The Bible Is Not A Book That You Can Open And Say, 'now, Lord, Put Some Magic Into My Soul That Will Open Up The Meaning Of This Book.' There Is Only One Way Really To Understand The Word, And That Is Through Wrestling With The Circumstances And Happenings Of Life.

We Think Rightly Or Wrongly About Prayer According To The Conception We Have In Our Minds Of Prayer. If We Think Of Prayer As The Breath In Our Lungs And The Blood From Our Hearts, We Think Rightly. The Blood Flows Ceaselessly, And Breathing Continues Ceaselessly; We Are Not Conscious Of It, But It Is Always Going On. Prayer Is The Exercise Of Drawing On The Grace Of God.

We Trample The Blood Of The Son Of God Underfoot If We Think We Are Forgiven Because We Are Sorry For Our Sins.

The Greatest Need We Have Is Not To Do Things, But To Believe Things.

Prayer Is Often A Temptation To Bank On A Miracle Of God Instead Of On A Moral Issue, I.e., It Is Much Easier To Ask God To Do My Work Than It Is To Do It Myself. Never Water Down The Word Of God, But Preach It In Its Undiluted Sternness. There Must Be Unflinching Faithfulness To The Word Of God, But When You Come To Personal Dealings With Others, Remember Who You Are- You Are Not Some Special Being Created In Heaven, But A Sinner Saved By Grace.

It Is A Trap To Presume That God Wants To Make Us Perfect Specimens Of What He Can Do— God’s Purpose Is To Make Us One With Himself.

We Are Not Made For The Mountains, For Sunrises, Or For The Other Beautiful Attractions In Life - Those Are Simply Intended To Be Moments Of Inspiration. We Are Made For The Valley And The Ordinary Things Of Life And That Is Where We Have To Prove Our Stamina And Strength.

We Think Of Prayer As A Preparation For Work, Or A Calm After Having Done Work, Whereas Prayer Is The Essential Work.
