A Spoon Cannot Taste Of The Food It Carries. Likewise, A Foolish Man Cannot Understand The Wise Man´s Wisdom Even If He Associates With A Sage.

Peace Must First Be Developed Within An Individual. And I Believe That Love, Compassion, And Altruism Are The Fundamental Basis For Peace. Once These Qualities Are Developed Within An Individual, He Or She Is Then Able To Create An Atmosphere Of Peace And Harmony. This Atmosphere Can Be Expanded And Extended From The Individual To His Family, From The Family To The Community And Eventually To The Whole World.

The Nature Of Our Motivation Determines The Character Of Our Work.

Learning Is The First Step In Making Positive Changes Within Yourself. Other Factors Are Conviction, Determination, Action & Effort. Learning & Education Help Develop Conviction About The Need To Change & Increase Your Commitment. Conviction Then Develops Into Determination. Next, Strong Determination Leads To Action: A Sustained Effort To Implement The Changes. This Final Factor Of Effort Is Critical.

Human Happiness And Human Satisfaction Must Ultimately Come From Within Oneself. It Is Wrong To Expect Some Final Satisfaction To Come From Money Or From A Computer.

Human Beings By Nature Want Happiness And Do Not Want Suffering. With That Feeling Everyone Tries To Achieve Happiness And Tries To Get Rid Of Suffering, And Everyone Has The Basic Right To Do This. In This Way, All Here Are The Same, Whether Rich Or Poor, Educated Or Uneducated, Easterner Or Westerner, Believer Or Non-believer, And Within Believers Whether Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, And So On. Basically, From The Viewpoint Of Real Human Value We Are All The Same.

The World Will Be Saved By The Western Woman.

Ultimately, The Decision To Save The Environment Must Come From The Human Heart. The Key Point Is A Call For A Genuine Sense Of Universal Responsibility That Is Based On Love, Compassion And Clear Awareness.

I Totally Disagree With The View That The Tibet Struggle Will Die, And There Will Be No Hope For Tibet, After The Dalai Lama Passes Away.

If Scientific Analysis Were Conclusively To Demonstrate Certain Claims In Buddhism To Be False, Then We Must Accept The Findings Of Science And Abandon Those Claims.

Religion, Any Religion, No Matter What Sort Of Wonderful Religion, Never Be Universal. So Now Education Is Universal, So We Have To Sort Of Find Ways And Means Through Education System, From Kindergarten Up To University Level, To Make Awareness These Good Things, The Values, Inner Values.

My Call For A Spiritual Revolution Is Not A Call For A Religious Revolution. Nor Is It A Reference To A Way Of Life That Is Somehow Otherworldly, Still Less To Something Magical Or Mysterious. Rather It Is A Call For A Radical Reorientation Away From Our Habitual Preoccupation With Self. It Is A Call To Turn Toward The Wider Community Of Beings With Whom We Are Connected, And For Conduct Which Recognizes Others' Interests Alongside Our Own.

Treat Each Person As You Would An Old Friend.

It Is My Belief That Whereas The Twentieth Century Has Been A Century Of War And Untold Suffering, The Twenty-first Century Should Be One Of Peace And Dialogue. As The Continued Advances In Information Technology Make Our World A Truly Global Village, I Believe There Will Come A Time When War And Armed Conflict Will Be Considered An Outdated And Obsolete Method Of Settling Differences Among Nations And Communities.

My Faith Helps Me Overcome Such Negative Emotions And Find My Equilibrium.

We All Have The Potential To Show Others Love And Affection, But As We Progress In Our Materialistic World, These Values Tend To Remain Dormant. We Can Develop Them On The Basis Of Common Sense, Common Experience And Scientific Findings. The Response To The Recent Tragedy In The Philippines Is An Example Of How Such Values Are Awakened; People Helped Simply Because Others Are Suffering And In Need Of Support.

We Should Reflect On The Idea That Since The Beginning Of Time Sentient Beings Have Been Mentally Unstable Because They Have Been Slaves Of Delusion, They Lack The Eye Of Wisdom To See The Path Leading To Nirvana And Enlightenment, And They Lack The Necessary Guidance Of A Spiritual Teacher. Moment By Moment They Are Indulging In Negative Actions, Which Will Eventually Bring About Their Downfall.

