If We Want To Save The World, We Must Have A Plan. But No Plan Will Work Unless We Meditate.

In Today’s Interconnected And Globalized World, It Is Now Commonplace For People Of Dissimilar World Views, Faiths And Races To Live Side By Side. It Is A Matter Of Great Urgency, Therefore, That We Find Ways To Cooperate With One Another In A Spirit Of Mutual Acceptance And Respect.

As Far As Mental Development Is Concerned, We Should Never Be Complacent. We Can Develop Our Minds Infinitely - There Is No Limitation.

With The Realization Of Ones Own Potential And Self-confidence In Ones Ability, One Can Build A Better World. According To My Own Experience, Self-confidence Is Very Important. That Sort Of Confidence Is Not A Blind One; It Is An Awareness Of Ones Own Potential. Nonviolence Is The Only Way. Even If You Achieve Your Goal By Violent Means There Are Always Side Effects, And These Can Be Worse Than The Problem. Violence Is Against Human Nature.

The Question Of World Peace, The Question Of Family Peace, The Question Of Peace Between Wife And Husband, Or Peace Between Parents And Children, Everything Is Dependent On That Feeling Of Love And Warmheartedness.

Chairman Mao Once Said That Political Power Comes From The Barrel Of A Gun. He Was Only Partly Right: Power That Comes From The Barrel Of A Gun Can Be Effective Only For A Short Time. In The End, Peoples Love For Truth, Justice, Freedom, And Democracy Will Triumph. No Matter What Governments Do, The Human Spirit Will Always Prevail.

Spend 5 Minutes Breathing In, Cherishing Yourself; And, Breathing Out Cherishing Others. If You Think About People You Have Difficulty Cherishing, Extend Your Cherishing To Them Anyway.

Looking At The Pattern Of Our Existence From Birth To Death, We Can See The Way In Which We Are Fundamentally Nurtured By Other's Affection.

Basically We Are All The Same Human Beings With The Same Potential To Be A Good Human Being Or A Bad Human Being. The Important Thing Is To Realize The Positive Side And Try To Increase That; Realize The Negative Side And Try To Reduce. That's The Way.

The Problem Isn't Materialism As Such. Rather It Is The Underlying Assumption That Full Satisfaction Can Arise From Gratifying The Senses Alone. Unlike Animals Whose Quest For Happiness Is Restricted To Survival And To The Immediate Gratification Of Sensory Desires, We Human Beings Have The Capacity To Experience Happiness At A Deeper Level Which, When Achieved, Can Overwhelm Unhappy Experiences.

The Challenge Today Is To Convince People Of The Value Of Truth, Honesty, Compassion And A Concern For Others.

Change Only Takes Place Through Action, Not Through Meditation And Prayer.

In Some Cases, Lack Of Full Knowledge Or Holistic View, That Is Also Part Of The Problem. But Mainly Lack Of Moral Principle. So Long You Have This Genuine Sort Of Concern, Well Being Of Other. That's The Foundation Of Moral Principle.

Wealth Is Not Necessarily A Bad Thing When It Has Been Earned In An Honest Manner And Neither Other Individuals Nor The Environment Suffered For It.

Anger, Hatred, Fear, Is Very Bad For Our Health

As Long As We Observe Love For Others And Respect For Their Rights And Dignity In Our Daily Lives, Then Whether We Are Learned Or Unlearned, Whether We Believe In The Buddha Or God, Follow Some Religion Or None At All, As Long As We Have Compassion For Others And Conduct Ourselves With Restraint Out Of A Sense Of Responsibility, There Is No Doubt We Will Be Happy.

From A Buddhist Point Of View, The Actual Experience Of Death Is Very Important. Although How Or Where We Will Be Reborn Is Generally Dependent On Karmic Forces, Our State Of Mind At The Time Of Death Can Influence The Quality Of Our Next Rebirth. So At The Moment Of Death, In Spite Of The Great Variety Of Karmas We Have Accumulated, If We Make A Special Effort To Generate A Virtuous State Of Mind, We May Strengthen And Activate A Virtuous Karma, And So Bring About A Happy Rebirth.

Pain Can Change You, But That Doesn't Mean It Has To Be A Bad Change. Take That Pain And Turn It Into Wisdom.

And Who Is There Among Us Who Does Not Prefer Tolerance, Respect And Forgiveness Of Our Failings To Bigotry, Disrespect, And Resentment?

My Religion Is Kindness. A Good Mind, A Good Heart, Warm Feelings These Are The Most Important Things.

