We Can Never Obtain Peace In The World If We Neglect The Inner World And Don't Make Peace With Ourselves. World Peace Must Develop Out Of Inner Peace. Genuine Happiness

In Order To Be Happy We Must First Possess Inner Contentment; And Inner Contentment Doesn't Come From Having All We Want; But Rather From Wanting And Appreciating Being Grateful For All We Have.

Attachment Constrains Our Vision So That We Are Not Able To See Things From A Wider Perspective.

Peace, In The Sense Of The Absence Of War, Is Of Little Value To Someone Who Is Dying Of Hunger Or Cold. It Will Not Remove The Pain Of Torture Inflicted On A Prisoner Of Conscience. It Does Not Comfort Those Who Have Lost Their Loved Ones In Floods Caused By Senseless Deforestation In A Neighboring Country. Peace Can Only Last Where Human Rights Are Respected, Where The People Are Fed, And Where Individuals And Nations Are Free.

As Human Beings We Are All The Same. We Have This Marvelous Intelligence, Which Sometimes Creates Problems For Us, But When Influenced By Warm-heartedness Can Be Very Constructive. In This Context We Need To Appreciate The Value Of Having Moral Principles.

Sometimes People Feel Mind Is Merely The - In Some Animal, The Energy Or Something From The Brain. Now There Are Little Sort Of Curiosities Or I Think Doubt Sometimes A Sheer Sort Of Mental Attitude, Some Change In Our Brain. So These Fields, Now Scientists Are Showing Some Interest.

Certain Beliefs Must Accompany Every Action: One Should Act Without Selfishness, Cultivate Compassion For All Living Things, And Develop Respect For Others.

The More Adept We Become At Cultivating An Altruistic Attitude, The Happier We Will Feel And The More Comfortable Will Be The Atmosphere Around Us. But If Our Emotions Fluctuate Wildly And We Easily Give In To Hatred And Jealousy, Even Our Friends Will Avoid Us. So Even For People With No Spiritual Beliefs, It Is Important To Have A Peaceful Mind.

My Earnest Request Is That You Practice Love And Kindness Whether You Believe In A Religion Or Not

Peace And The Survival Of Life On Earth As We Know It Are Threatened By Human Activities Which Lack A Commitment To Humanitarian Values. Destruction Of Nature And Nature's Resources Result From Ignorance, Greed And Lack Of Respect For The Earth's Living Things.

When We Face Problems Or Disagreements Today, We Have To Arrive At Solutions Through Dialogue. Dialogue Is The Only Appropriate Method. One-sided Victory Is No Longer Acceptable. We Must Work To Resolve Conflicts In A Spirit Of Reconciliation And Always Keep In Mind The Interests Of Others.

Some People Automatically Associate Morality And Altruism With A Religious Vision Of The World. But I Believe It Is A Mistake To Think That Morality Is An Attribute Only Of Religion. We Can Imagine Two Types Of Spirituality: One Tied To Religion, While The Other Arises Spontaneously In The Human Heart As An Expression Of Love For Our Neighbors And A Desire To Do Them Good.

The Mind Is Key. If Anything Should Be Considered A God, So To Speak, It Is The Mind, Not Money. A Healthy Positive Mind Is The Utmost Priority. But If We Were To Reverse The Order Of These Priorities, What Would Happen? I Find It Hard To Imagine How A Person With Great Wealth, Bad Health, No Friends, And No Peace Of Mind Could Feel Even Slightly Happy.

My Belief Is That The Various Religious Traditions Have Great Potential To Increase Compassion, The Sense Of Caring For One Another, And The Spirit Of Reconciliation. However, I Believe That A Human Being, Without Religious Faith, Can Be A Very Good Person - Sincere, A Good Heart, Having A Sense Of Concern For Others - Without Belief In A Particular Religious Faith.

Basically, A Human Being Is A Social Animal. So, If You Create Some Short Moment Of Happiness For People, You Get Deep Satisfaction.