People Should Not Rush To Change Religions. There Is Real Value In Finding The Spiritual Resources You Need In Your Home Religion. Even Secular Humanism Has Great Spiritual Resources; It Is Almost Like A Religion To Me.

One Can Overcome The Forces Of Negative Emotions, Like Anger And Hatred, By Cultivating Their Counter-forces, Like Love And Compassion.

It Does Not Matter Whether You Are A Theist Or Atheist, What Matters Is Sincerity, Forgiveness, And Compassion.

Under The Bright Sun, Many Of Us Are Gathered Together With Different Languages, Different Styles Of Dress, Even Different Faiths. However, All Of Us Are The Same In Being Humans, And We All Uniquely Have The Thought Of 'i' And We're All The Same In Wanting Happiness And In Wanting To Avoid Suffering.

Reincarnation Is Not An Exclusively Hindu Or Buddhist Concept, But It Is Part Of The History Of Human Origin. It Is Proof Of The Mindstream's Capacity To Retain Knowledge Of Physical And Mental Activities. It Is Related To The Theory Of Interdependent Origination And To The Law Of Cause And Effect.

The Essence Of All Religions Is Love, Compassion, And Tolerance. Kindness Is My True Religion. The Clear Proof Of A Person's Love Of God Is If That Person Genuinely Shows Love To Fellow Human Beings.

Just As We Take For Granted The Need To Acquire Proficiency In The Basic Academic Subjects, I Am Hopeful That A Time Will Come When We Can Take It For Granted That Children Will Learn, As Part Of The Curriculum, The Indispensability Of Inner Values: Love, Compassion, Justice, And Forgiveness.

All Major Religious Traditions Carry Basically The Same Message, That Is Love, Compassion And Forgiveness The Important Thing Is They Should Be Part Of Our Daily Lives.

Blessings Don’t Come From Outside, But From Within. Whatever Blessings We Receive Are The Result Of Our Own Efforts And Positive Actions.

Pain Can Change You, But That Doesn't Mean It Has To Be A Bad Change. Take That Pain And Turn It Into Wisdom.

Friends, Genuine Friends, Are Attracted By A Warm Heart, Not Money, Not Power. A Genuine Friend Considers You As Just Another Human Being, As A Brother Or Sister, And Shows Affection On That Level, Regardless Of Whether You Are Rich Or Poor, Or In A High Position; That Is A Genuine Friend.

Just Give Food Without Showing Affection, [animals] Might Not Get Sort Of 100% Satisfaction. So They Also, You See, When We Human Beings, We Show Affection, The Poor Animal Also Respond To Us.

We Are Born And Reborn Countless Number Of Times, And It Is Possible That Each Being Has Been Our Parent At One Time Or Another. Therefore, It Is Likely That All Beings In This Universe Have Familial Connections.

Today We Understand That The Future Of Humanity Very Much Depends On Our Planet, And That The Future Of The Planet Very Much Depends On Humanity.

I Believe Deeply That We Must Find, All Of Us Together, A New Spirituality.

If We See Pride Among People Who Have No Idea About Dharma, It Is Understandable. However, If Afflictive Emotions And Haughtiness Are Present Among Dharma Practitioners, It Is Great Disgrace To Practice

Calm Mind Brings Inner Strength And Self-confidence, So That's Very Important For Good Health.

If I Say, "i Am A Monk." Or "i Am A Buddhist," These Are, In Comparison To My Nature As A Human Being, Temporary. To Be Human Is Basic.

We Don’t Need More Money, We Don’t Need Greater Success Or Fame, We Don’t Need The Perfect Body Or Even The Perfect Mate-right Now, At This Very Moment, We Have A Mind, Which Is All The Basic Equipment We Need To Achieve Complete Happiness.

If We Want Spiritual Development, The Practice Of Patience Is Essential.

Since We Desire The True Happiness That Is Brought About By A Calm Mind, And Such Peace Of Mind Arises Only From Having A Compassionate Attitude, We Need To Make A Concerted Effort To Develop Compassion.

Scientists Are Discovering That While Anger And Hatred Eat Into Our Immune System, Warm-heartedness And Compassion Are Good For Our Health.

When I Talk To A Few Thousand People, I Just Feel I Am Talking To An Old Friend. Like That. I Never Felt Some Kind Of Distance, So Therefore, I Feel One Source Of Happiness. In That Kind Of Atmosphere, My Experience Seems Some Benefit To Some People.

