It Is Important That When Pursing Our Own Self-interest We Should Be 'wise Selfish' And Not 'foolish Selfish'. Being Foolish Selfish Means Pursuing Our Own Interests In A Narrow, Shortsighted Way. Being Wise Selfish Means Taking A Broader View And Recognizing That Our Own Long-term Individual Interest Lies In The Welfare Of Everyone. Being Wise Selfish Means Being Compassionate.

Basically We Are All The Same Human Beings With The Same Potential To Be A Good Human Being Or A Bad Human Being. The Important Thing Is To Realize The Positive Side And Try To Increase That; Realize The Negative Side And Try To Reduce. That's The Way.

To Me There Is No Difference Whether President, Beggar, Or King.

One Mongolian Leader Became A Very, Very Brutal Dictator And Eventually Became A Murderer. Previously, He Was A Monk, And Then He Became A Revolutionary. Under The Influence Of His New Ideology, He Actually Killed His Own Teacher. Pol Pot's Family Background Was Buddhist. Whether He Himself Was A Buddhist At A Young Age, I Don't Know. We Need To Employ A Secular Approach To Ethics, Secular In The Indian Sense Of Respecting All Religious Traditions And Even The Views Of Non-believers In An Unbiased Way. Secular Ethics Rooted In Scientific Findings, Common Experience And Common Sense Can Easily Be Introduced Into The Secular Education System. If We Can Do That There Is A Real Prospect Of Making This 21st Century An Era Of Peace And Compassion.

I Don't Think Human Affection And Compassion Are Just Religious Concerns; They're Indispensable Factors In Our Day-to-day Lives.

Where There Is A Mind, There Are Feelings Such As Pain, Pleasure, And Joy. No Sentient Being Wants Pain: All Wants Happiness Instead.

Because We All Share An Identical Need For Love, It Is Possible To Feel That Anybody We Meet, In Whatever Circumstances, Is A Brother Or Sister.

If You Have A Particular Faith Or Religion, That Is Good. But You Can Survive Without It.

What I Believe, According To My Own Experience, Is That A Calm, Peaceful Mind Is A Very Important Element For Sustaining The Body In A Balanced Way.

If Someone Remains In A Peaceful And Tranquil State Of Mind, External Surroundings Can Cause Them Only A Limited Disturbance.

Basically, The Buddhist Attitude Is That You Should Not Accept Certain Things Through Sheer Faith. And For That You Need A Skeptical Attitude. Buddha Himself Made This Clear To His Followers. He Said You Should Not Accept Those Things I Taught Out Of Respect For Me, But Rather Through Investigation By Yourself.

I Feel That The Essence Of Spiritual Practice Is Your Attitude Toward Others. When You Have A Pure, Sincere Motivation, Then You Have Right Attitude Toward Others Based On Kindness, Compassion, Love And Respect.

As Human, We All Have The Same Human Potential, Unless There Is Some Sort Of Retarded Brain Function. The Wonderful Human Brain Is The Source Of Our Strength And The Source Of Our Future, Provided We Utilize It In The Right Direction. If We Use The Brilliant Human Mind In The Wrong Way, It Is Really A Disaster.

Those Who Don't Have A Life Filled With Luxury May Have A Home Filled With Compassion, Based On Their Choice To Be Content And To Practice Self-discipline. Even When We Have Physical Hardships, We Can Be Very Happy.

Time Passes Unhindered. When We Make Mistakes, We Cannot Turn The Clock Back And Try Again. All We Can Do Is Use The Present Well.

In Order To Lead A Meaningful Life, You Need To Cherish Others, Pay Attention To Human Values And Try To Cultivate Inner Peace.

Real Power Has To Do With One's Ability To Influence The Hearts And Minds Of Others.

Constructiveness Is The Human Way.

When We Are Young And Again When We Are Old, We Depend Heavily On The Affection Of Others. Between These Stages We Usually Feel That We Can Do Everything Without Help From Others And That Other People's Affection Is Simply Not Important. But At This Stage I Think It Is Very Important To Keep Deep Human Affection.

The More We Feel Concern For Others And Seek Their Well-being, The More Friends We Will Have And The More Welcome We Will Feel.

Religion Is Important For Humanity, But It Should Evolve With Humanity. The First Priority Is To Establish And Develop The Principle Of Pluralism In All Religious Traditions. If We, The Religious Leaders, Cultivate A Sincere Pluralistic Attitude, Then Everything Will Be More Simple. It Is Good That Most Religious Leaders Are At Least Beginning To Recognize Other Traditions, Even Though They May Not Approve Of Them. The Next Step Is To Accept That The Idea Of Propagating Religion Is Outdated. It No Longer Suits The Times.

Compassion Is The Wish For Another Being To Be Free From Suffering; Love Is Wanting Them To Have Happiness.

Nowadays The World Is Becoming Increasingly Materialistic, And Mankind Is Reaching Toward The Very Zenith Of External Progress, Driven By An Insatiable Desire For Power And Vast Possessions. Yet By This Vain Striving For Perfection In A World Where Everything Is Relative,they Wander Even Further Away From Inward Peace And Happiness Of The Mind.

