Inner Disarmament, External Disarmament; These Must Go Together, You See. Peace Is Not Just Mere Absence Of Violence - Genuine Peace Must Start In Each Individual Heart.

The Way To Overcome Negative Thoughts And Destructive Emotions Is To Develop Opposing, Positive Emotions That Are Stronger And More Powerful.

Generosity Is The Most Natural Outward Expression Of An Inner Attitude Of Compassion And Loving-kindness .

Real Change In Society Must Start From Individual Initiative.

Every Single Being, Even Those Who Are Hostile To Us, Is Just As Afraid Of Suffering As We Are, And Seeks Happiness In The Same Way We Do. Happiness Arises As A Result Of Different Causes And Conditions. If You Harm Someone Out Of Anger, You May Feel Some Superficial Satisfaction, But Deep Down You Know It Was Wrong. Your Confidence Will Be Undermined. However, If You Have An Altruistic Attitude, You’ll Feel Comfortable And Confident In The Presence Of Others.

I Think Every Human Being, Born From Mother, And At Least The Next Few Years, You See, Received Immense Affection From Our Mother. So The Child's First Experience In This Lifetime At The Beginning, I Think That Immense Affection From Other Is In Our Blood. So Therefore, The Whole Rest Of Life, Other People Show You Smile, Genuine Sort Of Closeness Feeling. You Feel Happy. Even Animals Also Like That.

Anger, Jealousy, Impatience, And Hatred Are The Real Troublemakers, With Them Problems Cannot Be Solved.

Conservation Is Not Merely A Question Of Morality, But A Question Of Our Own Survival.

One Of The Most Effective Ways To Overcome Anxiety Is To Try To Shift The Focus Of Attention Away From Self And Toward Others. When We Succeed In This, We Find That The Scale Of Our Own Problems Diminishes. I Feel That A Genuine, Affectionate Smile Is Very Important In Our Day-to-day Lives. How One Creates That Smile Largely Depends On One's Own Attitude. It Is Illogical To Expect Smiles From Others If One Does Not Smile Oneself. Therefore, One Can See That Many Things Depend On One's Own Behaviour.

Developing Inner Values Is Much Like Physical Exercise. The More We Train Our Abilities, The Stronger They Become. The Difference Is That, Unlike The Body, When It Comes To Training The Mind, There Is No Limit To How Far We Can Go.

We Are Working As Hard As We Can; We Are Preparing Ourselves As Carefully As We Can; We Fully Intend To Make Our Contribution To The World In The Coming Century.

If You Have Religious Faith, Very Good, You Can Add On Secular Ethics, Then Religious Belief, Add On It, Very Good. But Even Those People Who Have No Interest About Religion, Okay, It's Not Religion, But You Can Train Through Education.

‎interdependence Is A Fundamental Law Of Nature. Even Tiny Insects Survive By Mutual Cooperation Based On Innate Recognition Of Their Interconnectedness. The Colors Of Light Are Infinite Through Refraction, Yet They All Come From The Same Source. Thus I Cannot Detach Myself From The Wickedest Soul, Nor Fail To Identify With The Most Virtuous.

It Is Not Just A Person's Physical Constitution, Their Intellegence, Their Education, Or Even Their Social Conditioning That Enables Them To Withstand Hardship. Much More Significant Is Their Inner Development. And While Some May Be Able To Survive Through Sheer Willpower, The Ones Who Suffer The Least Are Those Who Have A High Degree Of Patience And Courage In The Face Of Adversity.

It Seems That For Some People The Idea Of Compassion Entails A Complete Disregard For Or Even A Sacrifice Of Their Own Interests. This Is Not The Case. In Fact, You First Of All Have To Have A Wish To Be Happy Yourself - If You Don't Love Yourself Like That, How Can You Love Others?

I Think The Person Who Has Had More Experience Of Hardships Can Stand More Firmly In The Face Of Problems Than The Person Who Has Never Experienced Suffering. From This Angle Then, Some Suffering Can Be A Good Lesson For Life.

Just As Rust, Which Arose From The Iron Itself, Wears Out The Iron, Likewise, Performing An Action Without Examination Would Destroy Us By Projecting Us Into A Negative State Of Existence.