You Must Lead A Good Life. And A Good Life Does Not Mean Just Good Food, Good Clothes, Good Shelter. These Are Not Sufficient. A Good Motivation Is What Is Needed: Compassion, Without Dogmatism, Without Complicated Philosophy; Just Understanding That Others Are Human Brothers And Sisters And Respecting Their Rights And Human Dignity.

By Far The Single Greatest Danger Facing Humankind - In Fact, All Living Beings On Our Planet - Is The Threat Of Nuclear Destruction.

All Beings Come From A Mother's Womb. We Should Have A Clear Realization Of The Oneness Of All Humanity.

Forming A New World Religion Is Difficult And Not Particularly Desirable. However, In That Love Is Essential To All Religions, One Could Speak Of The Universal Religion Of Love.

I Hold The View That Death Is Rather Like Changing One's Clothes When They Are Torn And Old. It Is Not An End In Itself. Yet Death Is Unpredictable-you Do Not Know When And Howt It Will Take Place.

Many Problems That Confront Us Today Are Created By Man, Whether They Are Violent Conflicts, Destruction Of The Environment, Poverty Or Hunger. These Problems Can Be Resolved Thanks To Human Efforts By Understanding That We Are Brother And Sister And By Developing This Sense Of Closeness. The Source Of Peace Is Within Us; So Also The Source Of War. And The Real Enemy Is Within Us, And Not Outside. The Source Of War Is Not The Existence Of Nuclear Weapons Or Other Arms. It Is The Minds Of Human Beings Who Decide To Push The Button And To Use Those Arms Out Of Hatred, Anger Or Greed.

When You Realize You've Made A Mistake, Take Immediate Steps To Correct It.

Take Into Account That Great Love And Great Achievements Involve Great Risk.

Anger May Bring Extra Energy, But It Eclipses The Best Part Of Our Brain: Its Rationality. The Energy Of Anger Is Almost Always Unreliable.

Without Your Own Effort It Is Impossible For Blessings To Come.

It's Unrealistic To Think That The Future Of Humanity Can Be Achieved Only On The Basis Of Prayer; What We Need Is To Take Action.

Sensory Experience Does Not Offset The Intense Pain Or Pleasure We Feel On A Mental Level; It May Distract Us, But Doesn't Overcome It. On The Other Hand, If We Have Peace Of Mind, Even Negative Experiences Do Not Upset Us. Peace Of Mind Is Also Good For Our Physical Health. Medical Experts Have Found That Anger, Hatred And Fear Eat Into Our Immune System. Being Calm And Relaxed Is Better For Our Physical Well-being.

Don't Try To Use What You Learn From Buddhism To Be A Buddhist; Use It To Be A Better Whatever-you-al Ready-are.

More Often Than Not, Anger Is Actually An Indication Of Weakness Rather Than Of Strength.

We Need To Employ A Secular Approach To Ethics, Secular In The Indian Sense Of Respecting All Religious Traditions And Even The Views Of Non-believers In An Unbiased Way. Secular Ethics Rooted In Scientific Findings, Common Experience And Common Sense Can Easily Be Introduced Into The Secular Education System. If We Can Do That There Is A Real Prospect Of Making This 21st Century An Era Of Peace And Compassion.

If We Choose An External Marker As The Measure Of Our Inner Worth, Whether It Is The Amount Of Money We Make, Or Others' Opinion Of Us, Or The Success Of Some Project We're Involved In, Sooner Or Later We're Bound To Be Battered By Life's Inevitable Changes. After All, Money Comes And Goes, And Thus Is An Unstable Source Of Self-esteem, An Unreliable Foundation Upon Which To Build Our Identity.

If One Assumes A Humble Attitude, One's Own Good Qualities Will Increase. Whereas If One Is Proud, One Will Become Jealous Of Others, One Will Look Down On Others, And Due To That There Will Be Unhappiness In Society.

If The Basic Human Nature Was Aggressive, We Would Have Been Born With Animal Claws & Huge Teeth -- But Ours Are Very Short, Very Pretty, Very Weak! That Means We Are Not Well Equipped To Be Aggressive Beings. Even The Size Of Our Mouth Is Very Small. So I Think The Basic Nature Of Human Beings Should Be Gentle.

