone Else Will Solve Their Problems.

Being Concerned About Other People Is Especially Relevant In Today's World. Distrust Brings Frustration And Fear. So Therefore, The Lonely Feeling Automatically Come. So, Lonely Feeling Is Not Creation Of Environment, But Creation Of Your Own Mental Attitude.

Awareness Of Death Is The Very Bedrock Of The Entire Path. Until You Have Developed This Awareness, All Other Practices Are Obstructed.

A Disciplined Mind Leads To Happiness, And An Undisciplined Mind Leads To Suffering.

As A Result, You Make More Genuine Friends And The Atmosphere Around You Is More Positive, Which Gives You Greater Inner Strength. Wealth Is Not Necessarily A Bad Thing When It Has Been Earned In An Honest Manner And Neither Other Individuals Nor The Environment Suffered For It.

Those Who Suffer From An Exaggerated Sense Of Their Own Ability And Accomplishment Are Continually Subject To Frustration, Disappointment, And Rage When Reality Intrudes And The World Doesn't Validate Their Idealized View Of Themselves.

Not To Identify Oneself With Something, Or To Associate Things With The 'me,' And To See That The Idea That There Is A 'me,' Which Is Distinct From Things, Is A Delusion.

Every Single Being, Even Those Who Are Hostile To Us, Is Just As Afraid Of Suffering As We Are, And Seeks Happiness In The Same Way We Do. Every Person Has The Same Right As We Do To Be Happy And Not To Suffer. So Let's Take Care Of Others Wholeheartedly, Of Both Our Friends And Our Enemies. This Is The Basis For True Compassion.

If We Have A Positive Mental Attitude, Then Even When Surrounded By Hostility, We Shall Not Lack Inner Peace.

Nothing Comes Into Being Without A Cause And When All The Conditions Are Created, There Is Nothing That Can Prevent The Consequence.

We Have To Have Some Form Of Politics. Politics Is A Form Of Resolving Conflicts. Politics Which Comes From Sincere Motivation Is Constructive.

The Source Of Peace Is Within Us; So Also The Source Of War. And The Real Enemy Is Within Us, And Not Outside. The Source Of War Is Not The Existence Of Nuclear Weapons Or Other Arms. It Is The Minds Of Human Beings Who Decide To Push The Button And To Use Those Arms Out Of Hatred, Anger Or Greed.

Love And Compassion Benefit Both Ourselves And Others. Through Kindness To Others, Your Heart And Mind Will Be Peaceful And Open.

Through Money Or Power You Cannot Solve All Problems. The Problem In The Human Heart Must Be Solved First.

Under No Circumstances Should You Lose Hope.

I Can Do What My Energy, My Time, To My Other Sort Of Commitment. And Then Also Emotional, Religious Harmony. So In These Two Field, Now That More Or Less I Think The Spirituality Or Human Values In These Fields, I May Consider My Only Professional Field. The Political, National Struggle, These Are Not My Profession.

Material Progress And A Higher Standard Of Living Bring Us Greater Comfort And Health, But Do Not Lead To A Transformation Of The Mind, Which Is The Only Thing Capable Of Providing Lasting Peace. Profound Happiness, Unlike Fleeting Pleasures, Is Spiritual In Nature. It Depends On The Happiness Of Others And It Is Based On Love And Affection.

Love, Compassion And Concern For Others Are Real Sources Of Happiness. If You Have These In Abundance, You Will Not Be Disturbed Even By The Most Uncomfortable Circumstances. If You Nurse Hatred, However, You Will Not Be Happy Even In The Lap Of Luxury. Thus, If We Really Want Happiness, We Must Widen The Sphere Of Love. This Is Both Religious Thinking And Basic Common Sense.

Whenever There Is A Challenge, There Is Also An Opportunity To Face It, To Demonstrate And Develop Our Will And Determination.

If Every 8 Year Old In The World Is Taught Meditation, We Will Eliminate Violence From The World Within One Generation

If Your Heart Has Peace, Nothing Can Disturb You.

Irrespective Of Whether We Are Believers Or Agnostics, Whether We Believe In God Or Karma, Moral Ethics Is A Code Which Everyone Is Able To Pursue.

Be A Good Human Being, A Warmhearted, Affectionate Person. That Is My Fundamental Belief.

It Is Important To Direct Our Intelligence With Good Intentions. Without Intelligence, We Cannot Accomplish Very Much. Without Good Intentions, The Way We Exercise Of Our Intelligence May Have Destructive Results.