We Can't Be Useful To Ourselves Unless We're Useful To Others .... Anyone Concerned Only By His Own Well-being Will Suffer Eventually. Anyone Concerned With The Well-being Of Others Takes Care Of Himself Without Even Thinking About It. Even If We Decide To Remain Selfish. Let Us Be Intelligently Selfish - Let Us Help Others.

In Order To Develop The Willpower It Takes To Sacrifice, You Must First Realize That Spending All Your Time And Energy Pursuing Material Comforts Means You Will Eventually Suffer. It's All About Positive And Negative Consequences. It's Very Important To Be Aware That There Are Long-term Consequences [for Every Action].

If You Develop A Pure And Sincere Motivation, If You Are Motivated By A Wish To Help On The Basis Of Kindness, Compassion, And Respect, Then You Can Carry On Any Kind Of Work, In Any Field, And Function More Effectively.

Constructiveness Is The Human Way.

We Can Make This A More Peaceful Century If We Cherish Non-violence And Concern For Others’ Well-being. It Is Possible. If The Individual Is Happier, His Or Her Family Is Happier; If Families Are Happy, Neighborhoods And Nations Will Be Happy. By Transforming Ourselves We Can Change Our Human Way Of Life And Make This A Century Of Compassion.

A Wider Of More Altruistic Attitude Is Very Relevant In Today's World. If We Look At The Situation From Various Angles, Such As The Complexity And Inter-connectedness Of The Nature Of Modern Existence, Then We Will Gradually Notice A Change In Our Outlook, So That When We Say 'others' And When We Think Of Others, We Will No Longer Dismiss Them As Something That Is Irrelevant To Us. We Will No Longer Feel Indifferent.

I Have Found A Much Greater Appreciation Of Buddhism Because I Couldn't Take It For Granted Here In Exile.

I Feel That The Essence Of Spiritual Practice Is Your Attitude Toward Others. When You Have A Pure, Sincere Motivation, Then You Have Right Attitude Toward Others Based On Kindness, Compassion, Love And Respect.

Passion Is What Gives Sense To Our Life.

Since Form Is Emptiness And Emptiness Is Form, Then Instead Of A Hand Grasping At Nothing, It Is Better To Grasp At Someone's Nose Because This Is Closer To Reality.

Real Change In Society Must Start From Individual Initiative.

Although Violence And The Use Of Force May Appear Powerful And Decisive, Their Benefits Are Short-lived. Violence Can Never Bring A Lasting And Long Term Resolution To Any Problem, Because It Is Unpredictable And For Every Problem It Seems To Solve, Others Are Created. On The Other Hand, Truth Remains Constant And Will Ultimately Prevail.

The Way To Overcome Negative Thoughts And Destructive Emotions Is To Develop Opposing, Positive Emotions That Are Stronger And More Powerful.

Provided That Societies Stay Mindful Of The Challenges That Capitalism Creates And Never Forget The Paramount Importance Of Inclusion And Equal Opportunity, We Can And Should Celebrate The Miracle Of Free Enterprise-and The Billions Of Souls It Has Helped Free From Desperate Poverty.

In Our Own Case, We Don't Consider The Loss Of A Monastery Or A Monument The End Of Our Entire Way Of Life. If One Monastery Is Destroyed, Sometimes It Happens.

When We Talk About Global Crisis, Or A Crisis Of Humanity, We Cannot Blame A Few Politicians, A Few Fanatics, Or A Few Troublemakers. The Whole Of Humanity Has A Responsibility Because It Is Our Business, Human Business. I Call This A Sense Of Universal Responsibility. That Is A Crucial Point.

We Humans Have Existed In Our Present Form For About A Hundred Thousand Years. I Believe That If During This Time The Human Mind Had Been Primarily Controlled By Anger And Hatred, Our Overall Population Would Have Decreased. But Today, Despite All Our Wars, We Find That The Human Population Is Greater Than Ever. This Clearly Indicates To Me That Love And Compassion Predominate In The World. And This Is Why Unpleasant Events Are "news"; Compassionate Activities Are So Much A Part Of Daily Life That They Are Taken For Granted And , Therefore, Largely Ignored.

I Try To Treat Whoever I Meet As An Old Friend. This Gives Me A Genuine Feeling Of Happiness. It Is The Practice Of Compassion.

There Are Many Different Kinds Of Power. True Power Comes From Serving And Helping Others. Such Behavior Makes People Respect You. They Are Willing To Listen To Your Views And Advice, And They Support You. The Energy Of Many People Is Thus Channeled Through One Person. This Kind Of Power Is Positive And Authentic.

Although Under Particular Circumstances, The Violence Method - Any Method - Can Be Justified, Nevertheless Once You Commit Violence, Then Counterviolence Will Be Returned.

