If You Focus Only On Yourself And Neglect Others, You Will Lose; But You Will Gain If You Value Others As Much As You Cherish Yourself.

We Must Work To Resolve Conflicts In A Spirit Of Reconciliation And Always Keep In Mind The Interests Of Others. We Cannot Destroy Our Neighours! We Cannot Ignore Their Interests!

So The First Step In Seeking Happiness Is Learning. We First Have To Learn How Negative Emotions And Behaviors Are Harmful To Us And How Positive Emotions Are Helpful.

I Am Sometimes Sad When I Hear The Personal Stories Of Tibetan Refugees Who Have Been Tortured Or Beaten. Some Irritation, Some Anger Comes. But It Never Lasts Long. I Always Try To Think At A Deeper Level, To Find Ways To Console.

Learn And Obey The Rules Very Well So You Will Know How To Break Them Properly.

... Our Individual Well-being Is Intimately Connected Both With That Of All Others And With The Environment Within Which We Live.... When We Are Angry We Are Blind To Reality. Anger May Bring Us A Temporary Burst Of Energy, But That Energy Is Blind And It Blocks The Part Of Our Brain That Distinguishes Right From Wrong. To Deal With Our Problems, We Need To Be Practical And Realistic. If We Are To Be Realistic, We Need To Use Our Human Intelligence Properly, Which Means We Need A Calm Mind.

A Loving Atmosphere In Your Home Is The Foundation For Your Life.

When I Meet People From Other Cultures I Know That They Too Want Happiness And Do Not Want Suffering, This Allows Me To See Them As Brothers And Sisters.

Mutual Respect Is The Foundation Of Genuine Harmony.

National And Global Economies Are Subject To Many Ups And Downs, But Through Them All We Can Retain A Compassionate Attitude That Will Carry Us Through.

Peace Can Only Last Where Human Rights Are Respected, Where The People Are Fed, And Where Individuals And Nations Are Free. True Peace With Oneself And With The World Around Us Can Only Be Achieved Through The Development Of Mental Peace.

It Is Expressions Of Affection Rather Than Money And Power That Attract Real Friends.

I Met An American Lady Many Years Ago, Much Distant. Then I Told Her About My Own Difficult Experiences And I Showed Some Genuine Concern. She Responded, "why Are You So Concerned About Me?" We Need More Patience. At A Fundamental Level, We Are The Same Human Brothers And Sisters. Then Forget It. The Human Mind Is Very Strange. Like That.

Every Human Actions Becomes Dangerous When It Is Deprived Of Human Feeling. When They Are Performed With Feeling And Respect For Human Values, All Activities Become Constructive.

It Does Not Matter Whether You Are A Theist Or Atheist, What Matters Is Sincerity, Forgiveness, And Compassion.

It’s In Our Interest To Take Care Of Others. Self-centrednes S Is Opposed To Basic Human Nature. In Our Own Interest As Human Beings We Need To Pay Attention To Our Inner Values. Sometimes People Think Compassion Is Only Of Help To Others, While We Get No Benefit. This Is A Mistake. When You Concern Yourself With Others, You Naturally Develop A Sense Of Self-confidence . To Help Others Takes Courage And Inner Strength.

One Can Be Deceived By Three Types Of Laziness: Of Indolence, Which Is The Wish To Procrastinate; The Laziness Of Inferiority, Which Is Doubting Your Capabilities; And The Laziness That Is Attachment To Negative Actions, Or Putting Great Effort Into Non-virtue.

Self Satisfaction Alone Cannot Determine If A Desire Or Action Is Positive Or Negative. The Demarcation Between A Positive And A Negative Desire Or Action Is Not Whether It Gives You A Immediate Feeling Of Satisfaction, But Whether It Ultimately Results In Positive Or Negative Consequences.

If You Want To Be Wisely Selfish, Care For Others

It Is My Belief That Whereas The Twentieth Century Has Been A Century Of War And Untold Suffering, The Twenty-first Century Should Be One Of Peace And Dialogue. As The Continued Advances In Information Technology Make Our World A Truly Global Village, I Believe There Will Come A Time When War And Armed Conflict Will Be Considered An Outdated And Obsolete Method Of Settling Differences Among Nations And Communities.