Nowadays The World Is Becoming Increasingly Materialistic, And Mankind Is Reaching Toward The Very Zenith Of External Progress, Driven By An Insatiable Desire For Power And Vast Possessions. Some Consider Me As A Living Buddha. That's Nonsense. That's Silly. That's Wrong. If They Consider Me A Simple Buddhist Monk, However, That's Probably Okay.

Anger And Hatred Cannot Bring Harmony. The Noble Task Of Arms Control And Disarmament Cannot Be Accomplished By Confrontation And Condemnation. Hostile Attitudes Only Serve To Heat Up The Situation, Whereas A True Sense Of Respect Gradually Cools Down What Otherwise Could Become Explosive. We Must Recognize The Frequent Contradictions Between Short-term Benefit And Long-term Harm.

It Is Important That When Pursing Our Own Self-interest We Should Be 'wise Selfish' And Not 'foolish Selfish'. Being Foolish Selfish Means Pursuing Our Own Interests In A Narrow, Shortsighted Way. Being Wise Selfish Means Taking A Broader View And Recognizing That Our Own Long-term Individual Interest Lies In The Welfare Of Everyone. Being Wise Selfish Means Being Compassionate.

When Young We Have A Vivid Sense Of Basic Values Like Trust And Warm-heartedness, Which We Tend To Neglect In Today's Competitive World As We Grow Up, Yet From Birth We All Have A Need For Affection. The Emotions We Experience Today Have Not Changed Much Over The Last Few Thousand Years, But The Interest Increasing Numbers Of People Are Showing In Their Inner World And How Their Emotions Work Is A Sign Of Maturity.

When We Are Motivated By Compassion And Wisdom, The Results Of Our Actions Benefit Everyone, Not Just Our Individual Selves.

Change Only Takes Place Through Action, Not Through Meditation And Prayer.

We Humans Have Existed In Our Present Form For About A Hundred Thousand Years. I Believe That If During This Time The Human Mind Had Been Primarily Controlled By Anger And Hatred, Our Overall Population Would Have Decreased. But Today, Despite All Our Wars, We Find That The Human Population Is Greater Than Ever. This Clearly Indicates To Me That Love And Compassion Predominate In The World. And This Is Why Unpleasant Events Are "news"; Compassionate Activities Are So Much A Part Of Daily Life That They Are Taken For Granted And , Therefore, Largely Ignored.

A Good Motivation Is What Is Needed: Compassion Without Dogmatism, Without Complicated Philosophy; Just Understanding That Others Are Human Brothers And Sisters And Respecting Their Human Rights And Dignities. That We Humans Can Help Each Other Is One Of Our Unique Human Capacities.

Had Tibet Not Fallen Away From Dharma China Could Not Have Invaded.

The Quality Of Everything We Do: Our Physical Actions, Our Verbal Actions, And Even Our Mental Actions, Depends On Our Motivation. That's Why It's Important For Us To Examine Our Motivation In Our Day To Day Life. If We Cultivate Respect For Others And Our Motivation Is Sincere, If We Develop A Genuine Concern For Others’ Well-being, Then All Our Actions Will Be Positive.

In Some Places, There's The Concept Of One Religion, One Truth. In The Muslim World, There's The Notion Of Allah. The Western, Multireligious Modern Society Is Some Kind Of A Challenge To This. These, I Feel, Are The Main Causes [for Terrorism], And, When Combined With Lots Of Anger And Frustration, Cause A Huge Amount Of Hate.

By Developing A Sense Of Concern For Others' Well-being, Then No Matter What Others' Attitudes Are, You Can Keep Inner Peace.

The Only Way To Fail Is To Quit.

Spiritual Practice . . . Involves, On The One Hand, Acting Out Of Concern For Others' Well-being. On The Other, It Entails Transforming Ourselves So That We Become More Readily Disposed To Do So.

Peace, In The Sense Of The Absence Of War, Is Of Little Value To Someone Who Is Dying Of Hunger Or Cold. It Will Not Remove The Pain Of Torture Inflicted On A Prisoner Of Conscience. It Does Not Comfort Those Who Have Lost Their Loved Ones In Floods Caused By Senseless Deforestation In A Neighboring Country. Peace Can Only Last Where Human Rights Are Respected, Where The People Are Fed, And Where Individuals And Nations Are Free.

Given The Scale Of Life In The Cosmos, One Human Life Is No More Than A Tiny Blip. Each One Of Us Is A Just Visitor To This Planet, A Guest, Who Will Only Stay For A Limited Time. What Greater Folly Could There Be Than To Spend This Short Time Alone, Unhappy Or In Conflict With Our Companions? Far Better, Surely, To Use Our Short Time Here In Living A Meaningful Life, Enriched By Our Sense Of Connection With Others And Being Of Service To Them.