Share Your Knowledge. It Is A Way To Achieve Immortality.

If You Have A Great Deal Of Knowledge, But You're Governed By Negative Emotions, Then You Tend To Use Your Knowledge In Negative Ways. Therefore, While You Are Learning, Don't Forget The Importance Of Warmheartedness.

Just Give Food Without Showing Affection, [animals] Might Not Get Sort Of 100% Satisfaction. So They Also, You See, When We Human Beings, We Show Affection, The Poor Animal Also Respond To Us.

Therefore We Have To Make Effort Through Well Through Every Corner, Media People, Education Sort Of Institution, And Family, Parents, Everywhere. It Is Our Common Goal, Common Interest Promote More Compassion Toward The World.

There Is A Saying In Tibetan, 'tragedy Should Be Utilized As A Source Of Strength.' No Matter What Sort Of Difficulties, How Painful Experience Is, If We Lose Our Hope, That's Our Real Disaster.

If We Had To Accept The Idea Of An Independent Creator, The Explanations Given In [several Buddhist Texts] Which Completely Refutes The Existence Per Se Of All Phenomena, Would Be Negated.

It Is Our Custom To Say That Someone Is 'lucky' Or 'unlucky' If They Meet With Fortunate Or Unfortunate Circumstances, Respectively. It Is, However, Too Simplistic To Think In Terms Of Random 'luck.' Even From A Scientific Point Of View, This Is Not A Sufficient Explanation.

I Have Never Been Any Place Where I Was Not First Invited. And Upon Invitation, If I Feel That There Is Potential For Making Some Contribution To Humanity, I Will Comply In Spite Of Being Tired.

For The Rest Of Your Life To Be As Meaningful As Possible, Engage In Spiritual Practice If You Can. It Is Nothing More Than Acting Out Of Concern For Others. If You Practice Sincerely And With Persistence, Little By Little, Step By Step You Will Gradually Reorder Your Habits And Attitudes So As To Think Less About Your Own Narrow Concerns And More About Others' - And Thereby Find Peace And Happiness Yourself.

Because Of The Great Differences In Our Ways Of Thinking, It Is Inevitable That We Have Different Religions And Faiths. Each Has Its Own Beauty. And It Is Much Better That We Live Together On The Basis Of Mutual Respect And Mutual Admiration.

Each Of You Should Feel That You Have Great Potential And That, With Self-confidence And A Little More Effort, Change Really Is Possible If You Want It. If You Feel That Your Present Way Of Life Is Unpleasant Or Has Some Difficulties, Then Don't Look At These Negative Things. See The Positive Side, The Potential, And Make An Effort.

Even Modern Medical Researchers Have Come To The Conclusion That Peace Of Mind Is Vital For Good Health.

My Call For A Spiritual Revolution Is Not A Call For A Religious Revolution. Nor Is It A Reference To A Way Of Life That Is Somehow Otherworldly, Still Less To Something Magical Or Mysterious. Rather It Is A Call For A Radical Reorientation Away From Our Habitual Preoccupation With Self. It Is A Call To Turn Toward The Wider Community Of Beings With Whom We Are Connected, And For Conduct Which Recognizes Others' Interests Alongside Our Own.

Look At South Africa, The Former Soviet Union, And The Middle East. They Still Have Many Problems, Setbacks As Well As Breakthroughs, But Basically Changes Have Happened That Were Considered Unthinkable A Decade Ago.

Happiness Is The Highest Form Of Health.

Human Beings Are Not Intrinsically Selfish, Which Isolates Us From Others. We Are Essentially Social Animals Who Depend On Others To Meet Our Needs. We Achieve Happiness, Prosperity And Progress Through Social Interaction. Therefore, Having A Kind And Helpful Attitude Contributes To Our Own And Others' Happiness.

Today We Face Many Problems. Some Are Created Essentially By Ourselves Based On Divisions Due To Ideology, Religion, Race, Economic Status, Or Other Factors. Therefore, The Time Has Come For Us To Think On A Deeper Level, On The Human Level, And From That Level We Should Appreciate And Respect The Sameness Of Others As Human Beings.