One Mongolian Leader Became A Very, Very Brutal Dictator And Eventually Became A Murderer. Previously, He Was A Monk, And Then He Became A Revolutionary. Under The Influence Of His New Ideology, He Actually Killed His Own Teacher. Pol Pot's Family Background Was Buddhist. Whether He Himself Was A Buddhist At A Young Age, I Don't Know. Even Chairman Mao's Family Background Was Buddhist. So One Day, If The Dalai Lama Becomes A Mass Murderer, He Will Become The Most Deadly Of Mass Murderers.

Human Use, Population, And Technology Have Reached That Certain Stage Where Mother Earth No Longer Accepts Our Presence With Silence.

Women Have The Capacity To Lead Us To A More Peaceful World With Compassion, Affection, And Kindness.

My Religion Is Kindness. A Good Mind, A Good Heart, Warm Feelings These Are The Most Important Things.

Because We All Share This Planet Earth, We Have To Learn To Live In Harmony And Peace With Each Other And With Nature. This Is Not Just A Dream, But A Necessity.

Like Anyone Else, I Too Have The Potential For Violence; I Too Have Anger In Me. However, I Try To Recall That Anger Is A Destructive Emotion. I Remind Myself That Scientists Now Say That Anger Is Bad For Our Health; It Eats Into Our Immune System. So, Anger Destroys Our Peace Of Mind And Our Physical Health. We Shouldn’t Welcome It Or Think Of It As Natural Or As A Friend.

Anger Is The Ultimate Destroyer Of Your Own Peace Of Mind

If You Wish To Heal Your Own Sadness Or Anger, Seek To Heal The Sadness Or Anger Of Another. Those Others Are Waiting For You Now. They Are Looking To You For Guidance, For Help, For Courage, For Strength, For Understanding, And For Assurance At This Hour. Most Of All, They Are Looking To You For Love.

Because We All Share An Identical Need For Love, It Is Possible To Feel That Anybody We Meet, In Whatever Circumstances, Is A Brother Or Sister.

Do Something That Scares You Every Day. You Have Nothing To Lose But Fear Itself.

We Have Made A Great Effort To Maintain All Levels Of Buddhist Education; It Has Helped Us Have A Kind Of Renaissance, Really.

Each Of You Should Feel That You Have Great Potential And That, With Self-confidence And A Little More Effort, Change Really Is Possible If You Want It. If You Feel That Your Present Way Of Life Is Unpleasant Or Has Some Difficulties, Then Don't Look At These Negative Things. See The Positive Side, The Potential, And Make An Effort.

We Need To Find Secular Ways To Cultivate Warm-heartedness. We Need Secular Ways To Educate Ourselves About Inner Values. The Source Of A Happy Life Is Within Us. Trouble Makers In Many Parts Of The World Are Often Quite Well Educated, So It Is Not Just Education That We Need. We Need To Pay Attention To Inner Values.

The Two Most Important Things To Remember In Business Are: To Be Aware Of The Consequential Impact On Ecology, And A Caring Relationship Between Employer And Employee.

For The Moment A Lot Of Attention Is Given To Economic Concerns, And These Problems At Hand Easily Eclipse All Others. But The Remedies Proposed For These Problems All Come Out Of Outmoded Ways Of Thinking... The Remedy? Compassion. The Logical Feeling That We Find In Ourselves If We Search Deeply Enough That Has To Be Exercised Toward All Other Living Creatures.

Some People, Sweet And Attractive, And Strong And Healthy, Happen To Die Young. They Are Masters In Disguise Teaching Us About Impermanence.

The Enemy Is The Necessary Condition For Practicing Patience.

Affection Is Important Because It Counters Anger, Hatred And Suspicion That Can Prevent Our Minds From Functioning Clearly.

Anger Cannot Be Overcome By Anger. If Someone Is Angry With You, And You Show Anger In Return, The Result Is A Disaster. On The Other Hand, If You Control Your Anger And Show Its Opposite - Love, Compassion, Tolerance And Patience - Not Only Will You Remain Peaceful, But The Other Person's Anger Will Also Diminish.

All Beings Want To Live In Peace And Happiness, Undisturbed. Therefore The Concept Of Human Rights Is Universal.

Peace And Happiness

To Be Aware Of A Single Shortcoming Within Oneself Is More Useful Than To Be Aware Of A Thousand In Somebody Else. Rather Than Speaking Badly About People And In Ways That Will Produce Friction And Unrest In Their Lives, We Should Practice A Purer Perception Of Them, And When We Speak Of Others, Speak Of Their Good Qualities.