Although It Is Difficult To Pinpoint The Physical Base Or Location Of Awareness, It Is Perhaps The Most Precious Thing Concealed Within Our Brains. And It Is Something That The Individual Alone Can Feel And Experience. Each Of Us Cherishes It Highly, Yet It Is Private.

When Something Needs To Be Done In The World To Rectify The Wrongs, If One Is Really Concerned With Benefiting Others, One Needs To Be Engaged, Involved. This Is Action Out Of Compassion.

In Some Respects I Have Been The Most Unlucky Because I Have Spent More Time Living As A Refugee Outside My Country Than I Have Spent In Tibet. On The Other Hand, It Has Been Very Rewarding For Me To Live In A Democracy And To Learn About The World In A Way That We Tibetans Had Never Known Before.

Life Does Not Wait: Whether We Spend Our Lives Meaningfully Or Not, The Time Will Be Used Up Moment By Moment.

Any Issue, Including Political, Economic And Religious Activities Human Beings Pursue In This World, Should Be Fully Understood Before We Pass Our Judgement. Therefore, It Is Very Important To Know The Causes. Whatever The Issue, We Should Be Able To See The Complete Picture. This Will Enable Us To Comprehend The Whole Story.

A Balanced And Skillful Approach To Life, Taking Care To Avoid Extremes, Becomes A Very Important Factor In Conducting One's Everyday Existence.

When We Feel Love And Kindness Toward Others, It Not Only Makes Others Feel Loved And Cared For, But It Helps Us Also To Develop Inner Happiness And Peace.

Death And Dying Provide A Meeting-point Between The Tibetan Buddhist And Modern Scientific Traditions. I Believe Both Have A Great Deal To Contribute To Each Other On The Level Of Understanding And Of Practical Benefit.

One Who Is Caught In Thought Loses One's Original Nature. All He Knows Are Words And Descriptions. When He Sees The Actual Thing, He Fails To Perceive It.

Conversion Is Not My Intention. Changing Religion Is Not Easy. You May Develop Some Kind Of Confusion Or Difficulties.

Because We All Share An Identical Need For Love, It Is Possible To Feel That Anybody We Meet, In Whatever Circumstances, Is A Brother Or Sister. No Matter How New The Face Or How Different The Dress And Behavior, There Is No Significant Division Between Us And Other People. It Is Foolish To Dwell On External Differences, Because Our Basic Natures Are The Same.

We Have To Make A Sustained Effort, Again And Again, To Cultivate The Positive Aspects Within Us.

For Those Who May Not Find Happiness To Exercise Religious Faith, It's Okay To Remain A Radical Atheist; It's Absolutely An Individual Right, But The Important Thing Is With A Compassionate Heart - Then No Problem.

Just As You Have The Instinctive Natural Desire To Be Happy And Overcome Suffering, So Do All Sentient Beings; Just As You Have The Right To Fulfill This Innate Aspiration, So Do All Sentient Beings. So On What Exact Grounds Do You Discriminate?

Inner Darkness, Which We Call Ignorance, Is The Root Of Suffering. The More Inner Light That Comes, The More Darkness Will Diminish. This Is The Only Way To Achieve Salvation Or Nirvana.

Helping Others Is Not Limited To Providing Food, Shelter, And So Forth, But Includes Relieving The Basic Causes Of Suffering And Providing The Basic Causes Of Happiness.

If We Human Beings Rely Only On Material Development, We Can’t Be Sure Of A Positive Outcome. Employing Technology Motivated By Anger And Hatred Is Likely To Be Destructive. It Will Only Be Beneficial If We Seek The Welfare Of All Beings. Human Beings Are The Only Species With The Potential To Destroy The World. Because Of The Risks Of Unrestrained Desire And Greed We Need To Cultivate Contentment And Simplicity.

The Practice Of Love Can Be Expressed In One Sentence: 'do Not Harm Others.'

There Is Only One Important Point You Must Keep In Your Mind And Let It Be Your Guide. No Matter What People Call You, You Are Just Who You Are. Keep To This Truth. You Must Ask Yourself How Is It You Want To Live Your Life. We Live And We Die, This Is The Truth That We Can Only Face Alone. No One Can Help Us, Not Even The Buddha. So Consider Carefully, What Prevents You From Living The Way You Want To Live Your Life?

Only The Development Of Compassion And Understanding For Others Can Bring Us The Tranquility And Happiness We All Seek.