For Tibetans, The Real Strength Of Our Struggle Is Truth - Not Size, Money, Or Expertise. China Is Much Bigger, Richer, More Powerful Militarily, And Has Much Better Skill In Diplomacy. They Outdo Us In Every Field. But They Have No Justice. We Have Placed Our Whole Faith In Truth And In Justice. We Have Nothing Else, In Principle And In Practice.

There Is Often A Big Disparity Between The Way In Which We Perceive Things And The Way Things Really Are.

Different People Describe Me In A Different Ways. Some Describe Me As The Living Buddha. Nonsense. Some Describe Me As 'god-king.' Nonsense. Some Consider Me As A Demon Or A Wolf In Buddhist Robes. That Also, I Think Nonsense.

It Is The State Of Mind Of The Person Wielding The Instrument That Determines To What End It Will Be Put.

Never Give Up. No Matter What Is Happening, No Matter What Is Going On Around You, Never Give Up.

My Religion Is Kindness.

We Must Work To Resolve Conflicts In A Spirit Of Reconciliation And Always Keep In Mind The Interests Of Others. We Cannot Destroy Our Neighours! We Cannot Ignore Their Interests!

Live A Good, Honourable Life. Then When You Get Older And Look Back, You'll Be Able To Enjoy It A Second Time.

You Have To Start Giving First And Expect Absolutely Nothing.

The Time Has Come To Educate People, To Cease All Quarrels In The Name Of Religion, Culture, Countries, Different Political Or Economic Systems. Fighting Is Useless. Suicide.

Many People Think That Patience Is A Sign Of Weakness. I Think This Is A Mistake. It Is Anger That Is A Sign Of Weakness, Whereas Patience Is A Sign Of Strength

We Must Each Lead A Way Of Life With Self-awareness And Compassion, To Do As Much As We Can. Then, Whatever Happens We Will Have No Regrets.

Whether We Consider The Individual, Family, Local, National Or International Level, Peace Must Arise From Inner Peace. For Example, Making Prayers For Peace While Continuing To Harbor Anger Is Futile. Training The Mind And Overcoming Your Anger Is Much More Effective Than Mere Prayer. Anger, Hatred And Jealousy Never Solve Problems, Only Affection, Concern And Respect Can Do That.

You Must Not Hate Those Who Do Wrong Or Harmful Things; But With Compassion, You Must Do What You Can To Stop Them — For They Are Harming Themselves, As Well As Those Who Suffer From Their Actions.

The Most Important Thing Is Practice In Daily Life; Then You Can Know Gradually The True Value Of Religion. Doctrine Is Not Meant For Mere Knowledge, But For The Improvement Of Our Minds. In Order To Do That, It Must Be Part Of Our Life. If You Put Religious Doctrine In A Building And When You Leave The Building Depart From The Practices, You Cannot Gain Its Value.

The Way To Change Others' Minds Is With Affection, And Not Anger.

Overcoming Negative Tendencies And Enhancing Positive Potential Are The Very Essence Of The Spiritual Path.

Death And Dying Provide A Meeting-point Between The Tibetan Buddhist And Modern Scientific Traditions. I Believe Both Have A Great Deal To Contribute To Each Other On The Level Of Understanding And Of Practical Benefit.

We Can Never Obtain Peace In The Outer World Until We Make Peace With Ourselves.

Look At Children. Of Course They May Quarrel, But Generally Speaking They Do Not Harbor Ill Feelings As Much Or As Long As Adults Do. Most Adults Have The Advantage Of Education Over Children, But What Is The Use Of An Education If They Show A Big Smile While Hiding Negative Feelings Deep Inside? Children Don�t Usually Act In Such A Manner. If They Feel Angry With Someone, They Express It, And Then It Is Finished. They Can Still Play With That Person The Following Day.

If You Help Others With Sincere Motivation And Sincere Concern, That Will Bring You More Fortune, More Friends, More Smiles, And More Success. If You Forget About Others' Rights And Neglect Others' Welfare, Ultimately You Will Be Very Lonely.

Compassion Seems To Be The Greatest Power.

Hard Times Build Determination And Inner Strength. Through Them We Can Also Come To Appreciate The Uselessness Of Anger.