As Free Human Beings We Can Use Our Unique Intelligence To Try To Understand Ourselves And Our World. But If We Are Prevented From Using Our Creative Potential, We Are Deprived Of One Of The Basic Characteristics Of A Human Being.

If Indeed The Qualities Such As Love, Patience, Tolerance, And Forgiveness Are What Happiness Consists In, And If It Is Also True That Compassion, Defined As Concern For Others, Is Both The Source And The Fruit Of These Qualities, Then The More We Are Compassionate, The More We Provide For Our Own Happiness.

It Is Our Collective And Individual Responsibility To Preserve And Tend To The Environment In Which We All Live.

We Are Beset By Problems And If We Look For Their Source, We Find They Arise Because Of Our Selfishness, Because We Tend To Pursue Our Own Interests At The Expense Of Others. Our Various Religious Traditions Exist To Help Us Reduce These Problems. They All Teach Ways To Overcome Suffering Through Cultivating Love And Compassion, Tolerance, Patience And Contentment.

Compassion Suits Our Physical Condition, Whereas Anger, Fear And Distrust Are Harmful To Our Well-being. Therefore, Just As We Learn The Importance Of Physical Hygiene To Physical Health, To Ensure Healthy Minds, We Need To Learn Some Kind Of Emotional Hygiene.

I Don't Know Whether The Universe, With Its Countless Galaxies, Stars And Planets, Has A Deeper Meaning Or Not, But At The Very Least, It Is Clear That We Humans Who Live On This Earth Face The Task Of Making A Happy Life For Ourselves. Therefore, It Is Important To Discover What Will Bring About The Greatest Degree Of Happiness.

There Are Two Kinds Of Happiness - The Temporary Pleasure Derived Primarily From Material Comfort Alone And Another More Enduring Comfort That Results From The Thorough Transformation And Development Of The Mind. We Can See In Our Own Lives That The Latter Form Of Happiness Is Superior Because When Our Mental State Is Calm And Happy, We Can Easily Put Up With Minor Pains And Physical Discomforts. On The Other Hand, When Our Mind Is Restless And Upset, The Most Comfortable Physical Facilities Do Not Make Us Happy.

Wisdom And Inner Peace Must Be Created By Yourself.

The Past Is Past, And The Future Is Yet To Come. That Means The Future Is In Your Hands - The Future Entirely Depends On The Present. That Realization Gives You A Great Responsibility.

If You Wonder What You Were Doing In The Past, Look At Your Body; To Know What Will Happen To You In The Future, Look At Your Mind.

When You Practice Gratefulness, There Is A Sense Of Respect Toward Others.

Different People Describe Me In A Different Ways. Some Describe Me As The Living Buddha. Nonsense. Some Describe Me As 'god-king.' Nonsense. Some Consider Me As A Demon Or A Wolf In Buddhist Robes. That Also, I Think Nonsense.

According To Accounts Of The Buddha's Life, It Would Seem That He Had A Very Deep Relationship With Nature. He Was Not Born In The Royal Palace But In A Park, Under A Sala Tree. He Attained Complete Enlightenment Under The Bodhi Tree And Left This Earth To Enter Parinirvana, Again, Between Three Sala Trees. It Would Seem That The Buddha Was Very Fond Of Trees.

We Cannot Learn Real Patience And Tolerance From A Guru Or A Friend. They Can Be Practiced Only When We Come In Contact With Someone Who Creates Unpleasant Experiences. According To Shantideva, Enemies Are Really Good For Us As We Can Learn A Lot From Them And Build Our Inner Strength.

Just As Rust, Which Arose From The Iron Itself, Wears Out The Iron, Likewise, Performing An Action Without Examination Would Destroy Us By Projecting Us Into A Negative State Of Existence.

I Have Three Commitments. Number One Commitment Is Promotion Of Human Value. Number Two Commitment Is Promotion Of Race Harmony. Number Three Commitment Is About Tibet. My Retirement Is The Third Commitment. The Previous Two Commitments, To My Death, I Have Committed.

Overcoming Negative Tendencies And Enhancing Positive Potential Are The Very Essence Of The Spiritual Path.

Friends, Genuine Friends, Have Much More To Do With Whether We Have A Warm Heart, Not Money Or Power.