If The Basic Human Nature Was Aggressive, We Would Have Been Born With Animal Claws & Huge Teeth -- But Ours Are Very Short, Very Pretty, Very Weak! That Means We Are Not Well Equipped To Be Aggressive Beings. Even The Size Of Our Mouth Is Very Small. So I Think The Basic Nature Of Human Beings Should Be Gentle.

We Share The Earth Not Only With Our Fellow Human Beings, But With All The Other Creatures.

His Holiness Pope John Paul Ii Was A Determined And Deeply Spiritual Minded Person For Whom I Had Great Respect And Admiration. His Experience In Poland, Then A Communist Country, And My Own Difficulties With Communists, Gave Us An Immediate Common Ground

Tibetans Must Take Full Authority And Responsibility For Developing Industry, Looking From All Different Perspectives, Taking Care Of The Environment, Conserving Resources For Long-term Economic Health, And Safeguarding The Interests Of Tibetan Workers, Nomads, And Farmers.

According To Accounts Of The Buddha's Life, It Would Seem That He Had A Very Deep Relationship With Nature. He Was Not Born In The Royal Palace But In A Park, Under A Sala Tree. He Attained Complete Enlightenment Under The Bodhi Tree And Left This Earth To Enter Parinirvana, Again, Between Three Sala Trees. It Would Seem That The Buddha Was Very Fond Of Trees.

It Seems That For Some People The Idea Of Compassion Entails A Complete Disregard For Or Even A Sacrifice Of Their Own Interests. This Is Not The Case. In Fact, You First Of All Have To Have A Wish To Be Happy Yourself - If You Don't Love Yourself Like That, How Can You Love Others?

By Developing A Sense Of Concern For Others' Well-being, Then No Matter What Others' Attitudes Are, You Can Keep Inner Peace.

Our Own Brain, Our Own Heart Is Our Temple; The Philosophy Is Kindness.

God Exists Or God Does Not Exist. Leave It For Us. Your Task Is To Learn How To Live Peacefully.

It Is Our Collective And Individual Responsibility To Preserve And Tend To The Environment In Which We All Live.

If You Can, Help Others; If You Cannot Do That, At Least Do Not Harm Them.

If You Help Others With Sincere Motivation And Sincere Concern, That Will Bring You More Fortune, More Friends, More Smiles, And More Success. If You Forget About Others' Rights And Neglect Others' Welfare, Ultimately You Will Be Very Lonely.

Universal Responsibility Is The Key To Human Survival. It Is The Best Foundation For World Peace.

Cats, Dogs, And Some I Mean, Birds, Many Species Of Mammals, They Also Have The Sort Of Potential To Show Affection Firstly Because Of The Biological Factor.

Democratic Institutions Are Necessary And Very Important, And If I Remained At The Head Of Government, It Could Be An Obstacle To Democratic Practice. Also, If I Were To Remain, Then I Would Have To Join One Of The Parties. If The Dalai Lama Joins One Party, Then That Makes It Hard For The System To Work.

China Can Keep Her Troops On The External Frontiers Of Tibet, And Tibetans Will Pledge To Accept The Appropriate Form Of Union With China.

Those Who Don't Have A Life Filled With Luxury May Have A Home Filled With Compassion, Based On Their Choice To Be Content And To Practice Self-discipline. Even When We Have Physical Hardships, We Can Be Very Happy.

Anger, Jealousy, Impatience, And Hatred Are The Real Troublemakers, With Them Problems Cannot Be Solved.

A Truly Peaceful Mind Is Very Sensitive, Very Aware.

Even Without A Religion, We Can Become A Good Human Being.

If There Is A Solution To A Problem, There Is No Need To Worry. And If There Is No Solution, There Is No Need To Worry.

Media People Should Have Long Noses Like An Elephant To Smell Out Politicians, Mayors, Prime Ministers And Businessmen. We Need To Know The Reality, The Good And The Bad, Not Just The Appearance.

It Helps Remove Whatever Fears Or Insecurities We May Have And Gives Us The Strength To Cope With Any Obstacles We Encounter. It Is The Principal Source Of Success In Life. Since We Are Not Solely Material Creatures, It Is A Mistake To Place All Our Hopes For Happiness On External Development Alone. The Key Is To Develop Inner Peace.

Nowadays The World Is Becoming Increasingly Materialistic, And Mankind Is Reaching Toward The Very Zenith Of External Progress, Driven By An Insatiable Desire For Power And Vast Possessions. Yet By This Vain Striving For Perfection In A World Where Everything Is Relative,they Wander Even Further Away From Inward Peace And Happiness Of The Mind.

My Aim Is To Create A Happy Society With Genuine Friendship. Friendship Between Tibetan And Chinese Peoples Is Very Essential.