In The Present Circumstances, No One Can Afford To Assume That Someone Else Will Solve Their Problems. Every Individual Has A Responsibility To Help Guide Our Global Family In The Right Direction. Good Wishes Are Not Sufficient; We Must Become Actively Engaged.

I Always Emphasize That It Is Much Safer And Better To Keep One's Own Religious Faith. The Other Major Religions Are Thousands Of Years Old And Have Long Traditions.

People Should Never Sit Alone For Too Long When They're Crying.

Disagreement Is Something Normal.

Delusions Are States Of Mind Which, When They Arise Within Our Mental Continuum, Leave Us Disturbed, Confused And Unhappy. Therefore, Those States Of Mind Which Delude Or Afflict Us Are Called 'delusions.'

When A Certain Community Is Destroyed, In Reality It Destroys A Part Of All Of Us. So There Should Be A Clear Recognition That The Entire Humanity Is Just One Family. Any Conflict Within Humanity Should Be Considered As A Family Conflict. We Must Find A Solution Within This Atmosphere.

I Think Mischievous People Always There, ... Some Kind Of Perfect World, That Is Impossible. Accept That Reality. (for) Those People Who Have Genuine Concern About Humanity, Make Some Effort-better Than None.

Though We May Have Temporary Success, Ultimately Our Hatred Or Anger Will Create Futher Difficulties. Anger Makes For Swift Solutions. Yet, When We Face Problems With Compassion, Sincerity, And Good Motivation, Our Solutions May Take Longer, But Ultimately They Are Better.

The Beautiful Plants Become As If Dead And We Do Not Feel Very Happy. Why? I Think It Is Because Deep Down Our Human Nature Likes Construction, And Does Not Like Destruction. Naturally, Every Action Which Is Destructive Is Against Human Nature. Constructiveness Is The Human Way. Therefore, I Think That In Terms Of Basic Human Feeling, Violence Is Not Good. Non-violence Is The Only Way.

Many Tibetans Sacrifice Their Lives.

We Need To Strengthen Such Inner Values As Contentment, Patience And Tolerance, As Well As Compassion For Others. Keeping In Mind That It Is Expressions Of Affection Rather Than Money And Power That Attract Real Friends, Compassion Is The Key To Ensuring Our Own Well-being.

I Believe That The Very Purpose Of Life Is To Be Happy. From The Very Core Of Our Being, We Desire Contentment. In My Own Limited Experience I Have Found That The More We Care For The Happiness Of Others, The Greater Is Our Own Sense Of Well-being.

Sometimes We Feel That One Individual's Action Is Very Insignificant. Then We Think, Of Course, That Effects Should Come From Channeling Or From A Unifying Movement. But The Movement Of The Society, Community Or Group Of People Means Joining Individuals. Society Means A Collection Of Individuals, So That Initiative Must Come From Individuals. Unless Each Individual Develops A Sense Of Responsibility, The Whole Community Cannot Move. So Therefore, It Is Very Essential That We Should Not Feel That Individual Effort Is Meaningless- You Should Not Feel That Way. We Should Make An Effort.

Someone Else's Action Should Not Determine Your Response.

All I Can Do Is Engage With Complete Sincerity. Then Whatever Happens, There Is No Regret.

Don't Be A Person Of Success, Be A Person Of Value.

Affection Is Important Because It Counters Anger, Hatred And Suspicion That Can Prevent Our Minds From Functioning Clearly.

Universal Responsibility Is The Key To Human Survival. It Is The Best Foundation For World Peace.

Change Only Takes Place Through Action, Not Through Meditation And Prayer.

Tibetans Must Take Full Authority And Responsibility For Developing Industry, Looking From All Different Perspectives, Taking Care Of The Environment, Conserving Resources For Long-term Economic Health, And Safeguarding The Interests Of Tibetan Workers, Nomads, And Farmers.

Anger And Hatred Cannot Bring Harmony. The Noble Task Of Arms Control And Disarmament Cannot Be Accomplished By Confrontation And Condemnation. Hostile Attitudes Only Serve To Heat Up The Situation, Whereas A True Sense Of Respect Gradually Cools Down What Otherwise Could Become Explosive. We Must Recognize The Frequent Contradictions Between Short-term Benefit And Long-term Harm.