Anger Is The Ultimate Troublemaker. I Feel You Can Express A Strong Disapproval Or Dislike Of An Object Without Losing Your Temper.

The Earth Is Not Just Our Environment. The Earth Is Our Mother.

Even An Animal, If You Show Genuine Affection, Gradually Trust Develops... If You Always Showing Bad Face And Beating, How Can You Develop Friendship?

Our Ancient Experience Confirms At Every Point That Everything Is Linked Together, Everything Is Inseparable.

Along With Selfishness, Anger Is One Of The Most Serious Problems Facing The World Today

Genuine Happiness Consists In Those Spiritual Qualities Of Love, Compassion, Patience, Tolerance And Forgiveness And So On. For It Is These Which Provide Both For Our Happiness And Others Happiness.

We Have Made A Great Effort To Maintain All Levels Of Buddhist Education; It Has Helped Us Have A Kind Of Renaissance, Really.

When You Think Everything Is Someone Else's Fault, You Will Suffer A Lot. When You Realize That Everything Springs Only From Yourself, You Will Learn Both Peace And Joy.

There Are Five Billion Human Beings And In A Certain Way I Think We Need Five Billion Different Religions.

Happiness Is Not Something Ready Made. It Comes From Your Own Actions.

The More You Nurture A Feeling Of Loving Kindness, The Happier And Calmer You Will Be.

Happiness Mainly Comes From Our Own Attitude, Rather Than From External Factors.

But When It Comes To Democratic Political Parties, I Prefer That Monks And Nuns Not Join Them - In Order To Ensure Proper Democratic Practice.

The Most Important Thing Is Transforming Our Minds, For A New Way Of Thinking, A New Outlook: We Should Strive To Develop A New Inner World.

Values Are Related To Our Emotions, Just As We Practice Physical Hygiene To Preserve Our Physical Health, We Need To Observe Emotional Hygiene To Preserve A Healthy Mind And Attitudes.

Self-discipline, Although Difficult, And Not Always Easy While Combating Negative Emotions, Should Be A Defensive Measure. At Least We Will Be Able To Prevent The Advent Of Negative Conduct Dominated By Negative Emotion. That Is 'shila', Or Moral Ethics. Once We Develop This By Familiarizing Ourselves With It, Along With Mindfulness And Conscientiousness, Eventually That Pattern And Way Of Life Will Become A Part Of Our Own Life.

In Our Own Case, We Don't Consider The Loss Of A Monastery Or A Monument The End Of Our Entire Way Of Life. If One Monastery Is Destroyed, Sometimes It Happens.

This Generation Has A Responsibility To Reshape The World. Start The Task Even If It Will Not Be Fulfilled In Your Lifetime. Even If It Seems Hopeless Now, Never Give Up. Offer A Positive Vision, With Enthusiasm And Joy, And An Optimistic Outlook.

I Often Tease Young People About Their Concern For How They Look; More Important Is Inner Beauty - Compassion, Affection And Respect.

We Need To Strengthen Such Inner Values As Contentment, Patience And Tolerance, As Well As Compassion For Others. Keeping In Mind That It Is Expressions Of Affection Rather Than Money And Power That Attract Real Friends, Compassion Is The Key To Ensuring Our Own Well-being.

This We Can All Bear Witness To, Living As We Do Plagued By Unremitting Anxiety . It Becomes More And More Imperative That The Life Of The Spirit Be Avowed As The Only Firm Basis Upon Which To Establish Happiness And Peace.

Compassion Automatically Brings Happiness And Calmness. Then, Even If You Receive Disturbing News, It Will Be Easier To Take, As Your Mind Is Still.

For Those Who May Not Find Happiness To Exercise Religious Faith, It's Okay To Remain A Radical Atheist; It's Absolutely An Individual Right, But The Important Thing Is With A Compassionate Heart - Then No Problem.

Forgiveness Is The Most Effective Way Of Dealing With Arguments; Altruism And Forgiveness Bring Humanity Together So That No Conflict, However Serious, Will Go Beyond The Bounds Of What Is Truly Human.

Our State Of Mind Plays A Major Role In Our Day-to-day Experiences As Well As Our Physical And Mental Well-being. If A Person Has A Calm And Stable Mind, This Influences His Or Her Attitude And Behavior In Relation To Others. In Other Words, If Someone Remains In A Peaceful And Tranquil State Of Mind, External Surroundings Can Cause Them Only A Limited Disturbance.