On Love, Not Harming Others, And Respecting All Beings. Even Animals Have These Elements In Their Behavioral Patterns. We Should Start By Observing How Animals Act. They Are Honest And Appreciate It When We Are Honest With Them. If You Present Something Nice To An Animal In One Hand While Hiding A Rope In The Other, The Creature Will Know Your Intention. Yet Animals Have No Religion, No Constitution. Basic Nature Has Endowed Them With The Faculty Of Discernment. It Is The Same For Humans.

Sometimes We Feel That One Individual's Action Is Very Insignificant. Then We Think, Of Course, That Effects Should Come From Channeling Or From A Unifying Movement. But The Movement Of The Society, Community Or Group Of People Means Joining Individuals. Society Means A Collection Of Individuals, So That Initiative Must Come From Individuals. Unless Each Individual Develops A Sense Of Responsibility, The Whole Community Cannot Move. So Therefore, It Is Very Essential That We Should Not Feel That Individual Effort Is Meaningless- You Should Not Feel That Way. We Should Make An Effort.

At A Fundamental Level, As Human Beings, We Are All The Same; Each One Of Us Aspires To Happiness And Each One Of Us Does Not Wish To Suffer. This Is Why, Whenever I Have The Opportunity, I Try To Draw People's Attention To What As Members Of The Human Family We Have In Common And The Deeply Interconnected Nature Of Our Existence And Welfare.

The Past Is Past, And The Future Is Yet To Come. That Means The Future Is In Your Hands - The Future Entirely Depends On The Present. That Realization Gives You A Great Responsibility.

If A Person's Basic State Of Mind Is Serene And Calm, Then It Is Possible For This Inner Peace To Overwhelm A Painful Physical Experience.

Scientists Are Coming To Recognise The Effects Of The Mind On Physical Health. The Sense Of Relaxation Associated With Inner Peace Involves Not Only Being Physically At Ease. If You Are Nagged By Worry Or Seething With Anger, You’re Not Really Relaxed. The Key To Relaxation Is Peace Of Mind. The Relaxation Gained From Alcohol, Drugs Or Just Listening To Music May Seem Attractive, But It Doesn’t Last.

My Earnest Request Is That You Practice Love And Kindness Whether You Believe In A Religion Or Not

To Help Us Bring Benefit To Others Through Our Words And Actions, It Is Useful To Cultivate An Attitude Of Sympathetic Joy In Others’ Achievements And Good Fortune. This Attitude Is A Powerful Antidote Against Envy, Which Is Not Only A Source Of Unnecessary Suffering On The Individual Level But Also An Obstacle To Our Ability To Reach Out And Engage With Others.

World Peace Begins With Inner Peace.

In My Mind Of Course Natural Disaster Like Tsunami, And These Things, Also I Think Indirectly May Relate To Human Behavior. But Then Major Sort Of Problems Actually They're Due To A Lack Of Moral Principle.

We Are The Creators Of Our Own Happiness And Suffering, For Everything Originates In The Mind.

Cultivating A Close, Warmhearted Feeling For Others Automatically Puts The Mind At Ease. It Helps Remove Whatever Fears Or Insecurities We May Have And Gives Us The Strength To Cope With Any Obstacles We Encounter.

Firstly, As A Buddhist Monk, I Hold That Violence Is Not Good. Secondly, I Am A Firm Believer In The Gandian Ethic Of Passive Resistance. And Thirdly, In Reality, Violence Is Not Our Strength.

Being Concerned About Other People Is Especially Relevant In Today's World. If We Consider The Complex Inter-connected Ness Of Our Modern Lives, How We Depend On Others And Others Depend On Us, Our Outlook Will Change. We’ll Begin To See 'others' Not As Somehow Distant From Us, But As People We Are In Touch With, People Close To Us; We Will No Longer Feel Indifferent To Them.

Spend Some Amount Of Time Alone Everyday.

The Goal Is Not To Be Better Than The Other Man, But Your Previous Self.

We Had A Rule In Tibet That Anyone Proposing A New Invention Had To Guarentee That It Was Beneficial, Or At Least Harmless, For Seven Generations Of Humans Before It Could Be Adopted.

We Can't Be Useful To Ourselves Unless We're Useful To Others .... Anyone Concerned Only By His Own Well-being Will Suffer Eventually. The Beautiful Plants Become As If Dead And We Do Not Feel Very Happy. Why? I Think It Is Because Deep Down Our Human Nature Likes Construction, And Does Not Like Destruction. Naturally, Every Action Which Is Destructive Is Against Human Nature. Constructiveness Is The Human Way. Therefore, I Think That In Terms Of Basic Human Feeling, Violence Is Not Good. Non-violence Is The Only Way.

As Our Own Peace Of Mind Grows, So The Atmosphere Around Us Becomes More Peaceful.