A Good Motivation Is What Is Needed: Compassion Without Dogmatism, Without Complicated Philosophy; Just Understanding That Others Are Human Brothers And Sisters And Respecting Their Human Rights And Dignities. That We Humans Can Help Each Other Is One Of Our Unique Human Capacities.

Each Of Us In Our Own Way Can Try To Spread Compassion Into People's Hearts. Western Civilizations These Days Place Great Importance On Filling The Human Brain With Knowledge, But No One Seems To Care About Filling The Human Heart With Compassion. This Is What The Real Role Of Religion Is.

I Often Tease Young People About Their Concern For How They Look; More Important Is Inner Beauty - Compassion, Affection And Respect.

We Need A Little More Compassion, And If We Cannot Have It, Then No Politician Or Even A Magician Can Save The Planet.

If Indeed The Qualities Such As Love, Patience, Tolerance, And Forgiveness Are What Happiness Consists In, And If It Is Also True That Compassion, Defined As Concern For Others, Is Both The Source And The Fruit Of These Qualities, Then The More We Are Compassionate, The More We Provide For Our Own Happiness.

In Order To Satisfy One Human Stomach, So Many Lives Are Taken Away. We Must Promote Vegetarianism. It Is Extremely Important.

If Through Practice Of Insight You Develop A Sense Of Ease, Then Time Has No Relevance. If You're Miserable, Time Does Matter. It's So Unbearable, So Enormous You Want To Get Out Of It As Soon As Possible.

Unlike Physical Progress, Which Is Subject To Natural Restrictions, The Qualities Of The Mind Can Be Developed Limitlessly.

When We Have Inner Peace, We Can Be At Peace With Those Around Us. When Our Community Is In A State Of Peace, It Can Share That Peace With Neighboring Communities.

We All Need Basic Human Values Rooted In Trust And Affection.

The Jealousy That Arises From Another's Achievement Is Overcome By Developing An Awareness Of And Admiration For One's Own And Other's Achievement.

Be Kind Whenever Possible. It Is Always Possible.

We Cannot Hope To Die Peacefully If Our Lives Have Been Full Of Violence, Or If Our Minds Have Mostly Been Agitated By Emotions Like Anger, Attachment, Or Fear. So If We Wish To Die Well, We Must Learn How To Live Well: Hoping For A Peaceful Death, We Must Cultivate Peace In Our Mind, And In Our Way Of Life.

Because The Twentieth Century Was A Century Of Violence, Let Us Make The Twenty-first A Century Of Dialogue.

I Consider Non-violence To Be Compassion In Action. It Doesn’t Mean Weakness, Cowering In Fear, Or Simply Doing Nothing. It Is To Act Without Violence, Motivated By Compassion, Recognising The Rights Of Others.

In Order To Do That, It Must Be Part Of Our Life. If You Put Religious Doctrine In A Building And When You Leave The Building Depart From The Practices, You Cannot Gain Its Value.

Compassion Is Concern Of Others' Well Being.

As Far As Your Personal Requirements Are Concerned, The Ideal Is To Have Fewer Involvements, Fewer Obligations, And Fewer Affairs, Business Or Whatever. However, So Far As The Interest Of The Larger Community Is Concerned, You Must Have As Many Involvements As Possible And As Many Activities As Possible.

What I Believe, According To My Own Experience, Is That A Calm, Peaceful Mind Is A Very Important Element For Sustaining The Body In A Balanced Way.

Now Is The Time When Your Action Is Practice.

Without Changing One's Self, Without Peace In One's Self, World Peace Is Not Possible.

There Is Only One Important Point You Must Keep In Your Mind And Let It Be Your Guide. No Matter What People Call You, You Are Just Who You Are. Keep To This Truth. You Must Ask Yourself How Is It You Want To Live Your Life. We Live And We Die, This Is The Truth That We Can Only Face Alone. No One Can Help Us, Not Even The Buddha. So Consider Carefully, What Prevents You From Living The Way You Want To Live Your Life?