From Adversity We Can Learn The Value Of Patience.

The Goal Is Not To Be Better Than The Other Man, But Your Previous Self.

Is This What You Have In Mind,' I Asked The Dalai Lama, 'when You Say In Teachings That The Buddhas And Bodhisattvas Of The World Are The Most Selfish Beings Of All, That By Cultivating Altruism They Actually Achieve Ultimate Happiness For Themselves?' Yes. That's Wise Selfish,' He Replied. 'helping Others Not Means We Do This At Our Own Expense. Not Like This. Buddhas And Bodhisattvas, These People Very Wise. All Their Lives They Only Want One Thing: To Achieve Ultimate Happiness. How To Do This? By Cultivating Compassion, By Cultivating Altruism.

Neither A Space Station Nor An Enlightened Mind Can Be Realized In A Day.

The More We Feel Concern For Others And Seek Their Well-being, The More Friends We Will Have And The More Welcome We Will Feel.

We Know That To Wage A Nuclear War Today, For Example, Would Be A Form Of Suicide; Or That To Pollute The Air Or The Oceans In Order To Achieve Some Short-term Benefit Would Be To Destroy The Very Basis For Our Survival.

We Are All Here On This Planet, As It Were, As Tourists. None Of Us Can Live Here Forever. The Longest We Might Live Is A Hundred Years. So While We Are Here We Should Try To Have A Good Heart And To Make Something Positive And Useful Of Our Lives. Whether We Live Just A Few Years Or A Whole Century, It Would Be Truly Regrettable And Sad If We Were To Spend That Time Aggravating The Problems That Afflict Other People, Animals, And The Environment. The Most Important Things Is To Be A Good Human Being.

We Are All Basically The Same Human Beings, Who Seek Happiness And Try To Avoid Suffering. Everybody Is My Peer Group. Your Feeling "i Am Of No Value" Is Wrong. Absolutely Wrong.

A Loving Atmosphere In Your Home Is The Foundation For Your Life.

Up To Now My Involvement In The Tibetan Freedom Struggle Has Been Part Of My Spiritual Practice, Because The Issues Of The Survival Of The Buddha Teaching And The Freedom Of Tibet Are Very Much Related. You Have To Start Giving First And Expect Absolutely Nothing.

We Have To Have Some Form Of Politics. Politics Is A Form Of Resolving Conflicts. Politics Which Comes From Sincere Motivation Is Constructive.

The Real Troublemakers Are Anger, Jealousy, Impatience, And Hatred. With Them, Problems Cannot Be Solved. Though We May Have Temporary Success, Ultimately Our Hatred Or Anger Will Create Futher Difficulties. Anger Makes For Swift Solutions. Yet, When We Face Problems With Compassion, Sincerity, And Good Motivation, Our Solutions May Take Longer, But Ultimately They Are Better.

In Today’s Interconnected And Globalized World, It Is Now Commonplace For People Of Dissimilar World Views, Faiths And Races To Live Side By Side. It Is A Matter Of Great Urgency, Therefore, That We Find Ways To Cooperate With One Another In A Spirit Of Mutual Acceptance And Respect.

Be Gentle With The Earth.

The Only "definitive Truth" For Buddhism Is The Absolute Negation Of Any One Truth As The Definitive Truth.

Kindness Is The Key To Peace And Harmony In Family Life.

None Of Us Wants To Face Problems, And Yet We Create Them By Stressing Our Differences. If We See Each Other Just As Fellow Human Beings, There'll Be No Basis For Fighting Or Conflict Between Us.

Rulers Come And Go. It's The People Who Are The Real Rulers Of The Country.

I Believe The Ultimate Source Of Blessings Is Within Us. A Good Motivation And Honesty Bring Self-confidence , Which Attracts The Trust And Respect Of Others. Therefore The Real Source Of Blessings Is In Our Own Mind.

It’s In Our Interest To Take Care Of Others. Self-centrednes S Is Opposed To Basic Human Nature. In Our Own Interest As Human Beings We Need To Pay Attention To Our Inner Values. Sometimes People Think Compassion Is Only Of Help To Others, While We Get No Benefit. This Is A Mistake. When You Concern Yourself With Others, You Naturally Develop A Sense Of Self-confidence . To Help Others Takes Courage And Inner Strength.