Man Surprised Me Most About Humanity.because He Sacrifices His Health In Order To Make Money. Then He Sacrifices Money To Recuperate His Health.and Then He Is So Anxious About The Future That He Does Not Enjoy The Present; The Result Being That He Does Not Live In The Present Or The Future; He Lives As If He Is Never Going To Die, And Then Dies Having Never Really Lived.

The Whole Purpose Of Religion Is To Facilitate Love And Compassion, Patience, Tolerance, Humility, And Forgiveness.

Life Is As Dear To A Mute Creature As It Is To Man. Just As One Wants Happiness And Fears Pain, Just As One Wants To Live And Not Die, So Do Other Creatures.

As Human Beings We Each Have A Responsibility To Care For Humanity. Expressing Concern For Others Brings Inner Strength And Deep Satisfaction. As Social Animals, Human Beings Need Friendship, But Friendship Doesn't Come From Wealth And Power, But From Showing Compassion And Concern For Others.

The Most Important Thing In Life Is Human Affection. Without It One Cannot Achieve Genuine Happiness. And If We Want A Happier Life, A Happier Family, Happier Neighbours Or A Happier Nation, The Key Is Inner Quality. Even If The Five Billion Human Beings That Inhabit The Earth Become Millionaires, Without Inner Development There Cannot Be Peace Or Any Lasting Happiness.

Certain Beliefs Must Accompany Every Action: One Should Act Without Selfishness, Cultivate Compassion For All Living Things, And Develop Respect For Others.

Religious Belief Is Not A Precondition Either Of Ethical Conduct Or Of Happiness.

Too Much Of A Self-centered Attitude Creates Mistrust And Suspicion In Others, Which Can In Turn Lead To Fear. But If You Have More Of An Open Mind, And You Cultivate A Sense Of Concern For Others' Well-being, Then, No Matter What Others' Attitudes Are, You Can Keep Your Inner Peace.

It Is Important That When Pursing Our Own Self-interest We Should Be 'wise Selfish' And Not 'foolish Selfish'. Being Foolish Selfish Means Pursuing Our Own Interests In A Narrow, Shortsighted Way. Being Wise Selfish Means Taking A Broader View And Recognizing That Our Own Long-term Individual Interest Lies In The Welfare Of Everyone. Being Wise Selfish Means Being Compassionate.

I Hope That At This Moment You Are Thinking Of Yourself As A Human Being Rather Than As An American, Asian, European, African, Or Member Of Any Particular Country. These Loyalties Are Secondary.

Most Real Change Is Slow. Happiness And Joy Are The Purpose Of Life. If We Know That The Future Will Be Very Dark Or Painful, Then We Lose Our Determination To Live. Therefore, Life Is Something Based On Hope.

The Three Types Of Misery Are The Misery Of Suffering, The Misery Of Change, And Pervasive Misery.

Many People And Companies Only Have One Goal: Money, Money, And More Money. Greed Is Ok When You Let Others Profit From It, But Greed For Oneself Is Bad, It Makes You Ill.

If You Practice In Accord With Your Individual Capacity, Little By Little You Will Find More Pleasure And Joy In It. As You Gain Inner Strength, Your Positive Actions Will Gain In Profundity And Scope.

When Seen From Outer Space, Our Beautiful Blue Planet Has No National Boundaries.

Self-rule Means That China Must Stop Its Intensive Effort To Colonize Tibet With Chinese Settlers And Must Allow Tibetans To Hold Responsible Positions In The Government Of Tibet.

With The Realization Of Ones Own Potential And Self-confidence In Ones Ability, One Can Build A Better World. According To My Own Experience, Self-confidence Is Very Important. That Sort Of Confidence Is Not A Blind One; It Is An Awareness Of Ones Own Potential. On That Basis, Human Beings Can Transform Themselves By Increasing The Good Qualities And Reducing The Negative Qualities.

It Is Important Not To Allow Ourselves To Be Put Off By The Magnitude Of Others' Suffering. The Misery Of Millions Is Not A Cause For Pity. Rather It Is A Cause For Compassion.

Peace And The Survival Of Life On Earth As We Know It Are Threatened By Human Activities Which Lack A Commitment To Humanitarian Values. Destruction Of Nature And Nature's Resources Result From Ignorance, Greed And Lack Of Respect For The Earth's Living Things.

A Female Dalai Lama Must Be Very Attractive, Otherwise Not Much Use.

What Is Important Is To See How We Can Best Lead A Meaningful Everyday Life, How We Can Bring About Peace And Harmony In Our Minds, How We Can Help Contribute To Society.