The More We Care For The Happiness Of Others, The Greater Is Our Own Sense Of Well-being.

A Good Friend Who Points Out Mistakes And Imperfections And Rebukes Evil Is To Be Respected As If He Reveals The Secret Of Some Hidden Treasure.

For The Moment A Lot Of Attention Is Given To Economic Concerns, And These Problems At Hand Easily Eclipse All Others. But The Remedies Proposed For These Problems All Come Out Of Outmoded Ways Of Thinking... The Remedy? Compassion. The Logical Feeling That We Find In Ourselves If We Search Deeply Enough That Has To Be Exercised Toward All Other Living Creatures.

There Is A Common Perception That Compassion Is, If Not Actually An Impediment, At Least Irrelevant To Professional Life. Personally, I Would Argue That Not Only Is It Relevant, But That When Compassion Is Lacking, Our Activities Are In Danger Of Becoming Destructive. This Is Because When We Ignore The Question Of The Impact Our Actions Have On Others' Well-being, Inevitably We End Up Hurting Them.

Live A Good, Honourable Life. Then When You Get Older And Look Back, You'll Be Able To Enjoy It A Second Time.

Peace Is The Only Way For The Survival Of Humanity

Some People Get The Impression That Buddhism Talks Too Much About Suffering. In Order To Become Prosperous, A Person Must Initially Work Very Hard, So He Or She Has To Sacrifice A Lot Of Leisure Time. Similarly, The Buddhist Is Willing To Sacrifice Immediate Comfort So That He Or She Can Achieve Lasting Happiness.

The Three Types Of Misery Are The Misery Of Suffering, The Misery Of Change, And Pervasive Misery.

Spend Some Time Alone Every Day.

Logically, Harmony Must Come From The Heart... Harmony Very Much Based On Trust. As Soon As Use Force, Creates Fear. Fear And Trust Cannot Go Together.

You Must Not Hate Those Who Do Wrong Or Harmful Things; But With Compassion, You Must Do What You Can To Stop Them — For They Are Harming Themselves, As Well As Those Who Suffer From Their Actions.

The Process Of Dying Begins With The Dissolution Of The Elements Within The Body. It Has Eight Stages, Beginning With The Dissolution Of The Earth Element, Then The Water, Fire And Windelements. The Color: Appearance Of A White Vision, Increase Of The Red Element, Black Near-attainment, And Finally The Clear Light Of Death.

An Open Heart Is An Open Mind.

Genuine Happiness Consists In Those Spiritual Qualities Of Love, Compassion, Patience, Tolerance And Forgiveness And So On. For It Is These Which Provide Both For Our Happiness And Others Happiness.

All Suffering Is Caused By Ignorance. People Inflict Pain On Others In The Selfish Pursuit Of Their Happiness Or Satisfaction.

According To My Own Experience, The Highest Level Of Inner Calm Comes From The Development Of Love And Compassion. The More Concerned We Are With The Happiness Of Others, The More We Increase Our Own Well-being. Friendliness And Warmth Towards Others Allow Us To Relax And Help Us To Dispel Any Sense Of Fear Or Insecurity So We Can Overcome Whatever Obstacles We Face.

Hardship, In Forcing Us To Exercise Greater Patience And Forbearance In Daily Life, Actually Makes Us Stronger And More Robust. From The Daily Experience Of Hardship Comes A Greater Capacity To Accept Difficulties Without Losing Our Sense Of Inner Calm. Of Course, I Do Not Advocate Seeking Out Hardship As A Way Of Life, But Merely Wish To Suggest That, If You Relate To It Constructively, It Can Bring Greater Inner Strength And Fortitude.

Calm Mind Brings Inner Strength And Self-confidence, So That's Very Important For Good Health.

Sometimes We Feel That One Individual's Action Is Very Insignificant. Then We Think, Of Course, That Effects Should Come From Channeling Or From A Unifying Movement. But The Movement Of The Society, Community Or Group Of People Means Joining Individuals. Society Means A Collection Of Individuals, So That Initiative Must Come From Individuals. Unless Each Individual Develops A Sense Of Responsibility, The Whole Community Cannot Move. So Therefore, It Is Very Essential That We Should Not Feel That Individual Effort Is Meaningless- You Should Not Feel That Way. We Should Make An Effort.

Compassion Is Something We Can Count On. Even If We Face Economic Problems And Our Fortunes Decline, We Can Still Share Our Compassion With Our Fellow Human Beings. National And Global Economies Are Subject To Many Ups And Downs, But Through Them All We Can Retain A Compassionate Attitude That Will Carry Us Through.