The Training Of The Mind Is An Art. If This Can Be Considered Art, One's Life Is Art.

It Is Important That When Pursing Our Own Self-interest We Should Be 'wise Selfish' And Not 'foolish Selfish'. Being Foolish Selfish Means Pursuing Our Own Interests In A Narrow, Shortsighted Way. Being Wise Selfish Means Taking A Broader View And Recognizing That Our Own Long-term Individual Interest Lies In The Welfare Of Everyone. Being Wise Selfish Means Being Compassionate.

If Some People Have The Belief Or View That The Dalai Lama Has Some Miracle Power, That's Totally Nonsense.

A Heart Full Of Love And Compassion Is The Main Source Of Inner Strength, Willpower, Happiness, And Mental Tranquility

It Is Worthwhile For One To Make An Effort To Achieve Happiness. Just As The Purpose Of A Plant Is To Grow, So It Is That The Main Purpose Of Every Human Being Is To Survive And To Grow Until Death.

In Most Cases, My Visits To The West Are For Promotion Of Human Values And Religious Harmony.

If You Have Religious Faith, Very Good, You Can Add On Secular Ethics, Then Religious Belief, Add On It, Very Good. But Even Those People Who Have No Interest About Religion, Okay, It's Not Religion, But You Can Train Through Education.

Inner Peace Is The Key: If You Have Inner Peace, The External Problems Do Not Affect Your Deep Sense Of Peace And Tranquility... Without This Inner Peace, No Matter How Comfortable Your Life Is Materially, You May Still Be Worried, Disturbed Or Unhappy Because Of Circumstances.

As Human Beings We All Want To Be Happy And Free From Misery. We Have Learned That The Key To Happiness Is Inner Peace. The Greatest Obstacles To Inner Peace Are Disturbing Emotions Such As Anger And Attachment, Fear And Suspicion, While Love And Compassion, A Sense Of Universal Responsibility Are The Sources Of Peace And Happiness.

One Can Be Deceived By Three Types Of Laziness: Of Indolence, Which Is The Wish To Procrastinate; The Laziness Of Inferiority, Which Is Doubting Your Capabilities; And The Laziness That Is Attachment To Negative Actions, Or Putting Great Effort Into Non-virtue.

Who Has Magnificent Self-confidence And Fears Nothing That Exists? The Man Who Has Attained To Truth And Lives Free Of Error.

Try To Improve. Don't Expect Too Much, But Don't Feel Discouraged Either; Keep Up Your Enthusiasm; You Will Make Progress.

Buddhism Does Not Accept A Theory Of God, Or A Creator. According To Buddhism, One's Own Actions Are The Creator, Ultimately. Some People Say That, From A Certain Angle, Buddhism Is Not A Religion But Rather A Science Of Mind.

In Buddhism, Ignorance As The Root Cause Of Suffering Refers To A Fundamental Misperception Of The True Nature Of The Self And All Phenomena.

What Is The Purpose Of Life? I Believe That The Purpose Of Life Is To Be Happy.

If We Are Demoralized, Sad And Only Complain, We’ll Not Solve Our Problems. If We Only Pray For A Solution, We’ll Not Solve Our Problems. We Need To Face Them, To Deal With Them Without Violence, But With Confidence - And Never Give Up. If You Adopt A Non-violent Approach, But Are Also Hesitant Within, You’ll Not Succeed. You Have To Have Confidence And Keep Up Your Efforts - In Other Words, Never Give Up.

I Am Simply Just One Monk. That's All.

It Is Felt That A Disciplined Mind Leads To Happiness And An Undisciplined Mind Leads To Suffering, And In Fact It Is Said That Bringing About Discipline Within One's Mind Is The Essence Of The Buddha's Teaching.

Some Consider Me As A Living Buddha. That's Nonsense. That's Silly. That's Wrong. If They Consider Me A Simple Buddhist Monk, However, That's Probably Okay.

Once We Have A Firm Practice Of Compassion Our State Of Mind Becomes Stronger Which Leads To Inner Peace, Giving Rise To Self-confidence, Which Reduces Fear. This Makes For Constructive Members Of The Community. Self-centredness On The Other Hand Leads To Distance, Suspicion, Mistrust And Loneliness, With Unhappiness As The Result.

So The First Step In Seeking Happiness Is Learning. We First Have To Learn How Negative Emotions And Behaviors Are Harmful To Us And How Positive Emotions Are Helpful.