If We Are Demoralized, Sad And Only Complain, We’ll Not Solve Our Problems. If We Only Pray For A Solution, We’ll Not Solve Our Problems. We Need To Face Them, To Deal With Them Without Violence, But With Confidence - And Never Give Up. If You Adopt A Non-violent Approach, But Are Also Hesitant Within, You’ll Not Succeed. You Have To Have Confidence And Keep Up Your Efforts - In Other Words, Never Give Up.

Spiritual Practice . . . Involves, On The One Hand, Acting Out Of Concern For Others' Well-being. On The Other, It Entails Transforming Ourselves So That We Become More Readily Disposed To Do So.

The Universe Is A Single Atom: The Convergence Of Science And Spirituality.

What Is The Relationship Between Spirituality And Ethical Practice? Since Love And Compassion And Similar Qualities All, By Definition, Presume Some Level Of Concern For Others' Well-being, They Presume Ethical Restraint. We Cannot Be Loving And Compassionate Unless At The Same Time We Curb Our Own Harmful Impulses And Desires.

Cultivating A Close, Warmhearted Feeling For Others Automatically Puts The Mind At Ease. It Helps Remove Whatever Fears Or Insecurities We May Have And Gives Us The Strength To Cope With Any Obstacles We Encounter.

Afflictive Emotions - Our Jealousy, Anger, Hatred, Fear - Can Be Put To An End. When You Realize That These Emotions Are Only Temporary, That They Always Pass On Like Clouds In The Sky, You Also Realize They Can Ultimately Be Abandoned.

The Practice Of Altruism Is The Authentic Way To Live As A Human Being, And It Is Not Just For Religious People. As Human Beings, Our Purpose Is To Live Meaningful Lives, To Develop A Warm Heart. There Is Meaning In Being Everyone's Friend. The Real Source Of Peace Amongst Our Families, Friends And Neighbours Is Love And Compassion.

The Way To Develop Inner Peace Through Meditation Begins With The Recognition That The Destroyer Of Inner Peace Is Not Some External Foe, But Is Within Us. Therefore, The Solution Is Within Us Too. However, That Inner Change Does Not Take Place Immediately In The Way That We Switch On A Light, But Takes Weeks, Months And Years.

The Problem Isn't Materialism As Such. Rather It Is The Underlying Assumption That Full Satisfaction Can Arise From Gratifying The Senses Alone. Unlike Animals Whose Quest For Happiness Is Restricted To Survival And To The Immediate Gratification Of Sensory Desires, We Human Beings Have The Capacity To Experience Happiness At A Deeper Level Which, When Achieved, Can Overwhelm Unhappy Experiences.

We Need Material Development, But We Need To Understand That By Itself It Doesn't Bring Peace Of Mind.

The Other Is More Social, More Public. When Something Needs To Be Done In The World To Rectify The Wrongs, If One Is Really Concerned With Benefitting Others, One Needs To Be Engaged, Involved.

I Do Not See Any Reason Why Animals Should Be Slaughtered To Serve As Human Diet When There Are So Many Substitutes. After All, Man Can Live Without Meat. It Is Only Some Carnivorous Animals That Have To Subsist On Flesh. Killing Animals For Sport, For Pleasure, For Adventures, And For Hides And Furs Is A Phenomenon Which Is At Once Disgusting And Distressing. There Is No Justification In Indulging In Such Acts Of Brutality . . . Life Is As Dear To A Mute Creature As It Is To A Man. Just As One Wants Happiness And Fears Pain, Just As One Wants To Live And Not To Die, So Do Other Creatures.

If You Don't Love Yourself, You Cannot Love Others. You Will Not Be Able To Love Others. If You Have No Compassion For Yourself Then You Are Not Able Of Developing Compassion For Others.

There Are Two Kinds Of Happiness - The Temporary Pleasure Derived Primarily From Material Comfort Alone And Another More Enduring Comfort That Results From The Thorough Transformation And Development Of The Mind. We Can See In Our Own Lives That The Latter Form Of Happiness Is Superior Because When Our Mental State Is Calm And Happy, We Can Easily Put Up With Minor Pains And Physical Discomforts. On The Other Hand, When Our Mind Is Restless And Upset, The Most Comfortable Physical Facilities Do Not Make Us Happy.