My Religion Is Kindness. A Good Mind, A Good Heart, Warm Feelings These Are The Most Important Things.

Consciousness Will Always Be Present, Though A Particular Consciousness May Cease. For Example, The Particular Tactile Consciousness That Is Present Within This Human Body Will Cease When The Body Comes To An End. Likewise, Consciousnesses That Are Influenced By Ignorance, By Anger Or By Attachment, These Too Will Cease. But The Basic, Ultimate, Innermost Subtle Consciousness Will Always Remain. It Has No Beginning, And It Will Have Not End.

True Compassion Is Not Just An Emotional Response, But A Firm Commitment Founded On Reason. Therefore, A Truly Compassionate Attitude Toward Others Does Not Change, Even If They Behave Negatively. Through Universal Altruism, You Develop A Feeling Of Responsibility For Others: The Wish To Help Them Actively Overcome Their Problems.

The Person Who Received Maximum Affection From Mother, That Person Also Sort Of Cultivated The Potential Showing Affection To Others.

Whether You Call It Buddhism Or Another Religion, Self-discipline, That's Important. Self-discipline With Awareness Of Consequences.

I Always Tell My Western Friends That It Is Best To Keep Your Own Tradition. Changing Religion Is Not Easy And Sometimes Causes Confusion. You Must Value Your Tradition And Honor Your Own Religion.

You Must Not Procrastinate. Rather, You Should Make Preparations So That Even If You Did Die Tonight, You Would Have No Regrets. If You Develop An Appreciation For The Uncertainty And Imminence Of Death, Your Sense Of The Importance Of Using Your Time Wisely Will Get Stronger And Stronger.

There Should Be A Spirit Of Dialogue. Whenever We See Any Disagreements, We Must Think How To Solve Them On The Basis Of Recognition Of Oneness Of The Entire Humanity. This Is The Modern Reality.

When We Face Problems With Compassion, Sincerity, And Good Motivation, Our Solutions May Take Longer, But Ultimately They Are Better.

Today We Face Many Problems. Some Are Created Essentially By Ourselves Based On Divisions Due To Ideology, Religion, Race, Economic Status, Or Other Factors. Therefore, The Time Has Come For Us To Think On A Deeper Level, On The Human Level, And From That Level We Should Appreciate And Respect The Sameness Of Others As Human Beings.

If We Have No Inner Peace, We Deceive Ourselves Into Thinking That Comfort And Prosperity Will Bring Happiness.

My Religion Is Kindness.

We Have A Responsibility To Look After Our Planet. It Is Our Only Home.

The Purpose Of Our Life Needs To Be Positive. We Weren't Born With The Purpose Of Causing Trouble, Harming Others. For Our Life To Be Of Value, I Think We Must Develop Basic Good Human Qualities - Warmth, Kindness, Compassion. Then Our Life Becomes Meaningful And More Peaceful - Happier.

Every Human Action, Whether It Has Become Positive Or Negative, Must Depend On Motivation.

Feelings Of Anger, Bitterness, And Hate Are Negative. If I Kept Those Inside Me, They Would Spoil My Body And My Health. The Are Of No Use.

All I Can Do Is Engage With Complete Sincerity. Then Whatever Happens, There Is No Regret.

With Realization Of One's Own Potential And Self-confidence In One's Ability, One Can Build A Better World.

If The Dalai Lama Joins One Party, Then That Makes It Hard For The System To Work.

If We Have A Positive Mental Attitude, Then Even When Surrounded By Hostility, We Shall Not Lack Inner Peace.

One Thing I Want To Make Clear, As Far As My Own Rebirth Is Concerned, The Final Authority Is Myself And No One Else, And Obviously Not China's Communists.

Don't Become A Buddhist. The World Doesn't Need Buddhist. Do Practice Compassion. The World Needs More Compassion.

It Seems That For Some People The Idea Of Compassion Entails A Complete Disregard For Or Even A Sacrifice Of Their Own Interests. This Is Not The Case. In Fact, You First Of All Have To Have A Wish To Be Happy Yourself - If You Don't Love Yourself Like That, How Can You Love Others?

One Who Is Caught In Thought Loses One's Original Nature. All He Knows Are Words And Descriptions. When He Sees The Actual Thing, He Fails To Perceive It.
